The Tea Party/CNN debate: Ganging up on Rick Perry, as Kurt Cobain makes a cameo

The Tea Party Republican debate turned into a brawl pretty fast on Monday night. Well aware of the momentum that Gov. Read the full post.

A snoozefest by any other name. Nothing to see here, move along…only public figures shamelessly trying to schmooze to camera and to pander to the lowest denominator. Even the gladiator spectacle of ancient Rome displayed more life and dignity.

  • Desmo

Oh God! 4 more years of Obama.. Thanks for nothing Tea Bagging GOP!

    • jon

They hated the guy before he evven took office. Never seen the office of the presidency disrespected as much as they do with Obama. Block everything he proposes, reject all of his ideas (even the ones that Republicans came up with). Openly declare that you want him to fail. Use an entire network against him. Essentially call him anti-American even though you elected him President. Instead of support you give him hatred. It’s truly amazing that he can get anything accomplished under all this hostility and negative energy.

      • Lori

They never threw eggs at Obama’s limo when he gave his speeches. That was Bush’s limo when he came into power. Yes, you democrats have hated Bush way more than anyone in US History when it comes to this sort of politics. Who do you think you are kidding?!? You called Bush anti-american, and spent years doing exactly the same sort of political meandering b s. How is that summer of recovery doing for you guys btw? What was your plan? What was that change you were promised? Where the ___ is that change you were promised? Do you have anything good to say about your own party for a change? ha

      • Tom

Well, where to begin? I own a brand new home. Have a decent car and a great job. Finally took a decent vacation this year and expect to continue enjoying more out of my life.. And yes, will vote for Obama next year again

      • bobo

Nice try Lori, but it does not even come close to the way President Obama has and IS being treated.

      • candacetx

Who’s “they”…because no members of Congress ever threw eggs and W. But with this President, elected members of Congress openly feel free to heckle him at State of the Union addresses, call him names on social media, and refuse to show up at joint sessions of Congress when requested. I don’t remember any of that happening during any previous presidency-even when they were demonizing Clinton – it never got this bad. …And since you asked, I agree with Tom completely on all points: During the last year, I’ve started a new business, am actually hiring people, and life is going pretty well. Once that Jobs Bill gets passed, it will get better for even more Americans too. Thank you for your ‘concern’.

      • Mr. Effing Tea Party

Whoa! For a second I thought you said we hated him before the Ewoks took office and I was going to be like, “What? I don’t like it”! But come to think of it I still don’t like it!

      • Tom

You guys are completely full of ___. New house? Sure, after you walked away from your bloated morgauge and file for bankrupty and left it on the taxpayers to clean up, you good-for-nothing S.O.B___es. Liers!!!

  • Shannon

I tried watching this lunacy for entertainment value (yes, I use the term “value” looser than the nominees’ grip on reality), but I could no longer stand it after “Yeah!”s broke out in the audience in response to Wolf Blitzer question to “physician” Ron Paul about whether the government should let an uninsured man on his death bed die. Absolutely disgusting.

    • candacetx

that question was biased/stoopid, because it created a scenario where that person COULD have afforded insurance. It should have been, “what if he went to college, married, had a great job, did everything right, but was laid off and lost his insurance?” or what if he were a 9/11 first responder with overwhelming medical issues, but his job was eliminated due to budget cuts and he lost his coverage. OF COURSE, no one wants (in theory) to reward someone who could have paid for insurance and CHOSE not to…

      • Shannon

Sure, Blitzer could’ve sprung all sorts of far more sympathy-inducing scenarios on Paul, but that doesn’t excuse his very nonmedicinal answer and the horrendous response of some of his followers.

    • Mr. Effing Tea Party

I’m glad they don’t have a grip on reality! Government has no place in my reality or anybody elses! I don’t like it!

      • Shannon

Um, we caught onto your catchphrase quite early, Mr. Effing Tea Party. Heh, I’m sure you wouldn’t “like it”, but you remind me of some sort of Lemony Snicket villain.

      • Tom

        Some of you need warts.

  • JPX

What’s with EW’s coverage of this nonsense? I come to this site to read about entertainment. I have no interest in reading about the rantings of uneducated, hateful idiots (i.e. Tea Party members).

      ^ this

    • Mr. Effing Tea Party

I didn’t read your comment but I don’t like it!

      • Tom

How is that summer of recovery going for ya?? Good? I sure hope so..

  • Mary

Sounds like I didn’t miss much.

    • Tom

      Arguments about warts. That’s it.

  • joesmom

Qualifications to be in the Tea Party: Must be rude, hateful, disrespectful towards your fellow Americans. Must like donuts, wear tents for clothing, own guns, interpret the bible any way you want, and ignore anyone who has suffered an unfortunate accident or illness. Ugh, they make me ill. Why is the GOP catering to this crowd of thugs?

    • bobo

      BINGO

    • Mr. Effing Tea Party

The government needs to stop taking the middle of my doughnut away! I don’t like it!

      • Shannon

Keep looking. You might find doughnut holes to your liking, but you still probably won’t like them.

  • Valerie

Hey Jon, I think you have a short (and convenient) memory.

    • bobo

Looks you you are the one with short term memory.

  • Gigi

It was the Republican debate. Not everyone that leans Republican falls into the Tea Party category

    • Andrei

It was officially called the “Tea Party / CNN Debate”

      • Mr. Effing Tea Party

And I for one am livid that we didn’t get to debate CNN! I don’t like it!

    • joesmom

Then why do they all bow down at the Tea Party shrine? They screamed obamacare would create Death Panels, but these tea party morons actually WANT death panels! I don’t get it. I’ll vote for the first Republican who says they DON’T agree with tea!

    • Shannon

That may be true, but I can’t imagine who you’re voting for if that’s the case. It’s the Democrats that are more conservative than liberal these days. The Republican party is just a bunch of Tea Bagger wackjobs.

      • Mr. Effing Tea Party

We don’t have wackjobs anymore thanks to Obama! I don’t like it!

  • Andrei

So if they were all like models at a pageant, which one was Miss South Carolina (you know, poor children who don’t have maps…)

    • Mr. Effing Tea Party

Are you suggesting the male candidates should wear women’s clothes? IN PUBLIC?!? I don’t like it!

      • Shannon

lol, I may be the only one, but I actually like you and your rampant comedy routine. But, yes, I know. You don’t like it.

      • Mr. Effing Tea Party

        I…! Oh never mind.

  • Normalman

The cancer debate wasn’t about whether to inject or not, it was about whether Perry should have required they be injected and given the order by fiat. Maybe he was correct to want to do so but that’s not really the kind of thing someone wanting to make “government inconsequential” should be trying to do.

    • Tom

I think stupid people deserve warts. Yes, I said it. Sue me.
