'Saturday Night Live' with host Zach Galifianakis: Your opinion is desired.

Zach Galifianakis is back to host Saturday Night Live this week, bringing what looks like a fresh beard. (You may recall that the last time he hosted, in March of last year, Galifianakis shaved off his trademark chin-whiskers on the air.) The musical guest is Jesse J.

Galifianakis specializes in loud non sequiturs and rolls with an improv flow. Last time he hosted, he was also adroit enough to rein himself in during various sketches. In theory, this should make him a good host, but success on SNL will, as always, depend on the writing. Call me an optimistic silly, but I’m thinking this evening will have many moments of fun.

Questions for you: Will the show try to wring more laughs out of the Charlie Sheen mess? Will serious news from Japan and elsewhere lead to awkward jokes, funny jokes, or just plain avoidance of terrible events that are still playing out? Will anyone bring up the fact that we’re losing an hour due to Daylight Savings Time and thus when the show ends at 1 a.m., it’ll be 2 a.m.?

Please let loose with your opinions and ideas below. Then come back to EW.com for my fresh, piping-hot review of the show tomorrow morning; thanks.

“Bidet” (bih-day). Totally got what you meant! Funny skit too, until it ran too long….

      • Serenity is one of the Greatest movies this century

agree, it ran a little too long, should have made a Firefly skit instead.

    • Tom

I sure miss the good old days when this show was actually funny, and had funny comedians. These guys suck so bad. OMG!

      • jd

The cast is awesome, so talented.
This season is probably one of the best in many years.

    • Pat

I wished these guys were half as funny as they look.

    • Sally

My opinion is Zack. This show stinks.

      • Lindy

You’re not kidding. Of ALL the people in the entire world, SNL chooses this guy AGAIN! peeyew

    • Sally

      Boring.

  • Enter 77

    i’m so jazzed

    • Pat

      I’m so not!

  • Marion

I’m excited for people to finally discover Jessie J. She has a unique way of singing.

    • Kris

Me too! I became a fan of her last year and I told people, “by this time next year EVERYONE will know who that girl is” looks like I might have been right.

      • brett

Amen. I can’t wait for her to blow up. I actually won a contest to meet her and cant wait for that even more.*

*just a little gloating on my part.

      • robert ot

english trash.i give her 1 more year of fame then folk will tire of her over the top “singing”

    • Color Me Impressed

I think they either need to bring on Jeff Magnum, Paul Westerberg or Sufjan Stevens. Any of those 3 would put on an exceptional show!

      • Color Me Impressed

I mean as musical guests. Sorry should’ve clarified.

      • Rustinnnnnnn

Jeff Mangum, and considering he rarely plays live anymore, that will never happen,

      • Color Me Impressed

Oh thanks for pointing out the spelling error, I must’ve missed it. And I know, he isn’t really that musically active anymore, but I can still dream right? A friend of mine saw him in a really small venue a few years back, just him and an acoustic guitar, and he played almost all of Aeroplane Over the Sea. I would’ve killed to see that. It’s actually on my list of “shows I’m going to see when they invent time travel”, right after Zeppelin in ’72, The Beatles rooftop concert, The Strokes “Room On Fire” tour with supporting acts Kings of Leon and Regina Spektor, and one of The Replacements’ better shows in the Hootenany/Let It Be era.

      • Sterling

Jeff Mangum announced he’ll be performing a solo tour later this year.

    • Trolly McTrollerson

Who is Jessie J and what does her daddy do?

      • Steven

How was the joke even funny? I don’t get it.

      • Color Me Impressed

@Steven: He’s making fun of all the Kardashian/Hilton starlets who become famous because their fathers have lots of money.

    • Nancy

The only thing I could stand watching from this show was from two years when you brought back whats-her-face to do Sarah Palin impressions. Now that was certainly funny stuff. These new guys stink! Fire them all and start fresh with people who are actually really funny.

    • Javadude54

I hope whoever did the sound last week isn’t doing it tonight. That was perhaps the worst job of sound mixing during a musical performance I’ve ever heard.

    • Steven

It’s really time they start to find some new talent, and definitely maybe some new writers.. This show has gone downhill. The scottish late night guy is way more funny than SNL is today.

    • K

How is she in any way unique?

  • Cris

His first hosting gig was pretty good. I’m hoping for a good show.

  • Mike

“I need it to breath and such.” That was one of the funnier promos I’ve seen. They should hire Zach to be on the show permanently.

    • Lindy

      No thank you.

  • shawn

I’m hoping for a reprise of Pageant Talk with Gene Shimp and Wanda Gayle Shimp. I thought that was hysterical the last time around.

    • Justin K

hahaha I hope they do Pageant Talk- I loved it- had me dying laughing!

      GIMME BACK MY NOSE!

  • Patrick

If there isn’t a major Kristen Wiig sketch tonight, I am going to give up on SNL. For each person who complains about Wiig, there are two people who watch the show only because she’s on it. Bring back a classic character, please!

    • Kris

TARGET LADY! Where the hell is the Target Lady? LOVE her!

      • NO. NO LOL

        I hope your joking.

      • OL

        I meant to say YOU’RE. You’re welcome Grammar Nazi’s

      • kay

        did you mean Nazis?

      • Fog cue

Ha ha, OL used an apostrophe inappropriately, that dumb ho!

    • Dana

      this is a joke, right.

    • Kevin

My buggest complaint with the show lately is that she has pretty much dissapeared. We have only seen here in a few minor parts in sketches or after 12:30. She needs to be in more…

  • Trixie

I adore him, and will be tuning in.

  • mawhi

    galifablacklist

  • LOL

Hoping for a good show. No Japan jokes. Nothing funny about it. Still could get in a few Sheen jokes before that well runs dry.

    • NO. NO LOL

Nothing funny about Charlie Sheen, in my opinion.

    • Rolo Tomasi

      That well is bone dry

    • Thomas

This show hasn’t been funny for years. These dogs you got writing for them are terrible.

  • Rolo Tomasi

A little tired of Zach’s routine. It gets old after awhile.

    • LOL

Jesse J is looking pretty hot.

    • jul

      Aye.

    • creamrage

Agree with Rolo. Zach G. is a one note bore.

    • Pat

He is gruesomely unfunny. I have never laughed even once at anything he has ever done. I’m serious! This show sucks.

      • Lindy

        What’s on another channel?

  • MrFord

I’m a big Galifianakis fan, so I think at the very least he’ll be entertaining. But hey, it’s gotta be better than last week’s Cyrus mess.

    • shawn

I don’t know what you are talking about man. This guy has never been funny. You have to either be very stoned, or high to enjoy him.

      • Lindy

        Ditto!

      • G.U.

Speak for yourself. I was neither and thought the opening monologue was pretty funny.

    • Carrie

I think Zach is hilarious! He will make it great even if the writing is so-so. I agree also that Miley Cyrus was aweful!

  • Kevin

His opening monolouge last time was great. I hope this time it’s just as good…

    • Sally

      Boring as hell.

  • Allie

I don’t mean to be picky, but daylight savings time technically doesn’t start until 2am, so when the show ends at 1 it will still be 1 am.

    • squishmar

I thought the same thing. Ken seems to have trouble getting things right lately.

  • ichorwhip

Excluding and completely ignoring the ones who find it unfashionable to laugh at SNL these days, I’d say that a lot depends on the host and even bad writing can be overcome with someone who knows how to lead and yet be part of the team. They got a good jolt from Jim Carrey weeks back an as example. That show had some energy. Jeff Bridges show wasn’t awful either. I don’t think Zach has the charisma to host a la Alec Baldwin or Steve Martin etcetera, but I could be wrong. Everybody just expects him to be an occasionally funny a$$hole, and it’s a fair bet.
