You either are a fan of LOST or you aren’t & don’t watch it. I’ve been a fan since day one when this cleverly written, superbly acted, well directed TV series hit the airwaves. It’s a show that never cheats its audience nor panders to a simple, “pat” story line. Like “X-FILES,” “LOST” will have a place in television series history. I waited 4 yrs. between the last episode of “X-FILES” and first episode of “LOST.” I’m hoping another 4 yrs. later, we will have another special/unique TV series again. I thank everyone connected with “LOST” for giving me such great pleasure & obsession. I will happily be glued to my TV Tuesday nights for every Season 6 episode of “LOST” this year and rooting “the Losties” on!!
The acting was phenomenal, i felt like everyone had stepped up their game in this premiere. Also I don’t think Giacchino’s score gets enough praise. This show wouldn’t be nearly as magical if it weren’t for the absolutely gorgeous soundtrack.
Agreed. Acting aside (and thank you for pointing out Matthew Fox, Ken, because he never gets a lot of credit since his character’s annoying tendencies overshadow him at times), the score for the show is amazing. I can’t believe the same guy is responsible for the music in Up!
Agree wholeheartedly. To me, the mark of a brilliant piece of storytelling (in any medium) is my conviction that the characters are *real.* And these are the most alive, authentic, gripping, sympathetic characters that have ever appeared on television.
Thank you. Don’t give a fancy Q about all the mythology. Jensen’s Lost review was SEVEN pages. C’mon! I skipped it. Thank you for a mythology-free recap and PLEASE keep them coming.
I skipped it too. I tried to get thru the 1st few paragraphs and gave up. It’s just ridiculous.
Just to chime in about Matthew Fox’s performance, I thought he was absolutely brilliant on the premiere. The moment on the plane when we first see him, and he appears to be “thinking about it” was terrific. His character has evolved greatly, though he is under enough pressure early in this season to have some excuse for “reverting to type.” After all, he thinks detonating Jughead didn’t work.
I love this show and agree with your take on the premiere and letting the story just grab you and lead you where it wants. I completely trust the creative geniuses behind this wildly imaginative series & can’t wait to finally see their vision in it’s entirety. I’m securely buckled in with seat and tray in the upright position for the duration of this awesome ride!
Love the props to MF. Note also that Jack “Mopey” Shephard has evolved into something more complex and humble than the egotistical “woe-is-me-leadership-thrust-on-my-willing-inadequate-self” character he was originally – AND in the flash-sideways too! This premiere proved beyond doubt that Emmy needs to add an “ensemble” award named after LOST much as they named new actor nominating rules after Lauren Graham.
P.S. Have loved T O’Q and ME for years, nice they are getting the recognition they’ve long deserved. Now time for everyone else! INCLUDING Evangeline Lilly. Get over it, you Kate-haters.
RE Juliet’s last words (my apology if this has already been mentioned but I haven’t had time to read all the posts). When she said “It worked” – with that peaceful smile on her face – I took that to mean that in the other time line she and Sawyer do meet and connect. (But how can she be totally aware of what is happening in both timelines?)
Ken, I totally agree with you. The premiere was an amazing episode, both for the mythology of the show, as well as the acting. After the scene between Matthew Fox and Terry O’Quinn in the baggage claim at the airport, I was left with a feeling that scenes exactly like that one are the reasons that I will miss this show once it’s over in May. Kudos to all of the creators/producers/writers…and actors for a job very well done over the last 6 seasons.
I hope that Terry and Josh are AT LEAST nominated for an Emmy this year. GREAT performances.
pls do a mythology-free recap every week. Doc Jensen gives me a headache. I love Entertainment Weekly and would love to just come here, read a quick, no nonsense recap and get back to work. Thanks Ken!
Agree that Terry O’Quinn is hitting the leather off the ball…when Bad Locke is revealing his disdain for Locke’s final thoughts…it was chilling!
Great posts here! There is so much to love about “Lost”! You gotta love the characters and all that they are and why; the island for its mystical mysterious powers; the intesnsity of reality of life that the writers rolled into one Series! I have built a great page with lost of Lost theories on myspace. Would love to hear what you all think about it, please let me know.
