Jimmy Kimmel presided over a mostly very funny, fairly briskly paced, and quite surprising Emmy broadcast on Sunday night. It just goes to show what a great year it was for dramas that Breaking Bad could lose in so many key categories and I’m still happy… because Homeland‘s sweep of best drama, actor, actress, and what seemed like 42 other Emmys was heartily well-deserved. And the cat-nap I took during the back-to-back, too-long acceptance speeches by Jessica Lange and Tom Berenger helped sustain my viewing energy. READ FULL STORY »

Emmy Awards: Why Sherlock Holmes and various 'girls' make this a schizo but superb nominations list

You can argue about your favorite snubs (and, sure, Community and Fringe are among mine), but if you look at the entire list of Emmy nominations, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (probably by coincidence and chance) spread a lot of love to many of the right shows and the right stars. Emmy nominations tomorrow: Do ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox have a chance against AMC, HBO, and Showtime?

Which is one reason to agitate for them, right? READ FULL STORY »
'Game of Thrones,' 'The Killing': What new shows should get Emmy nominations?
How ’bout that Game of Thrones final scene last night? How ’bout the closing-seconds revelation in The Killing last night?
Both shows are barreling toward their season finales as Emmy voters are getting ready to make their nominations, and I’m betting that these two Sunday-night series, along with HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, will be among the few first-season shows that will garner nominations in a few categories.
