Joe Biden visits 'The View': Elisabeth Hasselbeck tells security team, 'I'm a Republican, wand me'

Vice President Joe Biden visited The View this morning, and the gals said security was tight backstage. Elisabeth Hasselbeck revealed that the government security team was “wanding” almost everyone, but told her she could pass through uninspected. Hasselbeck said she declared, “No, I’m a Republican, you should totally wand me.”

The wily Hasselbeck brought up the lack of civility in recent political discourse — the example of South Carolina Republican House member Joe Wilson shouting “You lie!” in the Senate was cited — only to zing Biden by saying, “You threw the f-bomb.” Biden said he was “embarrassed” by the moment that occurred during the signing of the health-care bill.

Biden added that President Obama was “laughing like the devil” afterward about Biden’s gaffe.

The vice president also said, when asked about Sarah Palin, that she’s “a charming person…. I like her.”

Barbara Walters had to ask a few of her serious-reporter questions about Iran that didn’t yield anything we haven’t heard before, and the rest of the appearance was devoted to more View-like material, such as birthday girl Sherri Shepherd asking Biden why he had to ask his wife, Jill, to marry him five times before she agreed. He said something genially vague about how she was eight years younger than him and that perhaps that contributed to her reluctance.

Ever since Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, who appeared on The View earlier this week, disclosed that guests are told all the questions the hosts will ask in advance, I figured there was no way Biden would commit any of the verbal blunders about which people love to tweak him. This proved to be the case.

All in all? “You’re a pretty cool guy,” concluded Hasselbeck.

    What’s the “big F’ing deal”?

    • Carol

He’s the VP of the most powerful country in the world, you moron!

  • harry

    GO Joe!!!

    • Lloyd

Wow. They’re not even attempting to hide their true nuarte. We are in this situation in large part because of the federal government’s AAA credit card. Without it, they would have been required to raise taxes, and would have certainly reaped the rewards of doing so, sooner than later. In the meantime, the unions are enforcing structural inequality in the labor market, the public unions are effectively the illegal fourth branch of government, and all of them are united in solidarity to extort America’s wealth. So, what came first, involuntary exploitation or progressive corruption?

  • Mikeyboy

I’d rather have a Vice President who swears on occasion instead of having one that “accidentally” shoots people in the face with a hunting rifle or make shady business practices with Halliburton.

    • RD

Hey, wait a minute Cheney swears too. Remember when he told Patrick Leahy to go f*ck himself? He can do all sorts of horrible things!

    • erf

      Ditto! :D

    • jeff

Biden is the biggest fool of them all! Completely brain dead.

  • Buffy Freak

So Megan Kelly revealed that The View’s guests know the questions ahead of time, huh? You mean like FOX News does for Sarah Palin and all their GOP-friendly pundits? Like MSNBC does with it’s liberal-leaning guests? Shocking!

  • Shiny

So Elizabeth Hasselbeck makes an assasination joke and that’s supposed to be funny? It’s creepy that Republicans are so open with their bile, racism and violent mindset. As I kid I could not comprehend why anyone would conspire to assasinate Lincoln or Kennedy, but now after seeing the hatred of the Tea Baggers and fanatical Republicans I sadly can see where that hate stems from; a deep stubborn ignorance that rails against anything that smacks of higher education, culture and civility. Every time I think that Fox News can’t stoop any lower in their hate speech they manage to dig for new vitriolic lows. Worse yet, the conservatives keep trotting out crackpot stewardesses, druggie daft dodging cowboys, addle pated B movie actors and failed male models as Republican politicians. Is stupidity seen as next to Godliness in the eyes of conservatives? Where are the Fords, Grants, Teddy Roosevelts and Hoovers? Have these right wing gun nuts forgotten that Lincoln was a Republican?

    • Chris

      You’re stupid.

      • erin

        What wit!

      • Mark

Because she does not agreen with you, Fox news is the closet thing to the nazi party America has.

      • Ann

Dear Mark and other commentators: While the Democratic vs. Republican debate shall forever wage, is anyone else troubled by the plummeting of coherent English grammar, puncuation, and spelling? “Agreen”, for example…can you define this putative word for us, Mark?

      • ron

I agree Ann. Puncuation is a particular problem.

      • jeff

Mark you are an idiot. Go back to school and get an education.

    • Hero Kitty

      Fox Derangement Syndrome?

    • BrianBoru

Hey Shiny, where was your indignation when the left was making movies about assassinating Pres. Bush? Claiming all the ugliness and vitriol is one-sided and a new thing is disingenuous at best, dishonest at worst. When I see you condemning lunacy on BOTH sides, then I might take you seriously…

      • Alla

This is truly sad. But, that anchor/reporter was aizgmnaly cool sitting there listening to JB spew his BS rhetoric. JB & BO are two socialist wolves dressed in grandma’s clothes and it should horrify Americans.Reason it doesn’t: Most American slept through high school and cannot even define SOCIALISM. Wait till they’re livin’ in it. They’ll be able to define it then! And probably only by comparing it to the “Good ol’ Days” of Capitalism and (those terribly imposing) Judeo-Christian Values. This is truly sad.

    • CTU chief

You are dumber than a box of rocks.

    • Heather Feather

With your irrelevant examples, you’re hard to take seriously. Better try a little harder to be clever, Shiny. This posting clearly made you seem, well, not current.

  • Q

I don’t generally like Hasselbeck, but it’s nice that she and Biden gave an example of how people can disagree in a respectful manner. Admittedly, Rosie O’Donnell was not good at that.

  • the bigone

Elizabeth Hasselbeck is a prejudicial fool. She can’t be taken seriously about anything. She would be a good runningmate for Palin. What a pair.

    • Hero Kitty

No one hates like a good lib.

      • Brooke

Good God, Hero Kitty. I’m conservative and I don’t even use the word “lib.” Must we use this trite expression for every liberal commentator on this post? It’s going to be quite a busy afternoon and I’ve got work to do.

    • Reese

      I AGREE. THEY’RE BOTH SCARY JACK-ASSES

      • libwithiq

Unlike the scary jackasses that are running…er…ruining the country.

      • Alyssa

Oh yeah – nothing compares to the jackass we just had in office for 8 yrs. Starts a self-serving war, in the middle of it says ” Mission Accomplished” – I dont know of too many people who trust Republicans anymore thanks to Bushy.

  • erin

I love how that idiot Hasselbeck:

    1) implies that she would kill Joe Biden if she had the chance because she disagrees with him politically, and then has the balls to bring up lack of civility in public discourse

    2) actually compares Biden accidentally dropping the f-bomb while expressing his excitement over passing important legislation to a Congressperson shouting “You lie!” at the President of the United States while he is giving a State of the Union address.

    • taksi

It wasn’t an assassination joke. The ladies were talking about how ‘hot’ the Secret Service men were. It was a sex joke and a rather uncharacteristic and funny one from Elisabeth.

Agree with you on the second point, though.

  • matterlyb

Gee, I’m so glad that harpie Elisabeth Hasselback thinks Joe Biden is cool, now I can go about my day.

It’s easy for the wife of a former professional athlete to be a conservative Republican. What does she know or care about middle class or poor families in this country? I hate that shrew.

    • Hero Kitty

No one hates like a good lib!

      • Mike

Really, Hero Kitty? Democrats are the only one’s who hate? Hmmm…must be nice to live your life with blinders on. Have you heard some of the hateful things said about Obama by Republicans? I didn’t think so. And by the way, I do, in fact, hate Elisab*tch Hasselbeck. There, I said it.

      • Kyle

Yes, but the Republicans aren’t trying to pass themselves off as the “party of tolerance.” You hate Hasselbeck because she has opinions which differ from yours. Another example of that wonderful liberal tolerance! Democrats LOVE to preach tolerance, but many are incredibly hateful and mean-spirited, with their name-calling. Hypocrites.

      • erin

100% agree with you kyle! Its okay to be hateful towards bush for 8 years and then when people don’t like YOUR president it is forbidden! Hypocrites! Its hard to be tolerate when the people preaching it to you aren’t living it themselves!

      • signorita alvez

And no one spreads hate like a Tea-Bagger…..

      • springs

What’s with all the generalizing? It doesn’t help any of you to make your point.

      • erin

ugh. why does someone with my name have to be so ignorant?
While I don’t claim to agree with method of expression by every person with whom I agree politically, you cannot POSSIBLY compare the anti-Bush policy statements throughout his administration to what the far-right wack-jobs are doing now. I don’t recall any liberals ever had posters of Bush dressed up as Hitler, nor did they call him a Communist, nor were racial epitets hurled at his Congressional supporters. Not even to mention the racist under (or in some cases OVER) tones of most of what comes out of the tea-baggers “movement.”
You simply cannot compare. It’s like equating someone complaining that white people put too much mayonaise in their food is the same as calling someone a “N—–”.

      • libwithiq

Tea Party members can’t scratch the surface of the hate spewed forth every day by the liberal pundits.

  • Vince

Don’t you love when an entertainment message board becomes a political forum?

    • Rock Golf

      I’m sorry… This is entertaining?!?

    • springs

I know. I used to love politics but now I’m so embarrassed by them that I don’t even claim a party. I know we all have different opinions, but the hatred that stems out from the need to be right… well, it’s kind of scary.

  • god

now now kids just remember that republicans are the chosen ones!!!

    • libwithiq

HA..that’s funny when you’ve got Obama and Biden acting like they are gods gift to mankind.

      • erin

acting like they’re god’s gift, or acting like they were elected by a majority of citizens? which one really bothers you more?

      • libwithiq

erin dear…go check the numbers…they weren’t elected by a majority of citizens…they were elected by a small majority of the voters. That’s a big difference.

      • Alyssa

Well, the electoral votes spoke for themselves. And Democrats won by a landslide. Rep. are just bitter that they lost. Sad, but true. And they dont know how to spew anything but bible verses and hatred comments. Unlike Bush and Gore, that was rigged.

      • Simon

OK, everyone raepet the following:Biden is the dumbest VP ever.Biden is the dumbest VP ever.Biden is the dumbest VP ever.Biden is the dumbest VP ever.Biden is the dumbest VP ever. In the tradition of the lamestream media, continue until accepted as fact.

  • Jim Dickinson

I’ve always found Biden to be a pretty hip, intelligent guy in spite of his occasional f-ups. It’s too easy to be hatin’ on Palin and Cheney. We will see how history judges them in the long-term (oops, I forget that the right-wing Texas Board of Education controls our children’s textbooks). Looks like us kooky, hate-filled liberals will have to teach them instead.

  • brian

Thank God for Biden at least we get a good laugh out of him for the stupid things that come out of his month. Everything else coming out of DC is socialism which is making the working class cry.

    • erin

Get yourself a dictionary and look up the word “socialism.”
      Then we’ll talk.

    • @brian

And we’re ALL still laughing at the dumb things that came out of Bushs’ mouth for 8 years.

      • Alyssa

that is because Bush ran the country for himself not for the people.

  • Bob

Judging from the comments, it appears that the majority of far left idiots are good democrat welfare recipients.

    • Reese

      stfu

      • CTU chief

Witty comeback. You’re almost as smart as Biden.

    • springs

Did you really just post that? It doesn’t even make sense…

  • CTU chief

Good of Joe to find a show where he actually looked almost smart. At least he wasn’t stealing lines and plagerising from the other hosts like he’s most famous for.

    • @CTU chief

Yes and Palin is a member of Mensa right???? The only show she wanted to go on was Saturday Night Live.

      • libwithiq

not mensa…but she’s a hell of alot smarter than Biden.

      • Alyssa

        On what Planet?
