First of all, thanks once again to Ricky Gervais for bringing the sort of funny rudeness and effrontery — or as Robert Downey, Jr. Read the full post.

I don’t even know what Gervais is famous for (some British TV show, apparently?) but I didn’t enjoy him at all? There’s funny, and then there’s just…desperate. I hear he used to be heavier — maybe he was just hungry? I enjoyed everything about the awards except him. Nastiness doesn’t entertain me.
I like Gervais a lot, but didn’t enjoy him much last night, found him disappointing. It seemed as if his entire mission was to shock and offend, instead of being funny – he just seemed mean. There’s something patronizing about how Ricky thinks insulting both the nominees, presenters and the group giving the awards(!) makes him a good show host. Shooting fish in a barrel is not too entertaining.
Ricky Gervais was mean, only infrequently funny and undermined the show.
One of the best moments was Christian Bale’s acknowledgment of “quieter” performances as opposed to loud acting. He was spot on, particularly if we apply it to comedy, where over-the-top acting is usually rewarded (Jim Parsons, for instance).
i love Steve Buscemi and Jon Hamm, but it bothers me that Buscemi won and that critics think Hamm should’ve won, the whole time overlooking Michael C. Hall and Bryan Cranston, both of which I feel are more deserving. Michael C. Hall’s Dexter was a much different Dexter this year and although some people think it was a weaker season, (I do not), his performance was one of the top two performances of the year, second only to Bryan Cranston’s Walt..he is a revelation and as the superb central figure in what I consider to be Breaking Bad’s best season yet, he deserved this year’s award.
The HFPA president made a very revealing comment when he said Gervais couldn’t count on him for help with a movie. Since when is it a legitimate journalist’s role to promote a movie? Journalism isn’t the same as public relations, nor should it be.
I am astounded at some people’s commments on here. There are some really sensitive souls on here. I would pay to see your reaction if Frankie Boyle had hosted the show.
Horst Angelkotter – your comment is pathetic.
Gervais’ comments were highly amusing – good for him. There’s a bunch of cry babies in Hollywood.
Congratulations Ken! Here in Europe everyone has been so amused with Ricky ´s performance at the Golden Globe Awards. You ´ve been one of the few brave and open minded enought to realize that it was really funny. Americans take themselves too seriously, hahahahah
Jon Hamm was robbed and Ricky Gervais was hilarious.
