I really LIKED this episode. Great story telling.
Remember subtlety? Rememeber quiet emotions?
How about tribal magic, symbolism, spoken word, chants or legends?
This story was heartbreaking and quite and compelling. Allison Janney was a delightful, spontaneous, ruthless Other Mother and I hope she wins the emmy for this detailed work.
It was a fantastic episode and the writers shold be very proud. I love this show!
Completely disagree. I saw this ep as a companion piece to the previous hour-long back story of Richard Alpert. Jacob and MIB were once simply humans in a long line of humans brought into the island’s maw of fate. It was clearly the beginning of the current mythos but not the beginning of the history of the island and its secrets. I loved it, Ken.
Disagree big time. Unlike Ab Aeterno, this episode actually delivered what it at least implicitely promised – answers. We did, in fact, get so many answers, with so many far-reaching implications, that it will probably take watching the entire series through again to really digest Across the Sea. And unlike others, I not only had no problem with the performances, but I thoroughly enjoyed Mark Pellegrino’s performance as a far less jaded Jacob.
But the best thing was despite all the answers, I was most of all captivated by the story of these two oh-so-human brothers and how they came to be who, and what, they are.
I watched all seasons of Lost on Netflix. I always thought Expose was a through away episode. But I have changed my mind since I have seen all that came after the episode it made it one of Lost best ones. I feel the same about this episode I believe in time it will be regarded as one of the best episodes.

“ITA w/ switching Ab Aeterno with this one in sequence. But last 2 weeks’ submarine-related episodes would have lost their punch if we already understood the moral relativism of jacob v mib.”
I’m with you (and others) on switching Ab Aeterno with last week’s episode, but I disagree with the submarine episodes losing their punch with the background of mib and Jacob. I think if anything it would have made his desperation and disregard for any of these other lives more poignant once we knew his background. This episode brought him into an almost sympathetic light, which I think lies in too stark of a contrast given what we saw in the submarine episodes and how little regard he had for the losties’ lives.
Switching the two would have been a great idea.
Hate to admit I kind of agree
Right on-this helped me sort tinghs right out.
