“There are only three things certain in this world,” said Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show last night. “Death, taxes, and Jay Leno at 11:30 on NBC.”
Jay Leno was smitten by the working-mom charms of Kate Gosselin on last night’s Tonight Show. “People give you grief,” said Leno. “But you’re making money to support your family. Nobody else in the family seems to be working, are they?” (Translation: Jon Gosselin criticism.) “You said it,” said Kate happily.
Kate revealed her Dancing With the Stars schedule: Three days in L.A. for the show, then back to the eight children in Pennsylvania. She was disarmingly frank about what Leno called “The Kate Effect” on Dancing‘s current high ratings.
“My dancing isn’t keeping me there,” she said. “They’re tuning in to see if I fall.”
“We’ll be voting for you!” bellowed Jay as he went to a commercial. Hell, after Kate’s admissions, I was ready to vote for her.
Later, on Jimmy Fallon (see how all the talk shows mystically aligned last night?), the host and guest Chris Rock agreed that that Jon Gosselin would have to star on Pole Dancing With the Stars, and Rock noted of DWTS, “Half the people on that show want to dance, and the other half have tax problems.”
Actually, what was most interesting during Rock’s segment were his comments about the upcoming Richard Pryor biopic, of which he’s one of the producers. When he said that Marlon Wayans was going to be terrific playing Pryor — well, first he said Shawn Wayans; it’s nice to know anyone can get the Wayans brothers confused — Rock also told a good dirty anecdote about the only time he met Pryor: In Eddie Murphy’s trailer during the filming of Harlem Nights.
Think on that image for second: Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and Chris Rock in a trailer on the set of Harlem Nights. Now, that will erase Jay Leno and all Gosselins from your mind.

My favorite moment was watching a drunk Tracy Morgan on the Daily Show: looks like Jon Stewart got a new nickname. STEW BEEF!
Tracy was crazy and funny. Who knew that the way to tell an “A-lister” is if they get an extra Whopper and 2 extra apple pies at Burger King?
I had not seen The Daily Show in several weeks. I’m thrilled last night was when I tuned back in to watch. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Watching Jon Stewart roll with Tracy Morgan just being himself was great.
Tracy wasn’t drunk. That’s just the way he is.
I’m generally not a big Tracy Morgan fan, but that segment was hilarious!

This is why I didn’t care about the whole Leno-Conan flap. It is no longer a place to watch wit and conversation. It’s stars plugging their projects and reality hags.

If stars weren’t there to plug their projects, then it’s awfully convenient for their appearances to coincide with the the releases of their projects.
That’s WHY people (of all levels of celebrity) go on talk shows…to promote their projects. Always been that way.

God, Jay Leno makes me hate him more and more. I used to cut him slack (he’s a nice guy in real life) but his on-screen kiss-*ss is just the worst. Why should America feel sympathy for Kate Gosselin? She doesn’t DO anything, like her dead-beat husband. Gah.
I like how they beat up on a stay-at-home parent, as if it is a bad thing, regardless of reality tv show or not. Kate is a domestic abuser and Leno is/was/always will be lame.

Kate made me sick last night and Jay and his bu**-kissing made me sicker. She’s so full of herself, and yet somehow she’s boring as well. Who actually would want to watch this woman hosting a talk show, which is what I think she’s angling for? I also don’t see how Kate can get the credit for DWTS beating Idol this year. I blame Idol’s weak crop of contestants.
If Kate was responsible then we would expect 20+million viewers for her solo show. But I don’t think so. Kate sucks.
I agree with Carolina. Idol has a weak crop of contestants this year. To me, no one really stands out as extra special with a banging voice. Even some talk critics said the same.

WHY was KG on The Tonight Show? Shame on Jay for giving this woman air time. She must be sleeping with her agent (and who knows who else) to get all these gigs that she doesn’t deserve.
Kate handled herself with grace and class. People really need to back off. Obviously, the world is still interested. We are reading the articles, commenting on what we see, and tuning in when she appears. What she is doing is no more “whoring herself and her family” than is any individual on reality TV. Her marriage fell apart in front of the whole world, and her audience (seemingly in their wisdom and self-proclaimed perfection) started wagging a finger and placing blame…and continued to watch. Let the woman support her family, and let her family heal. They have been through enough. If you don’t like what she has to say, don’t tune in, don’t read the articles. But some of us are really hoping that his family can pull through this difficult time and wind up on top.
wow, i really think you are being naive….like most ppl, I want to read about Craig Ferguson…but she made it impossible to ignore her, just like most ppl comment, she is EVERYWHERE! Really, I feel like she complains all the time when there are ppl in the world who are really suffering. Ppl with big family who do not have money from reality shows to feed their children so they have to work 2 or 3 part time jobs. Ppl in Africa who can’t even afford food. So I think she should stop complaining for once and look at how wonderful her life is with her children alive and healthy. Actually–what you are seeing here is not voyeurism…it’s empathy. For some of us, watching a family’s tragedy playing itself out for the world to see is a little unnerving. Seeing this family…any family, really…dragged through the mud is difficult to watch. We find people on television and in the media to whom we relate, and as human beings we become invested in their outcomes. There is something to be said for people caring enough about others to hope for the best on their behalf.

Kate fan, before going to medical science to have all these babies, Jon and Kate should have thought about how they would support them. Kate is a nurse, and yet I don’t see her applying for a nursing job. Kate and Jon both seem to want to be celebrities, and they used their litter of children to achieve that. The audience did not “continue to watch,” dear. Thankfully “JonandKate…” is cancelled, and this season of DWTS will come to a merciful end sometime in the near future.

I read the article to hear about Chris Rock – I could not care less about the Gosselins. Their time is up. I would not bother to watch the clip from the Tonight Show since I can’t stomach Jay Leno.

UGH! Ted Gibson, the new hair stylist on “What Not To Wear” did Kate’s horrible extensions. They got rid of a great stylist, Nick Arrojo, on WNTW and replaced him with Gibson, because Gibson is a stylist for “celebrities” like Kate.
