Miley Cyrus hosts Saturday Night Live this week; the Strokes will be the music guest. Given that cast member Vanessa Bayer has done a Cyrus impersonation a number of times, I think we can predict at least one sketch.
Alright, I’m taking bets: Do you think the show’s cold open will, for once, forsake politics and be a Charlie Sheen satire? Or will SNL combine the unrest in Libya with the unrest in Sheen’s mind for a combo sketch?
In general, what topics do you think SNL will address? And will this show be, as Cyrus/Bayer says, pretty cool?
Sound off below, please; thanks.
Then come back to EW.com early Sunday morning for a piping hot, fresh review of the show.

I love her. She’s really talented.
I’m not a fan, but I will say these Disney kids do well on SNL, at least holding their own. Timberlake, Spears (for real), and Aquillera were all good hosts and were able to be funny. Go back and watch any of their episodes if you want to see solid to excellent SNL shows.
Her singing ability is terrible and annoying.
She should be fine, she’s used to a weekly show, what will be the issue is the writers giving her something to work with.
My tiger blood is ready for a pretty cool SNL!
You dont even use it on a right term.
The Strokes?! Hello, 2002. Couldn’t they find a hipster rock band from 2011?
They just released a CD
Why would I want to listen to any band whose audience is marginally attractive white people with pale, doughy skin?
Excuse me dumbass, i love the strokes and i am black.
jjj, I think the band Fog cue is talking about is squareone’s “hipster rock band from 2011″ and not The Strokes.
Are you insinuating that a band from 2002 is too geezer-rockish for your tastes? I’d hate to see your reaction if they had the Rolling Stones on SNL!
I think his point is not that The Strokes are too old, just that they are already past their prime.
I have to agree. A lotes of bands from Strokes’ generation got bad really fast.
It’s not that they aren’t good in anyway too, it’s just that they don’t amaze or surprise anyone anymore.
As a hipster I have to say, Rolling Stones are timeless, The Strokes are not.
First rule of being a hipster: deny you’re a hipster.
Exactly my point. The Strokes had exactly one (1) good album, that came out at just the right time. But as good as the album was, they were overrated. I have no problem with old bands who are timeless (aka The Stones, U2, et al). I just feel like the Strokes are no longer relevant.
Correction: The Strokes have one great album, one good album, and one decent/mediocre album.
Hello 2002? Unmistakable sound and Julian Casablancas is one of the best rock front men around. If you think they’re a cookie cutter rock band you thought wrong. Strokes fans have been waiting five years for them to come back. Quite a feat that they weren’t just forgotten about which would have happened to a lot of bands who go on hiatus that long.
The Strokes are one the top bands without them none of the hipster bands would be around right now they opened the door and everyone else just followed along but they are the saviors of rock and after five years THEY”RE BACK
No they couldn’t as they all seem to suck donkey balls these days. The music world desperately needs The Strokes!
Calling The Strokes a 2002 band is like saying Radiohead hasn’t made music since “Creep.” You’re showing your ignorance. Just because your iPod is full of Katy Perry doesn’t mean many of us won’t be excited to see The Strokes on SNL.
@UNCGirl – Comparing Radiohead to the Strokes?! Really?!? The difference is that the Strokes put out one great album, and 3 albums after that were progressively worse, each one sounding like a recycled version of the last one. Radiohead does something new and fresh every single time.
@Color Me Impressed – “Greatest rock bands of our time” ?!? Wow, we must have some pretty mediocre rock bands right now if they’re one of the greatest.
@squareone: I’ll admit, the Strokes aren’t quite as chameleonesque as Radiohead, but if you listen to their sound on Is This It and Room on Fire, and then listen to First Impressions of Earth and Angles, you will realize that they have progressed and experimented a considerable amount. Now I’m absolutely a Radiohead fan (Ok Computer is amazing, The Bends is pretty good, Kid A is good but overrated, and In Rainbows is refreshing, I haven’t heard anything else of theirs), but I like The Strokes better for one reason: They’re not afraid to have fun! They consistently write one good, high energy, gritty yet intelligent and emotionally genuine song after another, and hey, isn’t that what Rock n’ Roll is all about?!
@squareone: And yes, there are a lot of mediocre rock bands around today, but The Strokes are doing their best to make sure that rock n’ roll stays alive. However, the genre is, sadly, declining. The only rock albums this past year that were actually any good are Arcade Fire-The Suburbs, Titus Andronicus-The Monitor, Gaslight Anthem-American Slang, Brandon Flowers-Flamingo, Cloud Cult-Light Chasers & Neil Young-Le Noise. Although these albums and great enough to keep rock n’ roll on life-support, thank God, when you compare it to some past great years for rock music (67, 72, 84, 87, 91) thats pretty d*mn sad.
Sh*t I pressed Post Comment and I wasn’t finished, I’m a spaz! Anyway, my point: rock is in need of a savior, so thank God for Julian and The Strokes!
Ou guys just gotta take a step back and see how far the strokes have come, sure they seem like nothing but when you look at it, they’re amazing..they have the balls to experiment with different sounds and still sound like themselfs…they haven’t passed their prime, their refreshing it..no matter what you say, the strokes ARE timeless
@Color Me Impressed. Excellent points. Although, I’m going to give savior of rock n’ roll title to Jack White.
@squareonenyc: Also a valid choice, White is an extremely close #2 in my book.
Ummm really? The Strokes are one of the greatest rock bands of our time!
You, and anyone who disses the strokes, are stupid. all their albums are great i love em and this new one thats coming out sounds different from their other ones but so far still great and i cant wait for it to come out. so yeah you are lame how dare you hate on the strokes >:(
i am not a fan of her music but i think her acting is good and i hope for a digital short tonight.
Horseface Miley should wear a paper bag over her head throughout the show. That’s the only way ugly Miley will get a good laugh. Hide the Horseface. Vive la Quebec!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i usually don’t agree with the French, but this goof is right on
I second that.
FYI….he’s not French…he’s Canadian. Big difference!
Eh … Quebecois !
EW is the smartest entertainment magazine I’ve read. So why do you stoop to prompting discussion of Saturday Night Live every single week?
Discussion of it begins and ends with, “All That” was better. No need to pretend the guests will have an effect on the horrific television broadcast.
I’m not a hater, please don’t mistake me for one…I just don’t think she’s a very good comedic actress, so I’m wondering how funny it’ll manage to be. But I’m still going to watch. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be surprised.
I actually think she’ll be pretty good. I hope the writing is good this week and that there is lots of bill hader.
Sheen in Libya, “winning!!!”, taking no prisoners, is a great idea. I hope the mostly lame SNL writers come up with something like that. Miley does a great Lucy. How about Lucy and Ricky as tourists caught in Libya?
Hells yeah! He’s a Navy Seal, a Wolverine, a Hot Shot! A crime-fighting Charlie Sheen could be the next Pootie Tang!
excited for the Strokes. They’re the more underrated once over hyped band ever. For the good of music and unholy Beiber they need to kick a toe into the mainstream.
I’d love to see Miley sing with the Strokes…probably not gonna happen, but it would be a great second song!
I think the majority of people dont want to see that.
No, no one wants to see that I’m sad their names are being said in the same sentence
I agree. I can’t believe I have to sit through a half hour of her to see my beloved Strokes.
I can’t believe I had to wait five years an now I have to sit through Miley
Please God, do not let Miley ruin a Strokes song.
That would definitely NOT be “pretty cool”
Oh my god. Why would you want Miley to sing with the Strokes? Strokes fans everywhere would go crazy with rage.
Horrible idea, im sorry..but my best friend is like the greatest strokes fan (she calls herself) and she would blow up on you if she heard you day that
I know they usually pair up the guest host with a regular cast member for these promos, but you’re telling me they couldn’t let Vanessa Beyer do it to tease the inevitable “Miley Cyrus Show” skit?
Remote control…using it to find something else or to shut off the TV at 1030PM Central Time….
Ken Tucker’s SNL Previews: A headline without “Your opinion is desired” is desired.
I agree. Thought I was the only one…
It’s usually the hosts I have the least hope for that turn out to do well. Taylor Swift was a pleasant surprise when she hosted, so I’m hoping Miley will be good as well. I’m crossing my fingers that they do something with Charlie Sheen and Hot Shots! where he goes into Libya to take out Quadaffi.
