Jimmy Fallon bleeds, Jimmy Kimmel worships the devil: a late-night round-up

Proving that adolescent drinking games can be hazardous to your health, Jimmy Fallon fell and cut his hand while conducting one of his “martini races” on Tuesday night against Chelsea Handler. The slip and fall Fallon took was impressive, as was the amount of blood he started leaking… as was Handler’s aplomb: “I just wanted to promote my new book,” she said, gazing sourly at Fallon’s wound:

Meanwhile, last night Jimmy Kimmel suggested to American Idol that instead of doing a bland “peppy” group number, they ululate about worshiping the devil, drinking blood, eating hearts and brains. Here’s the song:

I’d like to put up the best moment of all: the terrific moment during last night’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson when Craig began deconstructing late-night cliches — the host signaling to the band; doing a Leno-esque adjustment to his tie; railing against having to wear a suit (“like a f—ing mortician!”) just because “talk show hosts have been doing this since the 1950s, so I have to dress like this? It’s like the Amish!”…

… but of course CBS.com never makes Craig’s clips available at a sensible hour the next morning. By which I mean now.

Craig Ferguson is awesome, and i love that he is getting more and more recognition. If he was on earlier i know he would conquer late night.

Maybe CBS doesn’t put up his clips quickly, but Malinky2Stoatir uploads whole shows from the previous nights by the following mornings, which is even better.

Who cares? CONAN’S GOING ON TOUR AND TICKETS ARE ON SALE TODAY!!!!

  • youknow

Way to keep up EW. Jimmy Fallon fell on Tuesday night.

  • Totally Amused

AND once again Craig Ferguson proves why he is the best at what he does. As Leno’s numbers continue their slow decline…so will Fallon’s…and Ferguson will once again be kicking Fallon’s unfunny arse to the comedy curb.

I think that he is the best comedian on television at this time. His deconstructing the show makes it even more entertaining. You never know exactly what is going to happen. Remember when Milton Berle came out with different costumes every week, well this is not costumes, but you are surprised at what he is doing with the show every night..It really is great to go to bed with a laugh in these times.

I was a HUGE Ferguson fan for years, but no longer. He has been saying some real ignorant things lately and his need to always cuss is just NOT funny. And like Ken wrote above, looks like Craig STILL feels the need to cuss. Very sad. It just proves how sad and ignorant this country has become when people think it is funny to cuss. There is NEVER a need for swearing and you can still be extremely funny without it. Those that feel the need to cuss are ignorant and must have a VERY low vocabulary that they can’t think of another word to use instead!! Which is why it really surprises me that Craig continually feels the need to do so. He is so intelligent and hysterical without it. Having to cuss makes it all ugly…. not funny. Seems like all the late night guys feel that their audiences are drunk college kids. Very sad!! GET BONNIE HUNT IN LATE NIGHT!! She would be PERFECT!
She can stand above all the guys in late night….hands down!!

Shelly, I feel your pain. There are not many of us left who are so delicate and fragile we can’t tolerate knowing someone is swearing behind a bleep. It’s just too much to bear. I know, let’s have a sweet tea on the veranda and cool ourselves with a lace fan.

I don’t see much of the late night talks, not because I don’t want to, but because when they are on is when I watch the shows I DVR in prime time. So Ken I find your column and the imbedded clips invaluable. Please keep them coming.

    Conan did it better.

      agreed

How does jimmy fallon still have a job?!He has the nervous energy of someone getting interrogated by the kgb….its painful to watch.

    • Becky Hunter

Awww, give him a break. I find his demeanor endearing. He still has a job because there are more people who watch his show than you think, and he IS funny. Your opinion doesn’t speak for the majority. A lot of people don’t like Conan either, which baffles me to no end.

Jimmy Kimmel rocks!!He talks to guests as if they were attending one of his infamous football parties…..

I adore Craig –a bit too obsessively– but increasingly I sense his edginess. (the… “I- want-out-of -this-boring-meeting -that-has-gone-on-2 hours too long” type.) His unhappiness is palpable. I think the quicksand of late show bitterness is sucking down both the CBS gents. While I put Craig skyscrapers above Conan, the redhead kept a passion, enthusiasm and pride in what he did that is ebbing out of Craig. It’s obvious it’s the autumn (not yet winter) of Craig’s discontent and the staleness of falling back on the same old same old is, frankly, getting a bit moldy bread. Ok, so he wants to be anywhere but there (then why did u sign contract extension???) which is bad since we love him being right exactly where he is. Twinkly eyes in front of the camera inviting you to share the joke. His brilliance is unmatched. From where I sit he doesn’t have it so bad.He may even miss it when it’s gone. But, then again, I don’t know what goes on behind the evil eye of CBS,what pressures he has, either. I just wish he could his joy. I’ll take his bitters with his sweet and sour, and make it a double. But I miss the silly mayhem that was once the TLLS helmed by Craig Ferguson.

    JG,
Your purple prose and intrusive analysis of Craig are instantly recognizable. Seek help.

    • Becky Hunter

Yeah, it’s unbelieveable. Sorry, I couldn’t help but incorporate that smash hit from the 90′s in there. :)

  • Randhil

It’s sopkyo how clever some ppl are. Thanks!

I am not saying nonsense. This is awesome information. I have already came to similar conclusion. It is a real eye opener and may prompt me to make some serious changes to my current strategies.
