'Saturday Night Live' with Gwyneth Paltrow as host: Your opinion is desired.

Gwyneth Paltrow hosts Saturday Night Live this week; the musical guest is Cee Lo Green. Writing as an admirer of Paltrow and her performance in her latest film, Country Strong, I have high hopes for the evening. Here’s the promo, with Paltrow, Green, and Jason Sudeikis:

What sorts of sketches do you think SNL should write for Paltrow? What current events do you think the show will address this week?

And what are the chances that Paltrow will duet with Green on the inevitable “F— You”?

Please sound off with your opinions below. Then come back tomorrow morning, for a piping-hot, fresh review of the show.

Love Gwyneth and will watch for sure…she is beautiful and talented and actually really funny!

I rarely watch SNL because it isn’t consistently funny but I will watch Gwyneth Paltrow in anything. I know this comments section will be full of negative comments about her because people feel she comes off as snobby but I think she is just beautiful, intelligent, funny, and a really great and underrated actress so I thought maybe I could start a chain of positive comments instead of negative ones.

      • Frank

I don’t watch Gwyneth Paltrow because she isn’t consistently talented.

      • C

I totally agree with you. I don’t usually watch SNL but I will tonight because Gwyneth is so funny and talented that I know it will be really good. I honestly can’t see why people hate her so much. It’s getting ridiculous.

I’m surprised she is supressing her hatred and disdain of all things American (we are so uncultured and self-serving) enough to do an American TV show.
Oh, wait…she does have a new film and Oscar campaign in place, she still needs to court those nasty Americans’ dollars and good graces. *sarcasm*
Did anyone see the last newsletter on her GOOP website? A reader asked her how she manages to juggle a successful career with being a mom and Gwynne, bless her pretentious soul, talked about herself as a “busy mom” and how this past november she did the amazing feat of surviving a red carpet outing, a dress fitting, a grueling workout AND taking her kids to school. Wow. She is amazing. Take that, underpaid, overworked minimum wage working moms of America. Now Paltrow truly has it hard…what with an army of nannies, cooks, personal assistants and yes people, and a multi-millionaire rock star husband, I bet her working-mom life is exhausting…

Gwyneth Paltrow is so talented, so funny, that she will lift up SNL and make this episode so consistently funny that we will watch both GP and SNL again and again. She’s so consistently talented that SNL should have her be the permanent host(ess)and she could challenge both Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin for most hosts.

Ugh! Ken Tucker actually liked that piece of crap Country Strong? He should be fired.

  • Wendy

Can’t wait for Cee-Lo :) Fav. song of last year for sure :)

  • Dana

    has she hosted before

    • Meg

Yes, several years ago. This is her second performance (I believe the first was around “Shakespeare In Love,” but I may be wrong).

      • ad

yeah she was good then i love the skit with mary kathrine gallager

      • Shh

This is her third time actually. I enjoyed her hosting both times :)

    • Penny

this is her THIRD time hosting. bravoTV even had a behind-the-scenes special on SNL with her as the host several years ago.

      • Meg

        Oops. I stand corrected.
        .
Also never realized Cee-Lo’s stature before. That was surprising.

  • Garry

Her publicists and managers are doing a great job shoving this insufferable, pretentious b*tch down our throats.

Hey, Ken Tucker, no need to get caught up in all of this Paltrow frenzy. Didn’t you have a column about her earlier this week? Isn’t there anyone else you can write about?

    • Ken Tucker

No, I didn’t have a column about her earlier this week.

    • Tye-Grr

I love Gwyneth. Clearly not as much as you, Garry. ;)

    • Javabooknut

Owen Glieberman wrote that post and it was fair and true. People that don’t like her are jealous because she’s had advantages in life and is married to a rock star. I think she is a great actress and seems like a great person.

    • Jay Singer

Garry, you are an incredible dork who knows nothing about publicist or managers but least of all about what’s so hot about GP. You are insufferable and pretentious and I know that Dan and Chevy and Jane would agree if they knew you had made such lame remarks. If you don’t like SNL turn the channel to the “A-hole Net” where you’ll find programs suitable for you.

  • Dan

I haven’t watched SNL in years. Watching people standing on a set reading cue cards to each other is not my idea of entertainment.

    • Joesph

You make a good point. Not having watched it in years you aren’t really at liberty to critique it’s entertainment value. You are the one that is keeping two and a half men on the air aren’t you?

      • Don

        Great point, Joesph haha

      • Dan

First you say I make a good point, then you say I’m not really at liberty to offer my opinion? You’re a bit of an idiot, aren’t you?

  • James

Hard to have an opinion on something that has not aired, but EW seems to be on a Paltrow bender as this is the second “Paltrow is the best thing since sliced bread” post from writers here in a week. What is going on?

    • Lisa Simpson

Seriously. These giddy, fan-girl pre-show blog posts are pretty useless.

    • Hal

I believe they do a SNL pre-plug every week. I don’t think this is specifically a “Paltrow is the best thing since sliced bread” post.

      • anonymous

The whole concept of EW is to bring the viewer breaking news on TV shows, movies, music, and books. Your worthless argument is outlandish.

  • KSG

SNL will probably be like it is every week–a laugh or two but mostly boring. But I’m sure all the critics will praise her endlessly like they always do. blah, blah, blah…..The media seems to be waaaaaay more into Gwyneth than the public is.

  • Mikami

She was great the last time that I remember she was on. Looking forward to it. “So STOP dropping bombs onto the whales, you dirty dirty bums
Just because they’re fat, doesn’t mean they’re dumb.
    Leave the whales alone!”

    • Tom

      hahaha awesome memory!

  • Will

I predict this will go down like. Blake Livelys eph

    • Ash

      Which was awesome

  • Rusty Shackelford

Saving Private Ryan got robbed by Shakespeare in Love.

  • pats

I’m wondering if Cee Lo will sing the original lyrics of his hit F*** You. I’ll watch just to see if it happens.

  • rory

I record SNL, and then fast-forward through everything except, the opening sketch, weekend update, and andy sandberg’s digital shorts. Gwyneth is attractive, but that is it.

  • Eloise

SNL is not good enough to watch live unless they have exciting musical talent like The Black Keys and Eminem. I would watch for Ceelo, but I don’t doubt that Fishsticks would insert herself somehow into the performance. Therefore, I’ll wait for the online clip the next day.

  • becks

not sure where everyone got the idea GP was a snob but i’ve always thought she’s done good work especially lately

    • googliezoo

I think it’s because she is so obviously intelligent. Most young, female entertainers are either dumber than a box of rocks or are at least pretending to be so. I don’t know when being smart started to be a negative thing…..you’re elitist, pretentious and snobby if you’re educated. I don’t know why so many share that opinion, but I find it disturbing.

      • spence

read her bio…never graduated. does she look intelligent to you. i guess u can be intelligent even if u quit school.

  • jenny

Dan, you are right about the abundance of cue cards reading by the cast and the hosts. Anne Hathaway really impressed me when she hosted because she rarely looked at the cue cards and she actually looked at the actors.

    • Dan

Yeah, but Anne Hathaway spends most of her new film having sex on camera, so I don’t have much respect for her, either.

      • anonymous

Dan, you are hopelessly delusional. Besides Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal, what other films are you talking about ?
