Conan O'Brien online 'Show Zero' review: Gee, that was fast...

On Monday night, Conan O’Brien went online with a “Show Zero” — a supposed preview of what his new TBS talk show will be like when it premieres on Nov. 8. O’Brien said that things on the Internet have to “move fast,” so he was using, YouTube, and Facebook to present “the fastest talk show ever.”

Deploying only Andy Richter and one member of his house band (Jerry Vivino), performing from a conference room, O’Brien told a single monologue joke. The show lasted four minutes, 51 seconds. Jim Parsons appeared as O’Brien’s sole guest, and said nary a word. The band Steel Train played a single chord. Richter plugged Diet Coke.

It was a delightful put-on. Looking forward to Nov. 8.

Did you watch?

Eh… kind of a let down… I spent a while trying to get the PS3 to hook into the computer for something that lasted almost as long as the commercial… I am really looking forward to the show, but I think they could have done more with it.

Well, what he is doing, is mocking us. Just teasing us.

Can’t wait for the new show!

    CONAN is a comic genius.

  • LOL

I’m with Coco, but that was a let down. Too short.

      That’s what his wife said.

  • Amanda Kiwinerd

    It was stupid. Screw Conan.

Made it through 3:41 and then shut it off. Here’s my problem with Conan … his humor is often more about the aesthetic than actually being funny. The idea of a five-minute talk show with one monologue joke, one chord, etc. … is funny enough in concept, I suppose, but pretty boring in execution. That’s my Conan problem in a nut shell.

    • LOL

Even though I disagree, I appreciate your reasoning. Instead of just typing “Conan is not funny” like some do, you explained your choice. I wish more posters were this good.

What I don’t understand about anyone who either hates something or just doesn’t like what is said or done by someone then why comment on it? If “MUSIC” is dissatified about Conan and what he says or does or with even any celeb, don’t post your comments, save the space for others who want to give their thoughts!!! Have a good day!! :)

Lack of constructive criticism results in isolation and groupthink. Unless your opinions are unable to withstand the merest hint of contradiction, one should always welcome constructive criticism.

What I don’t understand about anyone who doesn’t like a comment by sommeone then why comment on it? If “tvfan” is dissatified about Music’s comment, don’t post your comments, save the space for others who want to give their thoughts!!! Have a good day!!

        …oh wait…

      • Music

Thanks, LOL. To the draconian TVFan … I’m actually a Conan fan in general, albeit a lukewarm one. My apologies if I offended you with my opinion. I will henceforth limit my responses to, “Conan RULZ!!!!”

  • lenny

Music, why did you watch then? Also you might have a problem with attention deficit disorder if you can find something boring in 4 minutes.

  • lenny

I thought it was very funny, it was very much something only Conan or Letterman would do.

  • Ryan O’Brien

    Parsons said a few words

  • Diana

Of course I was waiting for more… but then again Conan O’Brien surprises us by breaking the mold of the expected. I’m still laughing.

  • Phil

If Conan O’Brien had a technical problem and wasn’t able to do a “Show Zero” at all, Ken Tucker would still have claimed it was comic genius. I am not convinced Ken Tucker ever actually watches anything he reviews, I think he just pastes together recaps and comments. How else can you explain his constant errors and oversights?

    • ash

I agree 100%. His writing has been sloppy and he often misses obvious details and occasionally calls actors or characters by the wrong names.

  • Melody

I watched it, I loved it. I’m eagerly awaiting the 8th.

Why would you pay someone that kind of money when he is not funny. Nothing about this guy is funny. The commercials they put out for him aren’t funny. I;m maybe thinking they better fire the IDIOT who signed him to a new contract. Conan you are not funny, and your improv is really bad, save your money, your gonna need it when they run you off that network also.

    • LOL

      What a choad.
