I was waiting for someone to write this article..So very true.
no new show has really caught me this yr. I have stuck with my favorites from last year and years past. Otherwise, I am turning more and more to cable- Bravo, Dexter.
I agree with Ken…but I think part of the problem is some of these shows need more time to grow. You sometimes can’t tell from a pilot if it’s something you will love or not. Networks cancel shows too quickly.
Agree! That’s why I will not invest in ABC ever again! Each time I do, they cancel it!!!
I’m watching $@*! My Dad Says strictly for William Shatner. The guy who plays his son is terrible at delivering lines, the brother and his wife aren’t that funny and the writing is rather lame. But I love Bill, so I’ll keep watching it.
New shows I’ve tried to watch:
- The Event: It’s OK, but the choppy flashbacks and plot holes are starting to frustrate me.
- S— My Dad Says: A train wreck that I’m only watching because of my obligation to the Shat.
- No Ordinary Family: Again, just OK but it seems like it could become “Heroes” 2.0 – and we all know how THAT fiasco turned out.
- Hawaii 5-0: Saw the pilot, the rest linger on my DVR. That kinda says it all.
- Outsourced: Probably the best of the bunch. Not a world-beater, but then “The Office” started slow too.
I’m actually really in love with Undercovers. It’s my favorite of the new season by far. I also like The Event and Hawaii Five-0, but I wouldn’t be heartbroken if either were canceled. Undercovers I would fight for. It’s fun, aesthetically pleasing, has a great cast, and has potential to get even better. I already really love the characters.
agree on all points!!
Why get hooked on a new show that will probably get canceled anyway. With cable you can still watch Grey’s Anatomy, which is having a resurgence and watch Project Runway. Cable repeats most of their shows many times so you can catch them if you don’t have a DVR. Turned off Hawaii 5-0, Undercovers is boring, and Blue Bloods can’t compete with the Food Network.
And the same goes for Hawaii 5-0: I’m watching it for Alex. Otherwise, it’s not that great, so I’m watching BBC shows instead (Single Father anyone?) Still a shame NBC didn’t pick up Rex Is Not Your Lawyer. They have no idea what they lost.
Obsessed with David Tennant much?
You say that like it’s a bad thing…
I hate to agree with you, but other than Alex, Steve and Danny’s repartee, and Daniel Dae Kim, I’m not quite in love with H50, either. I’d say that the new show that I’m most eager to see every week is The Event, but I wouldn’t miss most of them.
I started Netflexing BBC shows I hadn’t seen over the summer, which has kind of filled my “new show” void for now.
I seriously doubt that the producers of Harper’s Island were going for the next Lost. It’s a mini-series that try to apply the conventions of horror films to television and the succeeded brilliantly if you ask me.
I have to say I agree with you Kris on both points! I really enjoyed it too and never saw it as anything like LOST.
Honestly I haven’t watched any new shows. None of them interested me at all.
The only new show that I really like is Outsourced. I know a lot of people seem to hate it but it really tickles my funny bone and I love the characters. And, unlike many other new shows, it doesn’t take itself too seriously.
I agree also with all the positive comments about Terriers – brillant cast and very interesting also happy Lie to Me back Tim Roth best actor on tv
I agree with Ken for the most part…except for H50 and Blue Bloods. They’re the only must-see new shows in our house.
Umm…Terriers and Boardwalk Empire much?
Granted, not network shows, but still.
Love Detroit 187.
