Fox News' wild afternoon: Megyn Kelly pummels Bill O'Reilly, debates Nicolette Sheridan versus Marc Cherry

Megyn Kelly, the attorney who hosts Fox News’ afternoon show America Live, is nothing if not contrarian. This afternoon, she weighed in on the Desperate Housewives/Nicollette Sheridan case, and handed Bill O’Reilly his backside in another segment.

In the regular segment called “Kelly’s Court,” Kelly had two talking-heads yammer about whether or not Nicollette Sheridan has a legal case against Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. While dubious about Sheridan waiting so long after the alleged assault and battery charge the actress has filed, Kelly thinks Sheridan “has a case” if Cherry “actually hit her.” You can see the clip here.

More interestingly, Kelly went a little meta on her audience, debating O’Reilly on her show for a segment of TheĀ O‘Reilly Factor that will air tonight.

You can hear the details about the case they’re debating below. What’s interesting is the way O’Reilly, who can usually bully his way through any argument he pleases by cutting off an opinion with which he disagress, gets more or less hammered by Kelly. She does not give an inch in her pleasantly-phrased but no less firm indignation that O’Reilly has taken her comments out of context, and her defense of free speech:

“We have a first amendment that allows you to say disgusting things in this country,” said Kelly. Bracing words to hear any afternoon.

It’s like watching Medusa fight a minotaur.

    • Luis

It’s like they are trying to see who can shout the loudest. Why does anyone watch this crap?!

  • silk

    Two attention-seeker people, who cares?

this site like so many other entertainment sites, is so anti-Fox News. Where are all the posts about CCN or MSNBC news?

I don’t like Fox News either, and I’m no Republican, but the bias in “entertainment” reporting is absurd.

      • amy

Fox News is the only one that qualifies as entertainment (i.e., not real news). CNN and MSNBC are legitimate news sources. As such, EW shouldn’t cover them.

      • Rebekah

Amy, you’re terribly misguided if you think what CNN and MSNBC present is actual news. Let’s face it, TV news is not reliable nor credible. Newspapers continue to be the best news source, but people just don’t like to read anymore. What a shame.

      • MN

True. However, only one cable channel claims to be Fair And Balanced and has the word NEWS in it’s title. Pure propaganda is not news or fair.

O’Reilly seemed to be more interested in starting an argument than discussing the court case. Not that I’m surprised, because arguing is his thing. Kelly wanted to talk about the facts, and legal issues, regarding the case. I wonder how much Billo will edit out for his show. I’m sure he didn’t like that Megyn showed him up.

And as much as I hate to disagree with a Fox News commentator, she’s absolutely right. And it is a giant shame, because words do hurt.

    • Yes

It’s interesting that even their own hosts know how O’Reilly is and how he misrepresents. The first time I watched him over a decade ago I was turned off by a discussion he had regarding something at a university. He had a college sophomore representing students and a state senator and O’Reilly disagreeing. I thought it was so ridiculous that they were shouting down this 20 year old who obviously was not used to being on television and was extremely nervous. It was over the top – not a fair fight.

Megyn Kelly is hot! She can argue with me any day!

    • Marcus

      Agreed.

  • Joseph

Too bad she can’t turn Bill O’Reilly to stone and shut his mouth forever.

Wow! If he actually slapped her, she would have a case! What illuminating legal advice she gave! That is part of her claim so of course she would recover dumb blonde. What next? If she was unfairly fired, she should recover damages.

  • Skippy

go back to watching Communist News Network. Nothing to see here.

    • BooRadley

Interesting that you mention communism. O’Reilly is essentially arguing for greater government control. . . .

    • MN

Spoken like a true Fox nipple sucker.

  • JMH

Wow. That man is insane. And ignorant. But mostly insane. How did he become such a big-time loudmouth to the masses? Oh, right. The masses are asses. Poor Megyn. She’s probably being yelled at for disagreeing with O’Reilly on the air as well as reminding people that the First Amendment protects both good and bad speech. It was kind of hard to see O’Reilly through that huge smug cloud hanging over his head.

  • Eric

Kelly is right; O’Reilly is wrong. Not even close.

  • ashley

    she SLAUGHTERED him.
    Nice.

    • Grupo

They are gentitg so big! And yes, I love seeing them with Juno so much. But I’m afraid I won’t actually pack them up and send them to you. You have to come and visit them!

  • woot

I think the church is doing horrible things. But Kelly has a point. The members protest far away from the funerals and if this passes, other legitimate protests would be in jeopardy. I don’t really know what to think.

  • Lyn

I like Megyn OK, but cannot watch her very long because her manner of speaking drives me nuts — that ultra-dramatic, staccato delivery is just crazy.

    • Serdar

Just what we don’t need–ANOTHER bank. Disappointing. It would have been nice to have some sort of raeitl or service establishment to continue and enhance the excitement of the walk-to establishments like Edloe Cafe.

  • Peggy Odeh

Americans are a lost cause if this is even cause for debate

  • Spud

I never thought I’d be agreeing with someone on Fox News, but Megyn Kelly certainly had many well reasoned points which she certainly used to get one up on O’Reilly. This case has greater implications regarding the rights of free speech. If O’Reilly had his way, the very act of protesting would become illegal. As Kelly rightfully pointed out, you can’t support sordid protests at abortion clinics (a subject which O’Reilly blatantly ignored) and then not support sordid protests at a funeral. Frankly, I think both are horrible. But they have the right to do so anyway. And O’Reilly can’t pick and choose.

    • Ben

Yes, because people protesting against the legal “right” to kill one’s own baby is very similar to that of expressing one’s happiness with a soldier’s death at that soldier’s funeral. You’re truly an idiot, Spud.

      • Rebekah

Ben, your reply is rude, and you clearly didn’t understand what Spud was stating. Also, it is not necessary to call anyone an idiot.

      • Jon

People have no “right” to kill a baby. Doesn’t matter what your government says. Nazi Germany said it was right to slaughter Jews, I don’t see that being considered right by anyone else. That’s what’s wrong with America, people want to hold one f’ed up idea in one hand and use the other hand to swat down all other f’ed up ideas that don’t match THEIR thinking.

      • Cida

And they are even wilnilg to do the packing for you! What a service! Also, yeah, I think they have take out a patent on being adorable …

  • Linda

    Megyn Kelly is my hero.

  • Elle

Oh, if Ann Coulter’s on my side, I know I’m right.
