How much are the tickets? Insurance costs alone per week must be $100,000 or so. Might be a good show but it’ll take at least 2.5 years for it to recoup its investment. Will it live that long?
I believe I heard that it would have to sell out every performance for the first two years to make it a financial success, and as much as I respect Julie Taymor, this does not look like it’s going to be the same quality as shows like ‘Wicked’ and ‘Jersey Boys’, the only two shows that DO consistently sell out.
wtf with those ads?
I was skeptical at first, but 60 Minutes may have sold me on this musical. Visually it looks pretty rad.
I have seats in the 3rd row Orchestra for April. After seeing the story, I realize that I should have gotten seats in the mezzanine in order to check out the flying sequences better!
With all the problems this show seemed to be having I thought it would be terrible, and I’m still dubious about the whole thing but the music at least sounds really good. I hope it’s actually pretty good!
What a waste of time. This looks ridiculous and sounds worse.
I’m surprised to say it looks pretty exciting, and I like the music so far. Though I think I might need to see it soon, because unless it really takes off, it probably can’t afford to stay around very long.
Considering the reports of problems the show experienced last night (they stopped 5 times for “technical issues,” ended Act I early with Spiderman dangling above the audience and audience members stood up and shouted insults during the 2nd act), it will die the death it deserves. I can’t imagine a dumber idea for a musical, and I actually saw “Carrie.”
I can’t wait! If Ms Taymore is working her same magic as she did with Lion King it wil at the least be visually wonderful. I’ll wait a few months for them to get teh kinks out. The sampling of Bono tunes seemed to be a treat as well. I wish them luck. $65 million is a big gamble.
I hope it’s an epic hit and runs for 20 years. People that work that hard deserve all the success in the world.
I don’t know how so many people have opinions about whether it’s a flop or not when the show hasn’t had its opening night yet. I’m a regular theater goer, so I’ll be there. I hope it does well.
“Beauty and the Beast” was one of the best theater experiences I ever had. The entire production and music was A+. I would like to see the new SpiderMan show but they have to work out some very serious kinks. The first night had many problems but don’t give up on Taymor.
Beautiful and Handsome and DateaChristianGuy was Great!
3 minutes worth of commercials inbedded in the video – really!?! And it’s the same commercial three times?
