There was one glaring omission during the finale.
WHERE WAS THE DALE THE WHALE SUBPLOT?
Aside from that, the solution to the “mystery” was easy to anticipate, but the “will he really die?” storyline did keep me interested.
But Dale the Whale should obviously been included in this one.

I’m just wondering why EW felt it appropriate for a critic who admitted he hadn’t even watched the show for years and obviously doesn’t like the show, review the series finale. Fans of Monk and the show itself deserve better than this.

Monk was wonderful and the finale was way more profound than this reviewer could perceive. Monk always sought closure. And he had it, on the verge of death. And he defeated his biggest demon. That is what this show was about. Even though it didn’t appear on every episode. Lame review. I will definitely miss Monk.

Why would I follow you. Just tell us how the show ended don’t tell us how you hated the show, or for that matter if you like the show. Who cares what you thank that way. Just give us the facts.

  • Trogdor

This show was ridiculous and like every other cop show on the air. Most episodes were the exact same formula over and over with slapstick silliness stuck in. Something happens to Monk, there’s a crime involved now, he finds random tiny things, it was the guy you thought it was the whole time, they have a confrontation, Monk wins. *YAWN* About all you could enjoy of it was the OCD based tweaking out he does. Will I miss Monk? Not in the least.

Also, this reviewer did a fine job reviewing the finale. It’s his opinions and feelings about it. If you want a gleaming 5 star review of how awesome you fanboys/girls think it was, then write it yourself and post it on your blog.

I wasn’t going to post after reading all of the entries–but this last entry by Trogdor (Reeks like a cynic!)can’t be the last and be so negatively written.
Shalhoub did a great job humanizing Adrian Monk, a character that we will all remember for decades to come. I love watching old reruns of Columbo 40 years later just like we will be watching Monk in 2030. Don’t forget that San Francisco played a role in this show as well–I love seeing Monk walk the intersection at bight on the hill above the city with the Trans America in the backdrop.
My secret wish, Monk and Natalie hooking up romantically–her with the Navy boyfriend always seemed to lessen the intelligence of Mr. Monk or cast a shadow on him as if he were challenged in some handicapped way.
Anyhoo, we will see more of him with this type of open ending. The money may bring him back for a reunion movie in a short year or two.
Until then, adieu Mr. Monk, we will miss you on the streets of San Francisco.

If there is ever a reunion, please, please, please bring back Sharona, not Natalie

I am a big fan of Monk..wished they would build up more suspense surrounding Trudy…they should have killed Dale the whale 1st in an episode before those last twoepisodes because Dale knew who the judge… they kinda sucked the writing for the last two episodes. For those suggesting a spin-off Randy and Sharona series, seriously need their brains checked. Randy cant solve squat and Sharona has a temper. Just a real dumb idea!

We are in Saudi Arabia right now but we never missed watching Monk. This is one of our fave shows we watched other than CSI,without a trace, criminal minds and coldcase..hopefully they will start a new season for this..

Good comments people! I also loved the Newhart
finale..Thought the ending of Monk was great but will miss the show. Not sure I would watch a spin-off.

I’m waiting for the 5th season of Doc Martin.

The song starts out “I think you’re going to miss me when I’m gone”….but the end of the song is “I sure am going to miss you when I’m gone.” It’s a mutual miss!

I love Monk what is wrong in todays world. Good clean shows get the axe .unbelievable . Try giving us what we want some of the time .

I loved watching every episode of Monk!! My husband and I both cried while watching the final episode. I think Monk was one of the rare shows you could watch and not have to worry about a lot of “sexual” inuendos like some other weekly/nightly shows. I am sad to know there will no longer be any new episodes of Monk. I loved watching him!

I don’t watch TV much and haven’t seen all the episodes of Monk. The ones I have were not in chronological order, as I travel a lot. I do like crime books, films and in particular Monk, I find it’s characters are quirky and entertaining. I never take a critics point of view seriously, always prefer to watch, read, digest and form my own. It is a shame it’s coming to an end but then as most good things in life always do. Shame that Medium also came to and rather premature end as well,
