Russell Brand will host Saturday Night Live tonight. The musical guest is Chris Brown. Given Brand’s penchant for naughty ad-libbing, this could be one of the more spontaneous Lives in a while.
The biggest question regarding Brand on SNL is whether he can play anything other than variations on Russell Brand — he hasn’t shown much inclination to do so in his movies. The smaller question is whether his wife, pop goddess Katy Perry, will put in a cameo.
Beyond Brand, what subjects do you think SNL will address this week? The changes in Egypt, to be sure. After that, I leave it to you to post your comments and suggestions below.
Then come back to EW.com tomorrow morning for a fresh, piping-hot review of the show; thanks.

Not necessarily for tonight’s show, but… Have you noticed that SNL hasn’t depicted Sarah Palin in two years? Do they really think that no one but Tina Fey can play her? Three actors played George Bush after Will Ferrell left (not as memorably, but still…); I would hate to think that they’re laying off such a public and polarizing figure just because one actress isn’t there to play her.
Sarah Palin is increasingly becoming irrelevant. Why would SNL bother wasting time on her?
Yes, besides her many many appearances in the media, up to and including the cross hairs controversy, we haven’t heard a peep from her
Sarah is not irrelevant, she is the new leader of the liberal left in America.. taking over the role from GW Bush. Clearly without someone to hate, the left feels lost to find positive. messages.
If MSNBC didn’t have Fox News and Palin to talk about, they would have to cover the real news.
I expext Walberg to be very funny, especially a d1ck in the box segment with Timberland. I expect the Obama skit to be the funniest of the night and then I heard there will be something about the Egypt facebook thing. SNL is BACK!!!
exactly
Sandi, the exact same thing could be said about people on the right; without their hatred of liberals what would they really have to say. Well they could stand for NO SOCIALISM – which if they’re serious would mean, by the way, no worker’s compensation, no social security, no retirement benefits, no college scholarships, no limit on hours in the workday, no supervision of working conditions, no mandatory food inspections, the list goes on; did you know that before “socialists” pressed for meat inspections in the early 20th century, thousands of people in the U.S. died routinely every year from tainted meat? and there were no recalls then (gov’t mandated recalls are also “socialist” – away with them!)
That’s the right’s “positive message,” dressed up with a lot of pretty talk about liberty and common sense and Ronald Reagan.
But in any case, our entire political culture is in horrible shape and getting worse.
Bad decision to have Chris Brown on the show.
No kidding, no idea how that even happened. Hope he gets his little chipmunk face booed off tonight.
I disagree. Chris is the only reason I am watching SNL tonight.
It’s too soon after the Rhianna thing…
get over it it was two years ago! will you guys let this go!
Are you serious? Attn: To all those who want to bash on CB. People do deserve a chance in life despite the mistakes that have made. I guess you are just so perfect and you have never made a mistake and ask for forgiveness. Don’t judge, it’s an ugly trait.
Who are you to say this about when he can perform. The boy did a bad thing. We should not put him down, he is young and can become a good man.
Renee probably thinks O.J. was just misunderstood.
The thing is he didn’t just hit her a few times, he beat the hell out of her. Watch the reenactment on YouTube. It’s scary how easily he could have killed her. And he never even gave a decent apology. He isn’t Kanye West. What he did is unforgivable in my eyes. Sorry to go off topic. Can’t wait to see Russell Brand.
SNL should have gotten Duran Duran instead! They have a new album to plug! It’s about time they bring ‘real’ music to this show!!
Know what’s an ugly trait? Beating the crap out of your girlfriend.
Russell Brand was wonderful. I’ve never seen him much, thinking he was just another crazy guy. I was impressed. Plus, he’s not bad looking with the different wigs. I looked him up on IMDb and he has some good quotes and philosophies.
Short, sweet, to the point, FREE-exactly as ifnoramtoin should be!
Love this guy!
is he promoting something? usually people host snl when they have something coming out. Does he?
Has the sure to be inferior remake of Arthur coming out in april. Surprised he isn’t hosting a little closer to the release date.
cant stand this guy and will not watch
I have to agree. Even though he was sort of ok in “Sarah Marshall” (or whatever that movie was) perhaps because he was toned down somewhat, I generally do not find him amusing in the slightest starting from the forst MTV movie awards that he hosted… Just not funny and wont be watching
bob2 I agree with you although I could see myself out in LDN with Brand Geravis and Dave Williams snogging slappers…
Don’t watch. You don’t matter.
I like your comment.
Seriously, I HATE Russell Brand! He and his girl Katy Perry are both awful!!!
If the material sucks like usual i hope he ad libs!more interesting will be if Chris Brown can pull off a good performance.
double YUCK….cant stand either one of these guys….maybe this will be the death blow to SNL…i hope
Is it just me or does Jason look chunkier?
maybe he’s pregnant.
Nah, it’s just his time of the month and he’s a little bloated.
I can’t wait to see Chris Brown perform. It’s going to be the best and most interesting SNL ever! I hope CB is accepted by all. He’s really talented.
Chris is soooooo talented!!! Maybe they can do an old-school Ike and Tina sketch and Chris can play Ike!
Making fun of domestic violence is definitely NOT funny!
Anyway, can’t wait to see Chris! That’s the only reason why I’m watching!
oh Keesha- get a life. that was hilarious. I hope they reference Chris Brown’s temper somehow.
@ Keesha: you give him crap for making fun of domestic violence, yet you’re excited for chris brown? Hyprocrite much?
How is being excited to see Chris Brown PERFORM a song on stage hypocritical? None of his music talks about using domestic violence against women.
I hope SNL clowns Chris (even if he agrees to it). He hasn’t been served up since he beat up Rihanna.
It’s been months since it happened. It’s not exactly topical anymore and the court system even commended him for his behavior. Rhianna has also asked to drop the TRO, so why exactly should they “serve up” on something that happened two years ago?
I agree!
Oops! That comment was in response to SandeePB! I NEVER agree with negativity!
Its so nice that you dont agree with negativity, but you’re human, so you aren’t perfect and contribute to someone’s bad day somewhere, whether you think so or not. It could be being late for work, or even talking during class when a teacher is trying to teach, but either way, those are still negative things, in Chris’ case however, well, its on a much larger scale, and if one agrees to go on SNL, there is a no holds barred agreement. Lets be honest, when Chris agreed to appear on the show as a musical guest, I’m sure the writers all thought it was like an extra holiday thrown on the calendar!!
And I am sure you’re some Chris fan who thinks there’s nothing wrong with how he lives his life, but us adults in the real world know 2 things. 1. IF SNL DOESN’T let Chris have it tonight, then they will be torn apart tomorrow in the reviews of the show (thats just how it is) as being soft. 2. When will they get another chance to get a scapegoat they’ve been waiting for years to turn out?
i agree too!
what channel is it on?
I’m not a huge fan of Russel Brand, but I’ve got to admit that I’m looking forward to this. He seems like a real live wire who’ll be more than willing to break from the script and improvise where he needs to.
I like Russell. I think it will be a interesting show. Especially with Chris Brown as the Entertainment. I don’t usually watch SNL.But, I will tonight. I adore CHris Brown he is my favorite Artist. Thanks SNL From the Fans. Go Teambrezzy!
Russell Brand — SNL — Yeah, bring it!
this will be the first SNL I actually watch in a long time. love me some Russell Brand.
Relax – Brand is funny as Brand. Tell me how many different characters the Marx Brothers played?
You relax “eventguy” and try to come up with a reference that is more current than 1930.
The guy is an unfunny freak, if him doing well in the States means he’ll be on my screen less, I’m all for it. So please please please keep him on that side of the pond
I semi-love Russell Brand. I can see his comedic chops but I always feel he’s just about to go way too far. It should be a good show. And I was especially glad to see it isn’t his talentless wife as a musical(ha) guest. But then I see it’s Chris Brown. Yeah, yeah, forgive and all that, did his time. But I’m a court of public opinion, not a court of law and I’ve been the recipient of the punches so I have no forgiveness for those that commited that kind of actions, male or female.
Can’t Wait to See Russell Tonight, He’s So Funny, So Quick On His Thoughts, I Just Dearly Love Him!
Chris Brown is awful, but Russell Brand should be pretty good.
