You Don’t Know Jack is a terrific new TV-movie about Jack Kevorkian, premiering Apr. 24 on HBO. Al Pacino plays Kevorkian in one of his best recent performances, making the crusader for physician-assisted suicide into a medical radical and a lovable old crank. Here’s an exclusive look at the two-minutes-plus trailer for the film, directed by Barry Levinson (Rain Man).
Susan Sarandon co-stars in the biopic as Susan Good, head of the Hemlock Society and a friend of Kevorkian's. John Goodman is low-key wonderful as Kevorkian's best friend, and Danny Huston is Kevorkian's flamboyant lawyer. The movie gives us a new perspective on the man who came to be known as "Dr. Death."

Holy crap this is awesome!!!!
I’m a Catholic who firmly believes euthanasia is wrong. I might have been interested to see this movie if it didn’t once again paint the protesters as total caricatures. So tired of this misinformed Hollywood cliche. Freedom of assembly is a good thing, and not all protesters are religious nuts.
Euthanasia, like gay marriage, is none of your business. If you think euthanasia is wrong, then don’t practice it. If you think those who do are going to Hell, that’s your prerogative. And yes, in this great country of ours, you have the right to protest. But why is it humane to put a suffering dog to sleep but a person has to continue to suffer? How can religious people say abortion is wrong because only God can control life and death and then force me to stay alive? Isn’t stopping me from killing myself playing God? You can’t have it both ways. I should have the right to “sin” and deal with the consequences.
We cannot sanction unrestricted suicide, but there is no reason the AMA cannot come up with a very specific set of medical criteria under which a person who reached a certain diminished quality of life from a terminal or incurable disease can have the right to not continue to suffer. No one wants to infringe on your right to stay alive so do not try to infringe on my right to end my suffering. Tolerance goes both ways. Believe what you want, but our government should make decisions based on what is legal and constitutional, not the personal morals of a particular subset of society.
Excellently spoken. I agree 100%.
Yeah, I don’t think we’re going to change eachother’s minds on this, so I’m not going to bother debating the issue of euthanasia. I was just trying to make a point about what an overused cliche the zealous protester is.
Jack Kevorkian, with all his eccentricities, is an absolute pioneer. I’m proud to see that he has been honored with a great movie made of his life and struggles. Trust me, doctors make “the decision” every day … it’s just under the radar. Kevorkian had the courage to take euthanasia into the sunlight.
right on!
back on topic- this movie looks great… glad to see Al Pacino & Barry Levinson doing work that doesnt seem beneath them
Looks like a very good movie. Want to see it.
When he is on his game, Al is unparalleled.
Pacino is the greatest actor alive. Great film.
Pacino is definitely gonna rock this time.
How sad is it that I got excited to see the Detroit skyline in the trailer? Small pleasures! Can’t wait to see the movie!
