NBC's website to Olympics fans: Want to watch video? Good luck!

Filed under: News and tagged: , ,

Could NBC come up with a less user-friendly website than the one the network has created for its Olympics coverage?

Granted, I’m no tech genius by any stretch, but only after switching to a different laptop and trying a third browser have I been able to view NBC’s fiercely guarded, churlishly few videos of the Games thus far… and most of those that I can access move with a tediously slow, herky-jerky motion.

Anyone else having this problem?

I’m having the same problem. I don’t have cable. So I was hoping to watch some olympics live online. No such luck.

Try our Canadian sites. We don’t just spotlight American victories we spotlight EVERYONE. ctv.ca/olympics

Thanks, I will give it a try.

After failing on NBC.com, I tried your recommended site and get the same error message: “The video is not loading properly. Please give us another minute to access your video.” Anyone know where I can get video of the torch lighting ceremony? That’s all I want to see.

      • AnnR

Yah I get the same error. NBC is BS

    • artmaven

Same. Total waste of time and now I’ve got all these 3rd party cookies to eliminate. More time wasted. Thanks NBC.

Won’t work at all on a non-Intel Mac. It keeps telling me to install some add on and the freaking add-on won’t install. And no I don’t want to switch over to a Windows machine.

  • lynn

Same problem! I’ve tried repeatedly to install the add on and nothing seems to work. Way to go, NBC, another “smooth move” in a long line of them over the past few years.

SAME PROBLEM!! This is such BS. I’m pissed.

The sad part is I had the exact same problems trying to watch video highlights from the 2008 Summer Olympics. You’d think NBC would have learned and/or improved in 2 years time.

    • Crazy Bearded Jack

NBC learn or improve? Are we thinking of the same network?

    • Sean

Hmmm. Time to upgrade your machines?

      • Maureen

Sean, who is making money off this? NBC. They can make it accessible or LOSE VIEWERS. I’m not changing equipment to help NBC make money. That’s not how it works.

Try the official website http://www.vancouver2010.com/. They have links to watching the games online. You might be able to watch them from a different countries website.

I can’t get anything to work on the nbc site except the home page. Everytime I try to navigate on the page I get a new window that does nothing. Obviously NBC does not know what they are doing…they are clueless…problems with there site should already be fixed. I’m an expert computer user.

    • AnnR

They want their web site to fail so we are forced to watch TV with all their useless chatter and endless commercials.

  • Mike

I haven’t had any technical problems (Safari on an Intel Mac). My only complaint is that I wanted more clips of the ceremony. There were parts 1 and 2, but there was so much more that’s unavailable.

  • S

I had the same problem at first in Firefox. You have to make sure you have your browser set to accept third party cookies — now it’s working just fine.

    • Kristin

Thank you so much for this tip!!! Nowhere else could I find this advice, but this was exactly what my problem was :) . Sweet!

    • David

Thank you so much. I can now enjoy the Olympics online. I just have to endure the short commercial before each video :)

    • Al

Thanks! I checked the box – accept third party cookies – and the videos loaded.

  • Hudson

NBC video worked just fine on on MacBook Pro wih snow leopard and safari 4 and a fast cable Internet connection.

NBC just doesn’t have much video and it is pretty lo-res. And the Canadian site doesn’t work with US computers. I know NBC spent way too much money to get the broadcast rights to the Olympics, but they could do a better job. Something like ESPN 360 perhaps. I would have paid a few bucks to have something like that for the olympics.

  • John

    Mike,
I’ve installed Silverlight and the proper Flash viewer on an Intel Mac and Safari and Firefox fail to load the live streams from the ctvolympics site. How did you get it to work?

  • Mike

If your browser is configured to accept third-party cookies, the videos should show up.

    • Susan Hernandez

Sorry, my browser is accepting 3rd party cookies and it still doesn’t work on a Macintosh PBG4 on either Safari or Firefox.

      • Raina

        Same here :(

  • Wayne

For two days I’ve been trying to get their stupid Silverlight video to work. All I see is “The Video is not loading properly.” Other Silverlight sites work fine. NBC really sucks. Why don’t they go with the something else?

  • Marissa

I’ve tried going to other country’s sites, but they use a “geoblocker” that detects where your computer’s MAC address is located, and blocks those outside the country.

The whole thing is so irritating. I don’t have cable either, and I’m hosed. Missing the hockey games is excrutiating.

  • Susan Hernandez

I cannot get their new software to load. Microsoft’s Silverlight program doesn’t seem to install and the procedure to fix the problem doesn’t work either. I’m using a Macintosh. Looks like its YouTube for me.
