'Better Off Ted' and American Girl dolls parody: Does it get much better?

Many terrific moments on last night’s typical stupid-ABC-decision-to-burn-off-two-more-episodes-of-Better-Off-Ted:

• Ted telling Phil and Lem, “You guys have more brains than a zombie Thanksgiving”

• Veronica telling Ted that he’s too honest, that taking “the high road leads to Pansytown”

• Phil saying to Lem, with admiration for Ted’s acumen, “We just got teducated

But for me, nothing topped the brief, wonderful moment when rivals Ted and Pete compared notes on their daughters’ “Pioneer Girl” dolls, describing perfectly the American Girl dolls phenomenon:

Can any parent (or child) not relate?

Meanwhile, at the Television Critics Association currently convening in L.A., ABC execs say they haven’t decided on Ted’s future yet. Hey, I think (the already-renewed) The Middle and Cougar Town are just fine, but compared to Ted? ABC needs to get teducated…

Last night’s episodes were typically hilarious… Given how weirdly ABC has (not) promoted this show or aired it in any timeslot that makes sense, I’m actually kind of amazed we’ll have gotten 26 episodes. But still: I want more! It just keeps getting better and better.

Agreed, and for so many of us that work in large corporations, it’s a must watch. But with so many people tuning in to American Idol, ABC should be marketing the heck outta Ted on Tuesdays.

        So funny show

I actually work for a research company and this show is really similar to my work life! I love it! Portia de Rossi does such a good job! It is well written and HYsterical!

I didn’t think it was possible, but this season is even funnier than last. The cast is turning into a finely-tuned musical instrument. When Veronica stopped in mid-sentence, stared into Linda’s eyes and asked, “What’s it like in there?”, I totally lost it.

Me too! Veronica is my hero–Portia does a fantastic job and that line was in my “top 3″ fave lines.

Both eps were great, as usual. Just the fact that Dr. Spaceman gave Victoria a stomach hickey — genius. And that Pioneer Girls scene was the best use of a children’s-book spoiler since Rachel spoiled Little Women for Joey.

      err…Veronica. Coffee…not…working.

I love to see Chris Parnell anywhere, his part was so great!

    ABC please renew this show!

I want a showdown between “bizzaro world” Veronica — that was too weird that she sports the tight blonde bun too! Giving Vero a nemesis would really put her in high gear! Love this show.

Last night’s two episodes were hysterical. Veronica: “Babies, babies, babies”… hilarious! Veronica staring at Linda “what’s it like in there?”… ABC – you have to keep this show!! It’s your best show out there!!!

that was a great episode…made me remember the days back when I read the American Girl Doll books, loved that they made the Pioneer Girls have depressing stories too (but i still think the Meet Kirsten book is the saddest one of the American Girl books-when her friend gets sick on the ship moving from Sweeden to Minnesota!)

    • m.

That brought up so many memories! Remember when they described how Samantha’s parents died? Or when Kit’s father lost his job? I can honestly imagine my dad having Ted and Pete’s conversation with other dads.

      • Sarah

Totally agree! I remember my dad reading the Samantha books to me when I was younger. I loved seeing it from the parent’s perspective and how Ted and Pete so quickly put aside there completion to discuss it. Absolutely hilarious.

      • a person

those two i didn’t read…I read Josiphina, Felicity, Kirsten, and i think one samantha…but i know my dad would never discuss those books with anyone…he hated them!

Just discovered this show recently and love it…. please don’t Arrest the Development of this show ABC!

  • Sarah

what were the phrases Phil and Lem were using? LEMbasted and PHILibustered? Awesome. The entire concept of the misspelled Memo and people actually using offensive language towards each other was hilarious.

    • Mark

“And remember the memo asking employees to CAR POOP”.
And of course, the H.R. director Janet S. Crotum.

      • Kate from Tacoma

oh my gosh, CAR POOP had me literally laughing out loud! And Fribsday being an extra day in 2024 and the HR lady saying she’d wear a denim pantsuit. I love this show.

LOVE THIS SHOW! I continue to see parallels to real life in the women especially, even among the silly. Veronica feels so guilty about getting a promotion over a guy that she dates him? Linda being so overwhelmed by her supervisors that she says inappropriate things? This happens in real life, perhaps on a smaller scale. I don’t know if it is smart women writing this series or in-tune-with-their feminine side men. Either way, it is genius.

  • Doris

I love Better Off Ted, and Portia deserves an Emmy. She is amazing. One question, though: why doesn’t Ted have a clean shave?
Or am I the only one who hates stubble? D**n you, Don Johnson!

    • EvaneSam

I’m SOOOO with you on that. I don’t think there is a greater character than Veronica on TV right now. She’s genious. (Kinda reminds me of Karen from Will & Grace)If Better off Ted was only made up of scenes with Veronica, I don’t think anyone would mind…it would even be funnier. Please God (and ABC) let this show stay on for several seasons.

  • Martha

This show is awesome, especially Portia deRossi and the Phil/Lem super couple. Keep it on the air, ABC!
