'Glee': It's not that it's gotten bad, it's just that it can do anything it wants... over and over and over...

When Glee premiered, I was a big supporter of the show — it struck me as fresh, innovative, funny, and occasionally touching. Read the full post.

Ken, you are very spot-on with this article. Glee is losing its way. And I think it may be because the writers/producers may have gotten cocky, thinking there is no way they could ever make a sub-par episode. The only thing I disagree with Ken about is that, even in its first season, Glee was not great. It was good and very entertaining. But it was highly overpraised.

I would agree with Ken Tucker except that I strongly disagree with two of the points he makes. I thought the Brittany Spears episode was terrible, and the Grilled Cheesus episode was absolutely amazing. I was really starting to lose faith in Glee until that ep aired.

The themes nights need to go.

nice to see someone else mention Modern Family as a total second season dud. the last few eps of last season and the premiere were so dull I stopped watching it. Glee’s still got some snap.

I agree–Modern family is as overrated as Glee, in my opinion.

I feel like this criticism was valid for pretty much every episode after 1.13. After the initial 13 episodes the show started to go down hill–it seemed to have no dramatic direction and just wasn’t very funny. I haven’t even tuned in this season, but it sounds like more of the same.

Yep, Glee has become the Lady Gaga of television land — overrated and preachy. I DVR it and spin thru to see if any of the musical numbers are fun/interesting. Usually there’s just one, or two.

Ken stop writing about not likin glee…jus enjoy it for what it is. What you should be writing about is Sons of Anarchy. I’m sorely disappointed that no one is re-capping this show and after reading ur review after the first episode I thought you would be. So what glee for the music but save your review for something else. Merci !

Glee is an overrated piece of tripe that will overstay past it’s experation date.

Every show feels different at some point. People complain either way- if the show changes or if it doesn’t change at all and keeps repeating itself.
I haven’t complained this season. Maybe it’s because I watch it Wednesdays on Hulu while chatting with my cousin who is watching it simultaneously and we can comment and laugh together. Who knows, but I’d still rather watch this than a reality show or another CSI/ L&O. ;)

It’s a great show and I love it. Stop the overanalyzing. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. But you are watching it, aren’t you? Because you’re writing about it, and that’s all the show needs, the viewers. It’s a great variety of music and addresses a great variety of topics that no two people will ever agree on. Those of us that love it will watch; those of you who don’t, just change the channel. How simple is that?

I fell in love with Glee after the first episode. I will continue to watch it for these reasons: I love watching the amazing talent of the actors and the show makes me laugh and smile.

I agree with Ken. However, tonight’s episode was surprisingly good, the best so far this season.

I really liked that the “Grilled Cheesus” episode was tolerant of all faiths, and especially atheists, as that’s how I identify myself. I guess Ken was hoping for some anti-insert-your-religion-here jokes and bigotry?

It’s a tv show. Some people (okay, lots of people according to the ratings) are gonna love it, some people are not. If you don’t enjoy the show, don’t watch it? I watch Glee for one of the many reasons i enjoy television…because it gives me an experience that is relaxing at the end of the long day. I guess we need critics…but being so overly critical takes the enjoyment out of that relaxation time.

I completely agree. I loved glee in its first season. However, this second season has made me really disgusted. It is often unnecessarily and overtly sexualized, and the clever and funny storylines that occurred in season one are nonexistent. What happened?

  • Bob

By tortured by a Glee cover of a Billy Joel Song, you mean it didn’t live up to the original, right?

  • Dan

you’re judging the show on 4 episodes. not really a fair thing to do is it now ken? If you’re including the Rocky Horror episode, remember it’s a Halloween episode. LOTS of shows do a Halloween episode. You can’t knock GLEE for jumping on the bandwagon of doing a holiday themed episode. It’s funny how you’re saying the show has “lost its way” when episode 2 was the highest rated episode EVER of GLEE. You can’t really pass judgment on a show from a season premiere either. Give me a good half a season of GLEE and then write an article like this Ken. After four episodes, it really doesn’t serve any purpose.
