Over the years, I’ve had my fun with Matthew Fox’s interpretation of Dr. Read the full post.

I loved last night’s episode and agree about the acting, especially Terry O’Quinn. I was first impressed by his skills when he had a recurring role on Alias. First he was a grumpy NSA agent who gave Sydney Bristow grief around every corner. Then it turned out he was undercover and actually a huge fan of hers (can’t remember all the details, but others will remember). Good stuff!

The show has always been about the characters for me. I’ll admit some of the actors had to develop a little, but all the characters are amazing. I weep repeatedly almost every episode…and I am actually a complete sci-fi geek by nature. If the writing duo start a new project after Lost I don’t care what it is I will watch it.

i could never say which actor was the greatest, they are all so top notch. i’m so invested in all these people’s lives, its almost pathetic haha. but i must say last nights mvp goes to terry oquinn. not only does he consistently nail the tricky sad/pathetic anger of locke, he showed last night that he can do creepy mystery man too. that scene where he turned into the monster and then said sorry you had to see me like that..my jaw was on the ground the whole time! so, so good.

I can imagine what Doc Jensen must be doing with the Schrodinger’s Cat thing–the split realities–and withall, we have the opportunity to see these actors in so many levels of shading. I was very sad at “New Locke’s” opinion of Locke–that he was a sad loser. That may be true, but the viciousness with which he described it was painful.
I am so glad this show is on–and sad that it will last not very much more than 4 months–FOREVER

Glad to see Matthew Fox getting some props, it doesn’t happen often enough. And Terry O’Quinn is just ridiculously phenomenal!

terry o’quinn was amazing last night. amazing. i went from being freaked out by his scary face right before the commercial to feeling such pain and sympathy for him in the new 2004. he better win all the awards.

I have always felt the performances on LOST were its main draw for me. Everyone is so wonderful. Just wonderful, heart-breaking work these actors are doing, they need more credit!

This is one of those shows that make me wish the Emmys had a Best Ensemble or Best Cast award, the way the SAG awards do. Matthew Fox was incredible last night, as was Terry O’Quinn. But so was Josh Holloway, Jorge Garcia (who I usually don’t like), Evangeline Lilly, and Ken Leung. Everyone has stepped up their game this season, and I’m so glad I’m a fan of this wonderful show. I’m just going to enjoy the ride while it’s going on, and I’m going to miss it like crazy when it’s over.

Agree. I was blown away by the premiere. The actors are underappreciated because they’re overshadowed by the most imaginative writers I’ve ever viewed, but I believe it’s one of the greatest ensembles ever.

    TERRY OQUINN NEEDS AN EMMY.

Everything about his performance was awesome – when he was MIB/fake Locke you hate him and when he was sitting on the plane waiting for assistance and then wheeling away you just want to hug him. awesome actor right there.

    • Jason

He has one, but he does need another :)

      • Andrea

Didn’t michael emerson get one too ?

    • bootsycolumbia

I agree, Terry O’Quinn needs another Emmy.

  • Admiral Quality

Agree. The acting was exemplary (even Kate’s!) And *clearly* these weren’t quite the same characters on the plane this time as the first time, so we know, just from subtle cues, that they’ve had different lives. (Take Sawyer for example, still a bad boy… but, I’m only guessing, not a con-man and murderer in this alternate reality.)

Also, apparently haircuts change a lot between alternate universes. ;)

i loved the scene on the plane between boone and locke! it was kind of heart-wrenching how it was tracking the boone/locke relationship on the island. and then remembering the part that locke played in boone’s death. tissues please!!!

I think Jack is a terrible character

    • wino

and thats why we love him…because he is so flawed.

      • Pete

Jack is worse than flawed – he’s inconsistent.

      • murley

but that is the POINT of jack. the reluctant hero. the questioning and lack of confidence and misguided desire to do what’s right leading him to be reactive and thus iconsistent. he suffers from neither following his fate OR making his ow choices and so he ends up failing and losing his way. all the characters are fundamentally flawed in some way and trying to find their own redemption. and that is why matthew fox is so, so good. he embodies those elements and shows jack’s desperation with it all so subtley and effectively.

Some of the best acting I’ve seen on TV since Babylon 5. Well, OK, Damages and The Wire rank up there, too, but Babylon 5 even fits with Lost (mythology, Mira Furlan, science fiction). B5 actors were grossly overlooked for acting awards. At least Emerson and O’Quinn have been recognized and they deserve it.

  • Vivienne

I admit i started watching LOST for Matthew Fox – so hot and he’s my tv husband LOL – but i definitely became obsessed because of Terry o”Quinn & Michael Emerson, Terry is frackin’ amazing, i love seeing him on screen!

  • rose

So happy for the Jack and Locke praise. Their acting did excel during last night’s premiere.

“Jack is now shouldering the greatest amount of guilt, shame, depression, and despair of any character in contemporary broadcast television.”

I totally agree with you but I also add a couple names to the list. Sam and Dean Winchester from Supernatural. They basically are responsible for the apocalypse. Those two are carrying a heavy burden right now…lol

    • Lindsay

Yes, I would say that’s worse. And while we are giving acting credits for “shouldering…guilt, shame, depression, and despair” Jensen Ackles takes the cake.

      • ani

true true. and no one does the shouldering better than jensen and that crazy raspy voice. supernatural and lost: my two favorite shows on tv….and dexter.
