Kate Plus 8 was tedious whenever it wasn’t painful. Accompanied by two helpers necessary to aid a mother who chooses to shepherd her children through two airports while wearing spike heels, Kate took the children to Sydney. There, they threw boomerangs, and watched fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Guess what? Cara had a meltdown during the fireworks.
To offset the even poorer image she accrued during her appearance on Sarah Palin’s Alaska, Kate emphasized her new-found adventurousness and good-sportiness. “I had a little redeeming to do,” she said of her Alaska livid-diva turn. “I’m in the mode of challenging myself,” Kate told the camera when she was safely back in her Pennsylvania home.
The Australia footage, however, told a different tale. Volunteering for a shark cage dive, Kate squawked that she doesn’t “like water,” and she screamed while in the cage because the water was cold (“Imagine if there were sharks,” said an Australian guide whose eyes were probably rolling behind his goggles).
It’s the usual by now: The kids are cute, what we see of them; too many scenes are chopped off just before someone starts to sob or, perhaps, throw a fit, and for that, I’m glad for the sake of the children and their future. Kate is doing her version of an over-dressed TV personality who has trouble keeping her temper under control.
“I think it was great for the kids to see my positive attitude,” said Kate, because, you know, it’s all about her. Next week, more Australia and then it’s off to New Zealand! (Coming attractions were shown of Kate crying because of “my fear of heights.”)
I don’t think I’ll keep reviewing Kate Plus 8 this season. Will you be watching it?

If the ratings dropped from 3mill to 1mill, why wasnt the show canceled? I hope this season gets 1mill (or lower) and then dsc HAS to cancel the show. Not was it just 1mill viwers able to sell ads enought to compensate the cost of a camera crew following kate overseas( bc just following kate locally in PA didnt get ratings so I beleive that is why they have her travellling).

Please, Ken, do not continue to review this show! If there is no publicity, there will be smaller audiences, and then lower ratings. hopefully they will cancel it soon, and the Gosselin children can start their therapy as soon as possible.

Have you not heard about how at least two (if not three) of her children were kicked out of school for their atrocious behavior? The kids are clearly learning the wrong things from mommy dearest.
Also, I’m not defending Jon, but no one deserved to be treated the way Kate treated him, and to his credit at least he’s trying to make an honest living now (last I heard he was doing construction).
She’s just trying to milk the show for every last penny.
Yes, raising 8 kids is difficult, but there a lot of families out there who do just that with a lot more dignity, a lot more class, and without the benefit of tv cameras and the extra money that that brings in.

Yes! I haven’t watched Kate Plus 8, but her behavior on Sarah Palin’s Alaska was atrocious. It doesn’t seem like she ever really puts their needs and happiness before her own. Come on, every parent has had to endure some activities they didn’t enjoy, but they do it because it makes the kids happy (it’s why Chuck-E-Cheese is still in business!). She just rains on their parade constantly. She’s whinier than any one of her eight children.
Kate Gosselin is a public figure. You could even argue that negative publicity is what puts food on her table. She’s done this to herself, and is now fair game.

My mother, on the other hand, did care for 8 entirely on her own (I wished I helped her more). I think that’s why she’s such a target. When people are struggling to make ends meet, how is it pleasurable to watch a woman get free trips to everywhere in the world with her kids, and then whine through it? A little humble gratitude would be good.

Google her kids and you’ll see how ‘happy’ they are. I agree that the attacks on her physical appearance are inappropriate, but her parenting and her character are unquestionably poor. There is no debating that; one need only look at her track record.

The lawsuits her children will someday file against TLC should be interesting. At what point are the network executives responsible for the childrens’ well-being? I understand that Kate’s their legal guardian, but the kids’ future lawyers won’t have much trouble arguing that the kids were exploited through a parent (see parent-aided child prostitution cases for precedent), and suffered harm as a result.

Tuned in to see Australia and this will DEFINITELY be the last time I watch! When Kate and Jon decided to have IVF to have more babies they were living on an RN and IT guy salary. When they decided to keep all 6 babies, they were living on an RN and IT guy salary.

Plenty of people support 8 kids on a normal salary! I hate that people try to excuse Kate’s behavior by saying that she wouldn’t be able to support the kids otherwise. She would be fine they just wouldn’t be living in a mansion. They wouldn’t be traveling all over the world. They would be a normal family with kids that aren’t being exploited to support their mothers lifestyle.
No offense, but all evidence to the contrary. Two of her kids were kicked out of school for bullying, hurling expletives at teachers, and other assorted misdeeds. To your point about TLC knowing what sells, I think Kate knows what sells also. It’s not a stretch to suggest that Kate is intentionally putting these kids through all this because she knows it’s good TV and she can make money off it. This is a woman who regularly referred to them as her “meal ticket” when they were first born. It’s sad, but I think she’s acutely aware that “bad mom” sells better than “loving mom” at this stage and she’s selling what people are buying, to the detriment of her kids.
Norma, she has made millions these past few years. Unless she has blown it all, she should have a nest egg which, if properly invested, could support the entire family comfortably without either a TV show or working as an RN.
And by the way, Jon is back to working at a “regular” job.
It’s not as if it was “God’s will” that she have 8 children – it was her and Jon’s choice to use science to have 8 kids. Do not have that many children if you can’t afford them!
And they could have chosen to have fewer than 6 via in vitro. It happens all the time. They already had twins – why couldn’t they be happy with 2 healthy children instead of going thru the big IV expense to put themselves in such a difficult child-raising situation?
