Jim Carrey is hosting Saturday Night Live this week, with music act The Black Keys. Carrey’s go-for-broke physical comedy is always an asset on SNL, where sketches are sometimes saved by the performers’ reactions as much as by the punchlines.
Carrey is promoting his movie I Love You Phillip Morris, a “smaller” film than, say, True Grit. (Hey, I wouldn’t mind seeing Carrey do his version of Rooster Cogburn, an opportunity Jeff Bridges passed up a few weeks ago.)
Oh, and The Black Keys? I’m a fan:
So what sketches are you hoping SNL comes up with for Carrey? In the political-comedy area, I suspect we’ll be in for some John-Boehner-cries-too-much jokes. Any other guesses?
Please weigh in below. Then come back early tomorrow morning for a piping-hot, fresh review of the episode.

I’ve gotten tired of Jim Carrey, but I’m very much looking forward to the Black Keys. They are just starting to bubble under the mainstream’s consciousness, and SNL could be just the thing to help them break through.
“They are just starting to bubble under the mainstream’s consciousness, and SNL could be just the thing to help them break through.” Sarcasm, right?
Jim Carrey is a babykiller! His crusade against vaccines directly caused dozens of babies to die of whooping cough and measles in the last few years. He is a monster and here you are celebrating him. Shame on EW and his unthinking fans!
Way to start my Sunday morning… Take it to another forum. You have way too much rage for an SNL critique of Jim Carrey.
A ‘Roxy’ sequel with a surprise Will F. cameo would be fun and unexpected.
The Black Keys should be good.
High hopes for this show.
Sean … How can you get tired of a person ? He hasn’t even been on the radar lately. In that case, I have gotten tired of you.
Carrey? Sa-Da-Tay!
sem-a-tow
If there was one actor whose celebrity I could undo it would be Jim Carrey. He was never funny. I wish he’d just go away.
Yeah, he always plays weird characters. I think I’ll pass on this week’s SNL. A couple beers and off to bed. Man, I’m exhausted….
Didn’t you guys ever watch MAD TV ? The weider, the better.
Wow! Great tihnkign! JK
Well, I’ll concede that a lot (all?) of his movies have been sorely lacking, but his stand-up and interviews are almost always stellar, so I’m expecting this ep to be one of the season’s best.
Wow! That’s a really neat asnwre!
There will probably be a sketch poking fun at college football as SNL got some members of the Columbia football team in Manhattan to film a sketch this week.
That homeless man with the golden voice is a hot topic.
Jim Carrey’s become too self righteous.
Hey guys, he’s been through alot of stuff lately and he has earned his place in stardom. The world (except you ppl) luvs him, and he is funny…and actually a great person so don’t knock what U don’t know. U could only dream of being him!!!
whatevs … How santimonious of you. I am glad they are not shared by the majority of viewers.
Get ready America for the next great rock band!!!
Okay, let me guess — Jim’s maniac energy saves about one or two skits that have a bit of edge to them, but the rest is incredibly awkward and boring, and the Black Keys bring the house down, because they are AMAZING live. I hope the ratings are good tonight because I love seeing the Keys gain more and more attention.
Sounds about right.
Not a fan of Jim Carrey at this point. I won’t be watching him.
I’m actually more excited about The Black Keys. I’m so glad they’re finally getting some time in the spotlight! It’s about six albums overdue.
let me know when SNL gets new writers….the host can only do so much.
Bingo
!00% right.
True-true….writing is not funny at all!
SNL has long since been surpassed by Mr. Show, Human Giant, Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, and Funny or Die for quality sketch comedy. While last night’s episode was better than most, thanks to better than usual writing and Jim Carrey (who’s better suited to sketch comedy than most of their hosts), the show has gone downhill over the years. It’s time for NBC to blow up the show and let someone with fresher perspective than Lorne Michaels have the time slot.
The Black Keys. Brilliant.
This is perfect for jim, right where he started with sketch comedy. Should be interesting, I’ll watch. Everyone just has to be so deep and negative.
they really need to kill this show already it hasnt been remotly funny in years the writing is unbearably bad its just time to end it. at this point its just running on the fact that its snl and that someday it will be back to its glory days which is really just like the simpsons. a once brillant comedy show that also should of ended a long time ago like say 1999 that being said i will check out the black keys because they are a amazing band
I’ve been a fan of The Black Keys for years now. So excited to see them on SNL tonight! They will be the highlight of the show, by far, especially considering the night’s host. TBK rock!
Wait, are you saying that because you think Jim Carrey sucks as a host? Man you’re on crack.
