'Chuck' controversy: Chuck and Hannah versus Sarah and Shaw: Where do you stand?

There’s no new Chuck tonight, because of NBC’s Olympics coverage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about the current Chuck controversy. Read the full post.

Keeping Chuck & Sarah at bay keeps it interesting. Frankly, I agree with the Moonlighting theory – if they become a cute couple, then it’s like we’ve had the happily ever after and it’s all over.

But for me, the most important point is that Hannah is so beautiful and it’s sad that she’ll be gone after only one more episode.

Does anyone really think that they won’t end up together? Seriously, it took three full seasons for Jim and Pam to get together on The Office so what’s the rush? Kristen Kreuk and Brandon Routh are doing great, and seeing our guys in different relationships will only make their eventual reconciliation that much sweeter. To me, the show is a comedy first, spy show second, and maybe romance third. So these “shippers” just need to appreciate this show while it lasts and let the creators do their jobs.

God please don’t let this devolve into people whining for their special couple to be together. And no merged names. I don’t want to read anything about how people are rooting for “Charah” or “Suck”.

I also love Morgan and Ellie “working together”…they are so funny individually, even better in scenes together. I’m not too worried about the side romances, either. Like another poster stated, Chuck is slightly more action comedy, than a romantic comedy,so there’s not the constant pressure to hurry up and get them together. This is one of the things I love about the show : )

Maybe part of the freak-out was precipitated by the fact that we don’t know whether Chuck will get another season; if it gets canceled, Schwartz & Fedak won’t have very many episodes to wrap things up — by which I mean get Chuck and Sarah together, which I think is where most of us expect it to go. Fans hate to be left hanging by an ill-timed cancellation.

I’m really in it for the action/comedy more than the romance, so that wasn’t what bothered me. I was just disappointed with the way they sent half the cast on furlough and otherwise saved money. It really cut the legs out from under the episode. But I’m also not a fan of the Shaw character, the MI6 spy they had in last season was much more fun.

    • Courtney

Agreed on last seasons MI6 guy…he was more fun, and also ridiculously hot.

    • Amy

I disagree. For me Shaw is the hottest actor in this show ever. I really like this character.

I like the Hannah and Chuck pairing, but the one with Sarah and Shaw just doesn’t work at all IMO. Which kind of sucks since Shaw will be around much longer while Hannah only has one more episode. Kind of the opposite of what I’d want.

    I don’t mind at all.
The WTWT stuff was getting boring and I’m glad they took it elsewhere for the time being. I hate when they call something a ‘love interest’ when in fact it’s only for one episode. I like Shaw and Hannah and am happy for them to stay, the former more so. I realise that the fanbase is vital to Chuck’s survival, however that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t trust the creators.
In most heavily fan influenced TV series, fans feel that it could all go wrong at the slightest sign of going away from the standard shipped couples. Trust in these geniuses. The third series has been awesome so far, it can only get better.

I think Chuck/Sarah do belong together, but I don’t mind this slight diversion. It’s being done well. We’re still seeing Chuck and Sarah feeling conflicted about what’s going on with them, and we know that these little relationships aren’t going to last.

Is there anything sadder than tv viewers worrying over the love lives of fictional characters.

Come on people, let the writers do their jobs, and enjoy the ride for what its worth, or stop watching it.

Worry about something important, like Haiti, or the heartbreak of psoriasis.

I love this show and it has been very enjoyable this season. I appreciate the way the characters are growing. My feelings towards the show would label me a “shipper” but I am going to reject this horrible name, just as I reject words like “Charah”, “Brangelina”, and “Bennifer” ;) But whatever floats your boat….I may be a shipper, but I don’t see anything that happened last episode that I should feel betrayed about or that I think betrays the characters. It needs to play out and I look forward to it doing so. I have no doubt that Chuck will find his feelings aren’t nearly as deep for Hannah as they are for Sarah and as for Sarah/Shaw, I think Sarah is either playing him to find out information or because she is suspicious of him or perhaps to let know Chuck she has moved on so he can feel free to pursue the possibility of Hannah – she wants the best for Chuck.

The main thing is, I am glad that the media is milking this controversy for all its worth – publicity is great for this little show, but really, say 300 people commented on boards, or maybe even 1000, but they all weren’t negative and the crazy boycott idea certainly wasn’t clung to by many. Is this really a controversy? Whatever, though, long live Chuck and long live Chuck/Sarah! I am looking forward to a Mr & Mrs. Smith vibe with a great geek comedy slant for Season 4!

I have no problem with the current storyline. First, I don’t trust Hannah not to have a hidden agenda. Second, sometimes a couple learn more about what they really feel when they are with somebody else. Shaw has been good for Chuck; giving him solo missions and trusting him with his life on a few occasions. Once Sarah need to protect Chuck, but it’s not longer the case. I’d say their relationship has entered new ground, and both are a bit wary of it.

Unlike the die-hard fans who are upset, this die-hard fan is taking the long-term view…Chuck and Sarah will be together; the show is just practicing the time-honored rule of dramatic tension by having them consider relationships with other people. Brandon Routh and Kristin Kreuk are actually doing a nice job playing characters that have some genuine appeal for Sarah and Chuck. If you’re determined to dislike Shaw and Hannah, at least keep in mind that Routh and Kreuk are GUEST STARS whose presence on the show are finite.

Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski have such palpable, intense chemistry that the writers would be absolutely doing the actors, characters and the audience a disservice to not have them end up a couple. Part of the outcry by upset fans is that today’s culture is so conditioned to expect and want immediate gratification that they’re furious when it doesn’t happen on their schedule and their needs.

Oh, the “Moonlighting” excuse cited in some comments? Personally, I’ve come to loathe it; that show blew up in everyone’s faces because the producers and writers got creatively lazy, and also because of some serious external issues (Bruce Willis’ burgeoning film career, Cybil Sheppard’s pregnancy, the real dislike between the two actors) caused irreparable disharmony on the set.

So, for those folks who are all about the relationship in “Chuck”, relax…it’ll happen, and probably by the end of the show’s original 13-episode order. With the additional six episodes ordered by NBC, the fans will be basking in some serious Chuck and Sarah togetherness by the time the 2-hour season finale comes around.

I loved Kristen on Chuck. she was awesome and really cute. The only thing is, I’m a pretty new convert (just started watching this season) and I thought “isn’t Chuck supposed to be going with Sarah!?” And I couldn’t help but remember the ol’ days of Smallville where Clark was thrown off the trail of Lois for Lana….I was all like “Kristen is only used for distracting main character romance now!?” lol

    • Galia

Wilson honey, I watched SV for at least 7 seasons and Clana were the main relationship of the show, NOT Clois (btw Lois only joined in S4, Lana was there from the Pilot and got together with Clark before Lois even showed up), oh and it’s Kristin, not Kristen.. and I’m not mad, just get your facts straight before posting :)

I enjoy the riff that the new characters bring in. It would be extremely boring if they stayed together all of the time. I like what the writers are doing and I think that them getting with other characters is being blown way out of proportion. I cant think of one show that has put there will-they-wont-they couples with other characters for short periods. It wont last, and I think the publicity its bringing will help ratings.

    Bravo to the writers!

    • H-ROB

whoops I meant hasn’t put the couples with other characters
