'Chuck Versus The Beard' review: What do you think of the secrets revealed last night?

This week’s Chuck, directed by star Zachary Levi, was a bold one for a series based on keeping secrets and keeping things light. Read the full post.

When the series began, Chuck had been kicked out of Stanford, because Bryce had set him up to get busted for cheating. But last night, people kept mentioning Chuck’s “Stanford degree”. Did I miss something? Did I forget an episode where he went back and got his degree?

The CIA got Stanford to agree to give Chuck his degree. It was never discussed HOW they convinced them, but considering Stanford Stanford was an agent breeding ground, they may have told them the full story.

For those who are worried about Casey…? Let me jump on the bandwagon. I went back to see the preview I must have seen fifteen times already today(it’s so good and I can’t get enough) I noticed something in Casey’s behavior when he pulls the gun on Chuck, he doesn’t look angry, but I noticed for the first time in the fifteen times I went through it, He looked desperate. like a cloud is hanging over him and when I saw that I got a little worried myself thinking aloud Oh Casey what have they done to you? Oh corks this week is going by painfully slow.

I thought “Chuck vs. The Beard” had two meanings: One being the one you mentioned, and the other being Chuck vs. Morgan, who was referred to in the episode (as he has been in previous episodes) as “the bearded guy/man/etc.” I, too, thought the episode was awesome. We had more of the old Chuck back, and Morgan stole the show–I REALLY hope we see more of him again. His lesser role in recent episodes has been noticeable. Poor Sara–she’s thought Chuck had been killed on several occasions, and has seen him seconds away from dying even more often. Iwo Jima bit was hilarious (never thought I’d say that in a sentence) and Jeffster was great. They had better do right by Casey–Casey is AWESOME, and Adam Baldwin even more so.

I’m sure the double meaning was intended.

this was such a great episode. I’m reallly getting back into chuck. The first half of the season seemed to lull and I wasn’t as interested in the souped up chuck. LOVE Awesome as Casey said, “well awesome is awesome”. He has had a great part this year, but he does seem a bit TOO freaked by the whole thing. Can’t wait to see more… I really hope they do a rescue in Africa, how cool.

I am sorry but it really pisses me off. First Anna is gone now they are getting rid of Ellie and Awesome due to budget restraints. I have the perfect solution…get rid of Shaw. Since he is supposed to be a “big star”(?) I bet his salary is more than Anna’s, Awesome’s and Ellie’s combined. We don’t love Shaw. Heck from what I can tell most of us don’t even like him. We won’t miss him a bit…but we will mourn the loss of Awesome and Ellie.

I’m 99% sure they aren’t getting rid of the Awsomes, but showing they won’t have a place to run from The Ring

I think that the person on the phone is Caseys sensi. I dont know the actors name but it sounds just like him. Casey is not a mole for one. And like i said about the previous episode, Shaw is a triple agent. He will b unmasked soon. Looking forward to next weeks episode.

No he’s done with. I’d bet ten to one it’s Colonel Keller
Casey’s former commander. The guys voice on the other end was sinister so I’m guessing Keller isn’t a good guy by the sound of it.

Fantastic episode. This is a show my whole family watches and LOVES and we all agreed that this particular episode was one of the best. Thank goodness Morgan knows, Chuck needs a real confidant. I love Awesome and Ellie and hope any leave they take is short lived.

Loved the show. Loved the Buy More “revolution.”

Priceless moment: The look on Lester’s face when Jeff pulled the knife!

PS – Great job directing Zac!

The Buymore Revolution was one of the most entertaining things I have seen on Chuck, and one of the reasons I love the large ensemble cast. This one show had more entertaining content than three other hour long spy dramas combined.

This was a great episode, with the humor, some action, and excellent writing, acting, and directing.

The way the spy stuff was linked to the BuyMore was very good, and overall, this episode had more of the style of Seasons 1 and 2. It was awesome to see everyone appear at least in small parts, throughout.

When Sarah and Shaw have to apologize to Awesome for interrupting his and Ellie’s getaway, that was fantastic, just very funny. Hopefully if they go to Africa, this will be written into the show.

The fight scene with Casey, the Ring, and then Jeff was great and also very funny.

Chuck’s fight scene with the Ring was awesome. It again took the thought of Sarah and direct encouragement from Chuck’s best friend to get him to flash. Also totally agree that Morgan telling Chuck that everyone knows how much he is in love with Sarah was awesome.

Zach is better at the action scenes/if that is him, and he did awesome in directing this episode.

I agree that there should be a major arc about Sarah and Chuck discussing her disclosing her real name to Shaw instead of Chuck. Although she does have some leeway, in that Chuck turned her down in Prague and slept with Hannah.

Although this episode was awesome, IMHO, Morgan should not have found out Chuck’ secret. It would have been much more humorous if Awesome continued to assist Chuck in keeping his secret, while Ellie and Morgan teamed up on occasion.

As Sarah said, Chuck originally did not want his family/friends to get involved with the CIA and NSA. They could have put Morgan and/or Awesome in witness protection or confinement.

Now both Morgan and Awesome will cover for Chuck, with Chuck only requiring a cover for Ellie. This greatly reduces the need for any cover. Is this Alias or Chuck?

A huge missed opportunity was not having the Ellie/Sarah interaction, since they were at the same hotel.

It was great that Sarah supported Chuck, both when Shaw was going to blowup the Castle and when Morgan was not put into witness protection.

As mentioned, there was the discrepancy about whether or not the Ring was able to forward communications to their HQ. Maybe Shaw correctly stated the Castle’s devices prevented the upload from transmitting.

In the first scene, was that one of the blue tops with buttons of Sarah’s that Chuck mentioned he liked so much in Season 1?

More Sarah would be really welcome.

It was obvious ZL was directing. The pacing was much better than usual. The Awesomes aren’t being written out but it’s good to see Hannah is! Robert Patrick is way more worth the money!
