I too shake my head and wonder why these journalists feel the need to put themselves in the middle of these situations. In this day and age there is enough information available in an instant without having to have Anderson Cooper, or Bob Woodruff on the ground in harms way. But if they choose to go, then they shouldn’t complain when something happens to them. The only other thing I have to say is that I think it is in really poor taste that the writer of this article took shots at the networks for airing their regular “entertainment” this morning while the cable channels covered the breaking news from Egypt. I, for one, don’t want to have this conflict shoved down my throat by every channel all day. I know where I can go to get updates and unless something other than riots in the street is happening we don’t need to have 24/7 coverage on every channel. It is terrible what is happening, I had family over there just myself last week, but that doesn’t mean I have to immerse myself in it all day every day.
It is their job and mandate to show us the story first hand. Brave journalist have made this world a better place for centuries. Anderson Cooper does a very important service for our country. The idea that on-the-ground journalism is no longer necessary is ridiculously ignorant.
I am praying that they will be able to form a democracy. One not ruled by religious fanatics but by humanists and good leaders and one where women will have rights.
Where is this place you speak of???
Frankly amazed this hasn’t happened before. I remember seeing Anderson back on Channel One in high school and we all joked about how he was always the one they sent to every war zone.
Anderson Cooper has propensity for dangerous situations.
My favorite part is the powers that be in the U.S. calling for this and calling for that….really? That guy in the middle of the street with a slingshot picking off camels doesn’t care what John Kerry thinks. I always wonder, if this happened in the U.S….oh wait it wouldn’t because they would’ve dropped a bomb then blamed the devistation on a hurricane. God Bless America
hey dude, you dropped your tin foil hat
Best news I heard all day. AC can now sue CNN for putting him in a dangerous situation or not providing him adequate security if it was his choice to be on the ground. MSM always goes for the story, regardless of their reporters’ safety.
Anderson Cooper isn’t going anywhere he doesn’t want to go. And there is no way he and his crew can do their jobs with a security team surrounding them.
I’m sorry that this happened, but Anderson Cooper does not strike me as an empathetic person, but maybe I am wrong, and he is trying his best to be a professional, and mask pain.
Funny that the LA Times ran an article yesterday speculating that this would hurt Egypt’s tourism for a few years. You think? After this, maybe a few DECADES!
His vehicle was attacked again today, and the latest news is that a Fox News team has been beaten by Mubarak’s thugs and some Fox reporters. Mubarak’s thugs don’t care about the ideology of Western journalists, they just don’t want the news about what is happening in Egypt to get out.
Funny how we quickly pick up the media’s language… Mubarak’s “thugs”.
Interesting.
Oops, I meant to say some Fox News reporters had to be hospitalized for serious injuries.
I loved the episode.Great story, funny and interesting. Grissom as always oblivious to everything besides bugs, and Sara beautiful and stronger than ever. Very funny moments, Brass’s awkward, Hodges’ramblings and Catherine patronizing Sara. The best part was the ending, I almost cried!LOL
Dear Mr. Cooper:
You are such a brave man, but we need you to report and be safe!!!!I grew up in Tripoli, Libya, 50 some years ago and even as a child, I knew from all around me how things overseas can get out of hand very quickly. Please be safe and I am glad you are coming home. Thank you for all you do keeping the media honest!!!!!
If anyone had to get beat up I’m glad it was him
Here’s why I don’t like or watch Anderson Cooper.
1) He is college educated, hailing from a college family, yet he says “uh” & “um” about 10 times per sentence. He sounds like Carson Daly, not a professional journalist.
2) I resent the fashion show that is his wardrobe–both in studio and on location. (Ali Velshi is guilty of this as well). How exactly am I supposed to identify with and trust you in $5000 suits, $800 eyeglass frames, $200 t-shirts along with $500 “jeans”? It’s bad enough as it is that Ali Velshi CLEARLY is biased against poor people, but he insists on wearing, more often than not, the classic banker/wallstreet pinstripe suit. But, I digress.
The 3rd reason I won’t watch (and can’t really respect) Anderson Cooper, is that he is quite obviously a gay man, a gay man with tremendous world-wide presence. He should just come out already, while he’s still attractive and “interesting” enough to care.
CNN as a whole has become nothing more than pretty, lip-stained haircuts that follow audio and visual cues that amount to nothing more than “supposing” about the “news” with a variety of pundits and paid experts. And even though a world of news happens every minute of every day, rest assured that the ratings-grabber gas exlosion story is ALL EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM HOST ON THE CHANNEL WILL COVER FOR 2 DAYS.
Sad.
This introduces a pealinsgly rational point of view.
