I agree. I think tbs has some technical things to adjust to perfect the art form that is a talk show featuring conan. But conans back, and despite a show that may have lacked the luster we all expected, I’m glad to see my favorite host at home again.

Good luck Conan, and Congrats on the new show. We all love you.

So good to see Conan again! It was the first show but to me it didn’t felt like it, and you could see he was happy to be back doing his thing. The beginning was really funny, and the show itself was great. Overall I think the true fans enjoyed it, I did!

I thought it was a great show, just like the old late night show. Seems like the writer of this horrendous summary/ article is a Leno buddy or just a bad “writer”.

lols, 2nd whoever asked if this reviewer is a professional writer. The only thing more unbelievable would be if he claimed to be a professional comedy critic.

I loved it, Conan’s fresh, willing to make himself the butt of jokes, and has worn the legacy of leaving The Tonight Show very well. I expect to laugh more and more as this show keeps going, and I hope that Conan has great success and is able to keep us laughing!

I thought Conan was awesome. Cause he is.

The first show was hilarious! I’m so happy to finally have Conan back on TV. I’M WITH COCO!

I loved Conan being back. He is one of the few late night shows I have enjoyed since Carson left.

that song with jack white was puzzling. was that supposed to be funny? maybe at a wedding after 5 drinks I’d maybe like it. the whole thing felt like the end of a 36 hr. telethon. brace yourself; conan’s in trouble. i’m worried about the guy. something’s not right here.

It was two friends playing a rockabilly song together. It was fantastic!

from a Last Call With Carson Daly (2002).
Conan O’Brien: “I remember when I was really interested in comedy and I was in high school, Alan Thicke had a talk show, and they had all these posters up everywhere like, ‘He’s coming, it’s gonna be better than Johnny Carson’ … and I watched his first show, and it was like, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, here he comes, Alan Thicke,’ and the doors opened, and he came running out, and the band’s rocking out, and he runs down to the band and he picks up a guitar and he starts rocking out with the band, and I was sitting there and I was 14 and I’m like, ‘You’re an ass.’ Click. I always knew that as a lesson, that [guitar playing] is my hobby, and I don’t like it when celebrities inflict their hobby [on the audience] … It’s one of those things that I’m very careful not to do.”

  • As I See It

The show was underwhelming and predictably over hyped. Hopefully the NBC blasting is out of his system and Conan will move on now. If he doesn’t I see another disaster in the making. Then again the ratings numbers don’t need to be that high on basic cable. He probably will soon lose the $30,000 per 30 second ad rate very soon.

It’s about time he is back on TV….I would have liked him to recreate the exact set that he had on The Tonight Show. Might have been too much. lol. The set did leave me thinking, “This is it?” Good show not great but the only people on late night watching with real talent is Letterman, Ferguson, and finally CONAN! Kimmel is good – Fallon – well he must know someone because he is talentless and a joke. I won’t even bring up Leno. Welcome back Conan – you got me for the long hall brotha!

  • ABM

Never though he was that great to began with, evidenced by that fact NBC didn’t move him back to his original time slot.

    • sashay

Conan didn’t WANT to go back to his old time slot, why should he? And anyone who holds up NBC management as making intelligent decisions is strongly deluded.

I watch it in Canada at 12am, never did watch his show before however i have seen the other guys probably once in my lifetime (cant find more distate than what i have for letterman ~.~ ), Conan’s show wasn’t bad, i think it was ok, a bit rushed but ok, i have seen momments when Stewart lacks but thats normal and it was the same here, the best part is I can watch Stewart Colbert and Conan in a row :) !

Really, the funniest moment was the use of one of O’Brien’s old stand-bys, the Masturbating Bear, who was wedged into a taped bit in which lottery balls were pulled from his, um, sack.>>>

Really? I actually found that to be quite forgettable, actually. We all knew he’d continue the self-deprecating yet martyr-esque jokes, kind of expected for the comeback, but I felt they were well timed and fairly sharp. Now, if it continues for a week, then we have some problems. But for a first show, I felt it was pretty solid. Sort of feel like the overall opinion of this review was awkwardly decided pre-show.

    • sashay

It would DEFINITELY be a problem if the bear masturbated for an entire week….

  • BIG_STONE

It’s a first show. What’s he supposed to do – not address all the crap that’s happened? The first show has to establish some things. The rhythm will pick up in the next few shows. And the set looked cheap? People are so displeased with every little thing. The set looked fine. And for the record, the “gunned down” bit happened at the beginning and end of the opening bit – twice – not “repeated-three-times.” If you’re going to shit on something, at least get it right. The show was fine, and it will only get better from here.
