Has anyone else noticed that Ken Tucker looks like a sad basset hound?
Sorry, I just don’t buy the “outrage” at the lack of lead in’s to the 11pm NBC local news due to the sinking of Jays 10pm show, I don’t buy that now, with remotes and programming of shows, that people don’t switch networks at the blink of an eye. I regularly watch a different station that my 11pm news show, yet somehow, thru the magic of TV remotes, manage to flip myself to my favored newscast! And, I HATE the NBC affiliate news in the Seattle area, so not like they lost me due to Jays 10pm show!
If Conan would have been good, he WOULD have had the ratings regardless! Lets face it, Letterman gained a huge audience when Conan took over, so, Jays lead in had nothing to do with it, it was a matter that a couple million regular Tonite Show viewers did NOT find Conan up to the task, and used their remotes to switch alliegances to Letterman. Now we can switch back. Which is what put the bug up Lettermans rear, knowing he is going to lose millions in viewers again. I was enjoying Letterman until he got so hateful and mean spirited over this entire thing, so quit watching him early and will wait until March when Jay starts back up again, I don’t need to watch Letterman anymore.
I agree with you about Conan and Letterman. I used to watch Letterman, but he seems like he’s bored off his arse. I’ve switched to Craig Ferguson last year and haven’t look back. If you haven’t watched him…give him a shot…you might enjoy him.
Leno was a bad lead-in for the local news as their ratings dropped. So, That couldn’t have helped Conan to have a weak local lead-in! The “freebird” finale was great- Conan looked like he was having a blast on guitar.
For those who are too young – or were too uninterested, at the time – to recall, it might help to get some background on this story. Read all about how Leno acquired The Tonight Show gig, back in 1993.

We don’t (unfortunately!), get Fergie here in Australia, but do get the rest. Fallon rules!!!
After the nervous start, he’s delivering the funniest, most entertaining show. Jimmy and The Roots, what more could you ask for?
Can’t stand Kimmel, but for one thing… I usually tune in late in case of a good MG -gotta commend the 2 Jimmy’s for giving emerging (or great re-emerging) musical acts a go. Even Kimmel is worth airtime for that!!
From afar, I don’t get why Conan committed on-air suicide. Leno – even here- later seemed too early.
But an hour later for Coco and JF? Big deal! Better still (tho’ too late now), how about a 90 min-2 hr weekly show from Jay, say Sat night before SNL??
They just seem locked in – no lateral thinking at all.

I’m not sure how NBA calculates their ratings but they need to understand that Conan’s audience is a young one and many times they’ll download his shows or watch them on the internet, the reality is that Conan is THE MOST popular tonight show however times are changing and people don’t watch as much TV. I don’t even have cable but I never missed any of his shows.
Have to strongly agree wit those who have acknowledged Craig’s brilliance. His monologues especially are superb, and he does his off the top of his head without cue cards unlike all the others. His wit is unmatched by any of the others. I think guys like Conan & Kimmel appeal to a wider audience, though, with lesser standards, its an IQ thing.
