What I got wrong, and right, in my Emmy predictions

Never have I been so glad to be wrong… in just a couple of Emmy categories. I’m certainly not going to whine about not predicting such superb surprise nominations as Louie CK, Timothy Olyphant, and Walton Goggins.

Yes, I’m doing my due diligence in following up on my Emmy predictions post yesterday; I owe it to you to own up to my miscalculations… and crow about my perspicacity! READ FULL STORY

My Emmy nominee predictions in all major categories: Here's what you can expect tomorrow

The Emmy nominations will be announced tomorrow morning, and you know who’s going to do well with multiple noms? Modern Family! Mad Men! 30 Rock! Boardwalk Empire! And what shows won’t get enough of the respect they deserve? Fringe! Justified! Community! But it doesn’t take a wizard to hazard those guesses, does it? So I’m going to take a much deeper dive into speculating on just which shows will fill out the nominations in every major category. Ready? It’s a long list. I’m pretty confident about these predictions. Hold your nose and take the plunge with me. READ FULL STORY

Golden Globes TV nominations: 'The Walking Dead'! 'Boardwalk Empire'! Other surprises and disappointments!

The Golden Globes TV nominations found room for zombies and bootleggers this year, as The Walking Dead and Boardwalk Empire were among the new names on the television list. The biggest loser: Lost.

In keeping with a tradition of rewarding HBO shows, Boardwalk Empire‘s nominations included Steve Buscemi and Kelly Macdonald as well as the show itself. More surprising was the inclusion of The Walking Dead, which despite its late-in-the-year premiere and a mere half-dozen episodes managed to impress the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Other newcomers included READ FULL STORY

Here's who'll win Emmys for guest actor/actress (hint: never bet against Betty White)

These guest categories are always fun races, since they’re loaded with big names who made striking impressions in sometimes small roles. Some races this year are locks; others could result in upsets. I think I’ve figured out who’ll win. Tell me if you agree.

Christine Baranski (The Big Bang Theory)
Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives)
Kristin Chenoweth (Glee)
Tina Fey (Saturday Night Live)
Elaine Stritch (30 Rock)
Jane Lynch (Two and a Half Men)
Betty White (Saturday Night Live)

Will win Betty White. Not only READ FULL STORY

Here's who'll win the Emmy for lead and supporting actress in a comedy. Unless you have a better idea.

These two races present different challenges to anyone trying to predict a winner. I think the lead actress category is wide open (in addition to my “possible upset” pick below, I wouldn’t count out Tina Fey). On the other hand, I’ll be shocked if my choice for supporting actress READ FULL STORY

Were these the best Emmy nominations for which we could have hoped? Yes. Here's why.

Emmy nominations: Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton — yay! Tony Shalhoub and Toni Collette — I’d have preferred new jack swingers Toni! Tony! Tone!

Yes, it’s that time to grouse about some of the shows that were neglected inĀ  major categories (Fringe, Sons of Anarchy, Justified) and praise the selection of worthies that were recognized (Friday Night Lights, The Good Wife).

The thing is, this was just about the best set of Emmy nominations we could expect, a mix of READ FULL STORY
