I’ve been laughing a lot more at “Parks and Recreation” than “30 Rock” this season. Even though P&R has some levels of silliness, it seems to be more grounded in reality. I feel like “30 Rock” has really gone overboard on the wackiness lately. Plus, they are becoming guest star whores in the same way that “Will and Grace” used to be.
Both are very, very strong TV shows, but I do like 30 Rock better, despite a couple of rocky episodes this season. The whole Kabletown debacle is hilarious, so was the line about how Jack’s obituary was going to say he was a “mid-manager of a porn company from Philadelphia.” I’ve lived in all the major east coast cities, so the Boston vs. Philadelphia argument was very funny to me (and all of them collectively making fun of LA.) Also the Tina Fey/Michael Sheen scenes were gold.
P&R is very good too, love this season. Jerry’s whole timeshare slide with the umbrella was hysterical (that whole scene actually,) and Andy Samberg was just awesome. Community was really good too…I was laughing throughout the whole thing. The Office is still good, just not what it used to be, which is okay, but I think the Sabre plotline is wearing thin, and it took WAAYYYY too long for Andy and Erin to get together.
Liz LEMOOOOOOOON!
Amen, Sistah! Lemon for ever!
I feel almost blasphemous for saying it, but 30 Rock just isn’t doing it for me this year. I still watch religiously hoping it will make me LOL like it used to, but if I muster even a chuckle these days, that’s saying a lot. Thank god Parks has stepped up to fill in the laugh void.
30 rock has always been able to get laughs out of me, but i have noticed that I have been enjoying Parks and Rec more lately. They are both great and make Thursday night better.
‘Parks and Recreations’ is the better show right now. The cast gels perfectly, the writing is sharp, and Amy Poehler is wonderful. It’s probably my favorite comedy right now.
All this Kabletown nonsense on ’30 Rock’ is just too inside and I hope it’s over with soon. I still love Tracy and Jenna though. They get the best lines and always deliver. But on a whole ’30 Rock’ seems like it’s running out of steam. It’s not as tired as ‘The Office’ has gotten, but I’m still worried about it.
30 Rock never ceases to amaze me with the wit they use to bite the hand that feeds them.
Parks & Rec has been spectacular this season (I think the episode where Leslie threw the dinner party, and called all of the teachers from the rec center to help could be the episode that wins them an Emmy).
The Office has actually been QUITE good this season, in my opinion. LOVED the wedding episode, the baby ep was fantastic because they avoided every “we just had a baby” cliche in the book while still making the episode funny and likeable. AND the new owners have given them a wealth of new storylines (oh, and Andy and Erin are adorable).
Factor in Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Cougar Town, and Glee, and it’s gonna be a really competitive year for comedy at the Emmys.
I think that P@R is just trying hard to be The Office. So, 30 and Tina over R@R. But, I don’t really think about them separably.
I HATE THIS ALL!!!!! … well hate is a strong word… should i say accurate word… not the best video! but hey! its all good! im going to a fanfarlo concert today! WOO HOO!
i am ambidextrous!!! WOO HOO! EVERYONE!! go to the website MLIA!!!! BEST EVER!!
I actually just got park into Parks&Rec after giving up on it last year and I love it, but my heart will always lie with 30 Rock. Liz Lemon FTW.
Great article, Ken! I never considered the tone contrast between the two shows but yes, it definitely exists. Perhaps that’s why I can’t seem to get into Patks and Rec, it’s a little too sunny and broad for my taste, whereas 30 Rock hits me in my comedy sweet spot: satire, sarcasm and jabs at authority.
