Best episode in years!
Sorry. Just wasn’t. : (
SNL has been on a nice little run since the Jim Carrey episode. This was another good one but I didn’t find it to be as strong as the last few. Highlights were Wayne’s World and The Roommate. Lowlights were the firing lady and the celebrity hotline, good impressions but no jokes.
loved wanyes world
also loved that they used the original intro with phil hartmans voice
Poor Phil Hartman. I miss him.
Me too. He’s one of those people (John Candy is another) whose deaths, when remembered, have the same impact as when they happened.
It was great to see Dana Carvey again…not the best show ever, but better than most.
ditto
We get it. The EW reviewer doesn’t like recurring characters and recurring skits. Seeing as though that’s half of what SNL does, can we get a reviewer who can actually stand them to do the write up? What’s the point of reading this every week to hear complaints about how unimpressed you are by recurring characters?
Right on.
sir, If the sky is cloudy then the ssneor could not senses the sun movement. If we have to make the motor to move on time based then the motor can rotate the solar panel automaticallyand we can utilize the solar energy efficiently
I haven’t watched SNL in awhile, but I tuned in specifically to see DC host. I wasn’t disappointed. The Wayne’s World opening was hilarious. I also laughed at Church Chat, and I can’t stand JB. The James Franco impersonation during Weekend Update was clever and well-done. Overall, I was very happy that I watched.
Disagree on your take re: the Regis skit. The minute Kristen Wiig trotted out as Kathie Lee, I said to my husband, “Crap, this one’s going to start sucking more. ” Kristen Wiig is so overused that none of her recurring roles even have a prayer of.being funny again. It’s sad, as just a few short years ago she was great. Too much of a good thing, SNL. Sometimes less is more.
Hahah.. Was waiting for a Kristen Wiig is awful comment. They show up on these recaps even when she isn’t even on. She was hardly on last night and in most of the skits she was in, she was playing secondary character. You and the other Wiig haters need to get over yourselves. You sound like children.
Kristen, we know it’s u! Your phony “Mikey” handle isnt fooling anybody! get off this board!!!
Wiig was the only good thing about the Regis sketch.

What about Fred Armesian’s Ice-T? That was what overshadowed Carvey’s Rooney, not Bill Hader’s Alda.
Ice-T was by far my favorite impression of that sketch!
I liked the Ice-T one as well and the Anna Farris impression.
Anna Farris was dead on.
Yes! He was right on in that one! Fred Armisen is probably one of the biggest talents in the current group of SNL players. The other three are Seth Meyers, Bobby Moynihan and Keenan Thompson.
How about a well written Waynes World 3?
Do not encourage Mike Myers to pick up a pen, not just yet. Love Guru still lingers.
i love dana carvey and also agree this was better than any skits in a very looong time. the weak scenes were the ones without him…did anyone see when he appeared on jimmy fallon a couple of nights ago and he acted out 3 rejected ideas for SNL? those were HILARIOUS! i don’t get why snl rejected them..they were original and funny and i wonder who has the final say….
I thought it was so much fun to see the old cast members. I didn’t think his timing was off. It seemed to me that they probably threw Mike Myers out at the end, it didn’t look like he was unhappy to me. Good show.
Sorry completely disagree, the only funny sketches involved Carvey. Funniest its been in years, and the Church Lady was spot on, and the funniest thing of the night
i agree…carvey is great. Church lady was great. That one and Waynes world were the best.
The Beauty Pageant sketch was just awful and much too long. SNL is at its best when it just satirizes. I did enjoy, however, Fred Armisen’s take on Ice-T though at this point anyone can do a pretty decent Eddie Murphy impression (Sorry Jay Pharoah).
It was nice for me to see Carvey’s old skits get an update. I personally thought Wayne’s World and Church Lady were still funny and all the cameos were a nice touch. The first half of the show was actually very, very funny- and then after Weekend Update it went downhill fast. Nothing after that was funny. Oh well- one half of a good show is a decent accomplishment. Side note: Did anyone else notice that poor Abby Elliott always gets stuck playing really ditzy characters (Kim Kardashian, Anna Faris, the crisis management lady in that awful late skit)?
I didn’t notice the Myers/Lovitz frostiness at the end, because I was too busy giggling at the guy from Linkin Park giving a curt “man nod” to Justin Bieber. Two worlds colliding there.
I think Myers was embarrassed that he’s fallen so far over the past few years. Even Tarantino couldn’t save his career.
The show was very nostalgic in the first half and feel flat in the second half. I would love for the real Kardashian sisters to go toe to toe with their SNL alter egos. I love Wayne’s World, but it felt kinda dated instead of timeless. Overall..good show…not great, but good.
