Adam Lambert on 'The Early Show' re his AMA performance: 'I did get carried away, it was not what I intended'

Adam Lambert, speaking on CBS’ Early Show this morning, admitted that his American Music Awards performance “got the most of me.”

Lambert said his onstage moves “came from an improvising place… they were not rehearsed.”

“I got carried away,” he said. “It was not what I intended.”  Of the controversy that ensued, he said, with an impish smile, “I have a tendency to divide people.”

Lambert even has a tendency to divide TV networks. He was booked to appear on ABC’s Good Morning America to explain his sexually provocative performance, but GMA disinvited him, releasing this statement to EW: “Given his controversial American Music Awards performance, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.”

That was strange in itself. Did GMA really think Lambert isn’t canny enough to dial it back for a morning-show interview? A ratings miscalculation, methinks. Anyway, CBS and The Early Show got Adam-as-pussycat, not Adam-as-rebel.

Pressed by cohost Maggie Rodriguez as to whether he felt “some responsibility” for the children viewing him in prime time, Lambert was admirably direct: “I’m not a babysitter.”

Granted, there was a certain coyness to Lambert’s Early Show answers. Asked why he didn’t think about children who might have been watching his outrageous performance, he said, “Children — it didn’t enter my mind. Sometimes I forget there’s a camera on. I come from the theater; I look at the audience in front of me, which was filled with adults.”

Really, Adam? Oh, you shrewd little devil: For a guy who seemed to possess an almost supernatural sense of which camera was trained on him during his American Idol performances, this was rather hard to believe.

Asked if he’d do anything differently, Lambert said, “I’d sing a little bit better… it wasn’t my best vocal performance.”

My colleague Michael Slezak, who said much the same thing about Lambert’s AMA vocalizing, will offer his expert opinion on Lambert’s musical performance on The Early Show later this morning, so check back here.

    fake! poser!

    • Donnie

Well I don’t know about “fake”, but he’s definitely an IDIOT – and he proved it when he answered the question about children
“Children – it didn’t enter my mind”

      Moron indeed.

      • Jenny

What ever happen to “PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY”. The TV was inside your home and it was after 10 P.M. on a school night!!!!

      • terri

As a mother myself….what was the children doing up after 10 anyway. and watching a rock music awards show…any child up at that time should have been advised by the parents.. he is right he is not a babysitter

      • Sam

Children really should have been sleeping at nearly 11 pm on a school night. Seriously. The guy is right.

      • RA

Yeah, I’m sorry – if your children are watching the AMAs you get what you get. That’s not Adam’s problem. So it is you who are the idiot (excuse me, IDIOT).

      • _

        RA,

True… Besides the faux bj, the parents subjected their children to his horrible vocals & the sight of him falling over.

        great performer, indeed

      • 1234

If your young kids are watching the AMA at 11pm on a school night then that is your fault. By the way, the lead up to Adam included cursing, partial nudity, sexual moves and violent lyrics — at any time during one of those acts you could have TURNED OFF THE TV if you didn’t want your kids to see it. Give me a break. By the way, I am a parent.

      • canadianfan

        Carole-that is uncalled for. Wow!

      • Ilia

Donnie (whatever your gender, although you sure sound like a little b***h), you are an unfit parent and scapegoating Adam for your own shortcomings is pretty much as low as it gets.

      • john

DVRs. Kids didn’t need to stay up late to watch that performance.

      • Cathy

What parent in their right mind lets young children watch the AMA’s or when J. Jackson grabbed one of the male dancer’s crotch…that was ok.

      • KWise

Seriously – if your kids were still awake at that time AND allowed to watch a show like the AMAs, then I’m sorry parents, but you deserve it. Hey parents: PUT YOUR KIDS TO BED on time. Or, pick up the remote and change the channel if you see something you don’t like.

      • Tonic

And why would it enter his mind? YOUR CHILDREN are not his concern. YOU need to monitor what they watch, not him.

      • Melanie

Oh please!! Any parent who allows their children to watch TV at 11pm on a school night has some serious parenting problems.

      • Melanie

        carole – YOU are disgusting.

      • Donna

Any adult that lets a child stay up that late, never mind watch the AMAs, which by the way, is usually always adult-oriented. HELLO! So if you are a parent letting a child stay up this late and watch that kind of show, you are the ones that should be ashamed. SHAME ON YOU!!

      • cynical

Carole and Donny hmmm your kids must regret having you as parents. Cause you both are idiots.

      • colin

If I had kids, I wouldn’t have let them watch the show. Not because of anything risque, just because I want them to grow up listening to good music.

      • rufh0use

Kids that were up till 10:55 PM on a school night had already seen a nearly naked Rhianna- heard Eminem bragging about rape, and seen both Janet J’s and Lady Gaga’s provocative performances…so get off your high horse Donnie and A) put your kids to bed at a resonable hour and B) stop hiding your narrow-minded prudishness behind a false concern for children.
Why are the ignorant so good at procreating…and nothing else?

      • Staci

Its pathetic when parents use the tv as a babysitter.

      • JA

If you’re so uptight that you don’t want to expose your children to Rock & Roll (this kind of stuff has been going on for decades in case you haven’t noticed – Elivs, Stones, Led Zep) then why are you watching the AMAs with them? It’s embarassing how prudish the US has become when it comes to male performers, but you have nothing to say about scantily clad women using their sexuality over any so-called talent to get ahead in the music industry.

      • I-Man

Adam Lambert is right, he is not responsible for other people’s children, but he knows that young teens and children ARE his fans. So to say “Children – it didn’t enter my mind” is a disservice to their fan loyalty to him. Especially those who defended him staunchly for his performance adn say they loved it. Those are the fans he shouldn’t risk isolating or losing with a comment like that.

      • Allie

i agree. adam isn’t responsible for your kids. young kids shouldn’t even be up at 10:00pm anyway, even preteens. and ultimately it is up to the parents to decide who their kids can look up to and listen to. if they don’t like what adam did in his performance, don’t let your kids listen to him. it’s that simple. and adam is in his late 20′s, not miley cyrus’s age.

      • EBW

What happened to good ole’ television show? Adam Lambert’s performance on AMA was obscene. To compound it he wouldn’t apologize when given the opportunity to so this morning. Just the mere fact that people were offended should have been enough to warrant an apology.

      • Really?

Pretty soon “Us Parents” won’t be able to let our children out of the house. We will have to put blinders on our children in the grocery store.Put cotton in their ears, not take them to the mall with us, put them in private Christian schools or home school because it is impossible to shelter them from inconsiderate people like Adam Lambert who ONLY cares about himself. Of course he didn’t think of the children! Duh. This is just the begining people, the tip of the iceberg to come. This is what will be discussed in your childrens school by their teachers who, by the way, look and act just like Adam. The village NEEDS to PROTECT the innocent children! Start by saying No, I wont support your music or behavior. I wont let you twist my family! We want a wholesome life for our children the children are our future. STAND UP for what is right!

      • Michael

        Really?…

How sad you are. A minute in the public schools could expose a child to more debauchery than 10 hours of Adam Lambert. These are the realities. You teach your children that sex is disgusting and a sin if it isn’t inside the bonds of marriage while your children are running around, screwing everything in sight. Teach your kids about the realities of sex instead of letting the Dummies Guide to Teenage Pregnancy and STDs do the job for you. Adam Lambert has nothing to do with the ills of your children. It starts and ends with the parenting and you apparently want to isolate your children from the realities of the world. Good job!!

      • Really?

Michael. Your clueless LOL you have no Idea what good kids are, let alone where they come from or who their parents are? None of the awesome teens I know would EVER like Adam Lambert. The Teens I know have great parents and role models. It’s kids like YOURS that need OUR help. Maybe you should have your kids hang out with Lambert, but make sure you give them a copy of your parenting book “Dummies Guide to Teenage Pregnancy and STDs” ha ha. You do know the public school system already teaches that. LOL yeah, that’s worked ;)

      • u.s.u.c

For those of you bashing parents, calling people bad parents, or calling them idiots – Maybe it’s YOU who need to get off your high horse. Did it occur to any of you that those of us who have teens or pre-teens didn’t really know what the AMA’s are? There are tons of awards shows and I know I’ve never paid attention to the names of them. I thought if it was on ABC and not MTV or another cable channel, it would be appropriate. And no, I don’t use the t.v. to babysit my kids – we sat down as a family because we learned to love Adam Lambert on another “family” show – American Idol. What Adam did was unexpected and completely off target from what he “sold” all of us on AI. Those performances were exicted and TASTEFUL not TASTELESS! And. . . for those of you who bash parents for keeping kids up to late I’ll say this one more time: in some parts of this country, it broadcast at 9:55 – my kids have late start at school the next day and don’t get up until after 8:00 a.m. (the required 10 hours of sleep). So, be careful who you are name calling. And, finally, one more thing: if you choose to name call at least amp up your repertoire. Here are a few for you (instead of idiot which is so fondly used here): dolt, doofus, ignoramus, dolt, buffoon. Maybe you’ll sound a little more intelligent than us idiots (oh yeah, I have a 150 IQ and a college degree).

      • Riddick

Utterly hilarious u.s.u.c. You didn’t know what the AMAs were, so you decided to let your kids watch them. That’s like saying you don’t really have much personal experience with crystal meth so you let your kids try it. Somehow your 150 IQ didn’t help you out very much with learning to pick up a tv guide. ABC has been showing adult content for years (NYPD Blue??), so I’m not sure how think because it wasn’t on cable that’s a good excuse. Look, if you don’t pay close attention to what your kids watch then you can’t get enraged when they end up watching something inappropriate. You can’t have it both ways. End of story.

      • Shel

Yes, a school night and it was on after 10:00. But he was the American Idol semi-finalist! I certainly could imagine younger teens begging to stay up for instance. I do believe there is a double-standard at play here, but I also think it was entirely too raunchy for TV, period. I wouldn’t want my teens to see that either.

      • Renee

It’s not like Adam waited until the END of the AMA’s to show just what he was going to do. It started at the very beginning. Don’t you people have an “OFF” switch on your TV’s? I find it funny that in this voyeuristic society where people back up traffic to gawk at horrible accidents, that parental responsibility flies out the window so you can get your rocks off watching a performance simply because you really WANT to (that voyeurism again). Then you have the audacity to b**ch about it. Too funny…

Wait a minute…umm are we still in America??? Cause I thought america is home of the free…umm meaning..freedom of speech…u know all that good stuff…Come on guys..THOSE of you who are hating on Adam HATE gays-period..you think it is a disgrace..sickening…just darn right disgusting….yea I know…I WAS just like you BEFORE idol and Adam came along..well guess what people..IM no longer that ignorant person so full of hatred toward gay people. Yes Adam has completely changed my outlook on the gay community. I now see that people who are “gay” are a human being and are so full of love and joy and happiness. ADAM is full of love and happiness AND he has feelings a yes a HEART! Where do we come off putting people down because of WHO they love??? Where do we come off putting people down because of WHAT color they are?? Answer that! We need to stop the HATRED on people and love one another. Ok Brittney and Madonna can kiss on stage but its not ok for Adam to kiss a guy or grab a girls crotch or put a guys face in his crotch. Come on now..you cannot tell me you have NEVER seen worse on t.v…yea right!! Adam is a true performer..GAY or NOT…I love Adam and will stand by him forever!! STOP THE HATE people!!!! This is America!!!!!

      • Coco Cabrera

He’s not a freak, he’s just a gay guy, one million times free and happier that you ever be. Get some proffesional help, you really need it.

    • Stephanie

OK, first off. If parents let there kids stay up, that’s there business. I let my child stay up to watch Adam perform because she admired him so much on American Idol. We even went to see the American Idol concert. And for him to say, “he was in the moment.” Lame ass excuse if you ask me. He performed how many times on American Idol and on the American Idol tour??? Why didn’t he have one of his “in the moment” then?? He is making excuses for the way he acted. We know your gay..no need to fault it. And for people to compare his performance to Rhianna of Janet Jackson…well you must be blind because Adam’s performace was just plain tasteless. And please believe me when I say this, I WAS a huge Adam fan. My opinion is solely based on what I saw!!

    • WHAT A STUPID COMMENT

KIDS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TUCKED IN BED 3 MINS INTO THE SHOW WHEN JANET GRABBED HER DANCERS CROTCH PUSHED HIM ON TO THE FLOOR AND BENT HIM OVER! TALK ABOUT DOUBLE STANDARDS! TWO MEN IS INDESCENT WHILST TWO WOMEN OR A MAN AND A WOMAN ISNT?!

  • Jimmy

There is no such thing as “bad” publicity. Kudos to Adam for being the topic of conversation. Very shrewd indeed. In a few weeks, people won’t remember the controversy, they’ll just remember Adam. And I’ve got no problem with that at all.

    • _

“There is no such thing as bad publicity”.

      Tell that to Lindsay Lohan.

      • Sally in Chicago

        LOL

      • Jonas

In Lindsay’s case it’s bad publicity backed up by continual bad behavior. Adam’s set on CBS this morning was AWESOME so I am willing to cut him some slack for his AMA performance. If his perfromances continued to suck I might be inclined to jump on the “his career is over” bandwagon, but something tells me his AMA performance was a fluke.

      • Belle

LOL! Lindsay’s career is based on bad publicity now. But you are right, what are people talking about? They are talking about Adam’s performance. His manager must be very happy about all the free press he is getting.

    • Liza

      You’re right Jimmy.
Just look at who opened the show.
Miss “I flashed my boob during the Super Bowl”

  • LK

“Oh, you shrewd little devil” haha love it! He kind of looks like Elvis to me mixed with Dr. Frank-N-Furter. I have a slight crush on him even though I’m a straight female and he is a gay male, it happens i guess. But good for him bringing back that showy male entertainer that has been missing since the 70′s/80′s

    • KWise

I have an ENORMOUS crush on him as a straight female. Can’t get enough of him…

  • Colleen

Coy or not, he’s faced the chin music quite well, I think. Still a huge fan and always will be.

    • Oh Really

I’m betting for every consumer allegedly boycotting CBS sponsors there’s at least one consumer boycotting ABC and its sponsors due to the blatant hypocrisy displayed. No problem hyping Adam’s AMA appearance for ratings Sunday night. Pathetic ABC. Kudos to CBS.

    • Jenny

Mika, I deliberately switched to CBS this morning to watch Adam. He is an entertainer not a babysitter. CBS one shrewd move.

      • dj

Even though I was a bit shocked by his performance on the AMAs, and more than a little second-handedly-embarassed because of the fall, I agree with his remark about not being a babysitter. I’m the one who determines what my kids see, and my youngest (9) child had been in bed for two hours by the time Adam performed. My 16 and 14-year-old kids did watch it, and if I regret letting them watch, well then, that’s my problem. CBS was smart to book him, he sang excellently and was on his best behavior. Heh.

      • Marky

The problem with his AMA performance was no one could see it coming (no pun intended) that he would do what he did, so if you had your teens watching what you thought would be an entertaining show, Wow! too late, you can’t do anything about it. Little too late to change the channel, even if you didn’t let them watch the whole thing. And don’t tell me he didn’t think there would be kids watching; that’s just bull. Man-up, Adam–you didn’t care. We have a hard enough time with our teens; with no warning ahead of time, how can we say “no”, unless now we just say “no” to Adam Lambert?

      • Kate

@ Marky The problem with this argument is that if you’re not aware by now that performers on awards shows tend to push the envelope, then sorry, but you’re kind of an idiot. Even if you didn’t know that, the very first act had Janet Jackson fondling a male dancer’s crotch. If you got past that part and genuinely thought, “I’m sure every performance after this will be completely safe and child friendly” then you’re even more of an idiot. And if you don’t mind your kids seeing that (along with all the other adult content that happened on the AMAs this year) but are freaking out over what Adam did, then you are probably a homophobe.

      • Shel

To dj – really? You are willing to take responsibility for letting your teenagers see something that you had no clue would be that raunchy? Half of this board would basically have children watch nothing because they shouldn’t have to have THEIR viewing censored. How about the adults on this board go buy their adult entertainment and support the idea of a common decency for the sake of not-yet-grown among us. (I love Adam Lambert, couldn’t wait to see him, had been unable to watch most of the AMAs before his performance. I do think there is an atrocious double-standard in this country and if, as mentioned above, Janet Jackson fondled a guy’s crotch, the really outrage should be at the complete show and ABC – not just Adam. That said, I was totally shocked at the performance….not because he (gasp) kissed a man on TV, but because it was done in an almost violent way – as was much of the rest of the performance. I was honestly shocked to see it during primetime on ABC.) I think the only real fault of parents here is that there hasn’t been any cries of outrage sooner at the complete sexualization of women in popular music on every music show. I don’t blame Adam for claiming a double standard – he sure is right about that. But it doesn’t mean I think he should get to do what he did…I think everyone needs to take a step back from what has become “standard practice.”

    • Jamal

Very clever, but very stupid. You really don’t have anything to do in your life, do you?

      • Rebuttal

Oh, malarkey, I watched most of the show, and they gave repeated references to the “shocking” performance that was coming up. They even slotted it last, after the last award.
If you’re a parent and didn’t see that coming…and it doesn’t bother you that Eminem was singing about scoring rapes, or when Janet grabs a crotch?
        Hypocrisy check, anyone?
And I say this as someone who didn’t like his performance,

    • yeahright

Hypocrite!! I am sure you have been dreaming about Adam’s AMA performance over and over again. Let yourself go man !!! quit being so repressed.

  • Sam

He was his charming self. And he is one smart and brave guy. Great to see him. Props to CBS and the Early Show. Does ABC think he’s an idiot? Of course he would have dialed it down for morning TV.

    • Paul

Lambert IS an idiot. ABC simply couldn’t trust him not to pull a double-cross during a live morning news show. If anything, Lambert is a craven opportunist. And it doesn’t take props for a network that is consistently looking up at ABC and NBC in the morning ratings to be desperate enough to put this guy on their show. The Early Show needs as many eyeballs as they can scrape up watching them.

      • Mikki

Paul, you make a good point about the Early Show. Being a Today watcher, I deliberately switched to watch Adam. Man, there is no comparison in the quality. Today knows how to do it, the Early Show, not so much…

      • Sam

I think he’s far from being an idiot. He’s shrewd; he’s always said he’s an entertainer and businessman. I truly doubt he would have done anything unexpected on ABC.

      • ()()()()

Ha!! Right on about the Early Show Paul.

    • del

He’s no idiot. On the AMAs he was signing a risque song and his performance related to the lyrics. For the morning appearances, he does different material and a totally different performance.

      • Allie

so del, you think that adam should do the same performance every single time? that would be boring.

    • Tagrid

Sam – yes – it WAS great to see Adam being as charming as usual. THAT is the Adam that ABC missed out on showing – AND the ratings that ABC missed out on too. GOOD! I’m glad CBS got the ratings bump! And it was great to see his band there – and wonderful to see Adam’s Mom there too!

      • RV

Why don’t you step away from the computer for a while? The other prisoners have all been waiting their turn.

      • ()()()()

You,Tagrid my dear nincompoop, need a life!!

  • mary

I loved the performance today, and he was honest as always. Love u Adam!!!

  • ooi (fr Singapore)

Adam was wonderful on CBS The Early Show – ABC’s loss!

Anyway, I love that he stuck to his position – he had NOTHING to apologise! He is a performer performing at a music awards at 10.54pm. Children? Why must he care about whose child is watching his performance? Please… its time PARENTS start parenting again!

LOVE YOU ADAM & keep rocking!

    • Ed

Yes it was 10:54 EST and it was at 9:54 CST and it was 8:54 MST and then it was 7:54 PST. The show was live in all four time zones.

      • Trip

The show was edited for the west coast broadcast.

      • Tagrid

Wrong! And you know it! Why are you telling someone from Singapore a lie? The show did NOT air live in all time zones – it was only in the Central Time Zone that it played an hour earlier. Mountain Time and Pacific Time saw it taped – and what they saw was edited – only EST and CST saw the crotch grind, and I understand that Comcast even blurred out the kiss! There IS a 10 second delay available to them – they could’ve used it, like Comcast did.

      • Shannon

No actually it wasn’t. It was not live on the West coast. They had time to edit his performance. and 9:54pm Central is still too late for children to be awake watching the AMA’s.

      • Billy

Awesome point. That being said though, the AMAs were rated TV14.

      • Shel

I’m starting to wonder what age you all think of when you keep throwing the word “children” around? He was the runner-up on AI with a huge fan base. You don’t think there were young teens allowed to stay up to see him as a “special treat”? GMAB. “Children” aren’t just 7 years old. And in this special children-less universe, where we all get to watch TV all the time, but any child near the box has lousy parents – at what age would you have felt comfortable having your children watch that?

  • Liplocklover

CBS showed Britney & Madonna kiss, but hid Adam kissing Tommy Joe – there you go…. This would mean nothing in Europe, and is horribly biased against males & gays! Rock on Adam – you are already iconic, and will thrive in spite of this unfairness.

    • Tagrid

Actually it was MTV that showed the Madonna/Britney kiss – and the American Music Award show was on ABC, not CBS. And ABC didn’t block out Adam kissing Tommy, only Comcast Cable blurred it.

      • Shannon

yea it was MTV who showed Britney and Madonna. But i’m pretty sure the photo was shown everywhere without being blurred. So why does Adam’s kiss have to be blurred? Oh right, because he’s a gay man. And CBS blurred out his kiss this morning on the Early Show.

      • Mike

Actually you are wrong and Liplocklover is correct. On the CBS interview today, they showed the footage of the girl on girl kiss, but blurred out the boy on boy kiss. Adam is right – complete double standard. He was AWESOME this morning!

  • Paul

This freak still doesn’t get it. It wasn’t near 11pm in the midwest, mountain or west time zones. Lambert’s shortcomings were exposed for everyone to see. He didn’t have enough confidence in his music, so he went the shock route. It was vulgar deluxe and only his apologists don’t see it.

    • Cat

The only time zone where it was not broadcast at 10:55 was Central, where it was on at 9:55. Crime dramas that air from 9-10 have explicit material all the time. Parents should be keeping an eye on anything their kids are watching that late.

      • Melanie

Actually, Flash Forward on ABC airs in the 8 o’clock hour and has shown people being mowed down with machine guns – but I guess that violence isn’t a threat to children’s fragile psyches.

    • talkin’

      Guess what? Nobody’s apologizing! :)

    • RA

Paul, I do believe you speak from your ass.

    • Ilia

Hey, closet-case get a grip on your bigoted christian self and stop yapping bull-****. The only thing he exposed that infamous night on the AMA’s was how truly intolerant the conservatives are in this country. Live and let live; nobody is forcing his music down your epiglottis, if what he stands for offends your narrow mind, move te f*** along, please!

    • Cathy

Again….Janet Jackson grabbed one of her dancers crotch…..Kate Hudson fell out of her dress….Lady GaGa wore almost a see through outfit….her routine was not sex…it was suicide….eminem had to have half of his song bleeped out. Most of the other female singers writhed their way around the stage. The AMA’s are not meant for children no matter what time they are on.

    • Jenny

Paul, Apparently, lullaby songs are the only music you are familiar with. His new CD has been on the top 10 list on iTunes and Amazon for WEEKS. Music lovers are investing in Adam.

Jenny, Just because an album is on the top 10 list on Itunes and amazon does not make the album good. It just means the artist has rabid (and in this case tone-deaf) fans. Don’t delude yourself into thinking that sales=talent, cause it sure as hell doesn’t, because somehow, every year we get bombarded with these mediocre artists who are horrible singers but somehow manage to sell thousands of records because of their hard-core fans who will buy anything with the artists name on it. I am a HUGE music lover and would never buy this trash even if it was in the discount bin for a dollar. In my opinion, Glambert is just an entertainer, not a true musician.

      • Tagrid

me2 – clearly you have NO IDEA what you’re talking about. Adam is a phenominal, professionally trained singer – one of the few counter-tenors alive, and has a 4 octave range. His breath control is amazing, and he can sing in any genre. Try going to youtube and searching his pre-idol performances, such as Brigadoon and at the Upright Cabaret and “Is Anybody Listening.” Educate yourself before you speak without knowing.

      • me2

Tagrid- Clearly, my post was directed towards you- the tone deaf super-fans. I have no desire to go and listen to his terrible performances before Idol- his Idol and this AMA performance, with all the screaming and screeching was an assault on my ear drums. Trust me when I say that I have heard what he has to offer, which isn’t much. There are far superior artist then Glambert- everyone needs to stop hailing him as the next best thing- he is So far from it. Oh, and Tagrid, you need to get your head out of your @ss… You just need to educate youself on actual good music.

  • Joel

The dude is terrible…..but so was that Allen kid. I still cant believe that America supports these American Idol kids so much. The music industry is deader than dead.

    • mick

Considering the crap elesewhere – as in everyone else on AMA – Adam is much more talented. His performance sucked. It happens to new artists. But the other crap they made me watch for almost three hours was unadulterated image-heavy mediocre drivel. There is a reason old bands are still playing like The Who. All pop music sucks and always has. Nothing to do with talent.

      • JB

        That reason: straight cash, homey.

    • ()()()()

OK, seriously now Tagrid, you REALLY do need to GET A LIFE!!!!!!!

      • Uphill

        This IS Tagrid’s life.

  • Jill

He was his usual charming and open self – and the performance was amazing!

  • Ellen

Good for him for standing up for himself. The AMAs started with Janet grabbing a guys crotch and segued into rappers glorifying rape and murder, but this was a “family show” until Adam did some suggestive moves? Please. I’d rather explain oral sex to a child than why rape is something to brag about. Either object to the whole show (and turn it off before Adam sings) or accept Adam as part of it. But singling him out is hypocrisy.

    • Allie

Thank you!!! I couldn’t agree more.

Oh well, I guess you have to be a hot blond chick to get away with lip locking during a performance. Another testament to the hypocrisy of viewers!

    • Mikki

Good point Ellen. Like Adam said this morning on the ES, there was a lot of ‘adult content’ on the show.

    • Lisa Simpson

I agree, Ellen. I didn’t watch the show (I tend not to watch music award shows), but anyone who would expect a music awards show to be family friendly is incredibly naive. Not everything has to be geared for kids, and parents need to realize that they are responsible for their children.

    • mick

I agree the whole show was crap. But that being said Adam was the headliner and the finale and was put in that spot so we would have to watch all the other losers first. Imagine the let down. That’s why he’s being singled out. False advertising. Idol would never have let this moron to an all-gay indulgent tripe filled screech fest. Adam is a fake person.

      • Tagrid

LOL – and you’re an IDIOT! True that he was put on last to keep viewers watching – because they were ONLY watching to see Adam! If he’d gone on earlier – as soon as he finished 90% of the audience would’ve stopped watching. Adam’s performance, with all its faults, was the most exciting part of the show – because the rest of it was SO BORING!

      • wsm

I agree with you. He’s a fake loser. After the performance he said he had nothing to apologize about. He was just expressing himself artistically. Now he’s trying to backtrack to save his sorry ass. What was up with him flipping the bird to the audience at then end of his performance. He’s saying ‘F You’ to the audience and people that voted for him. No thanks loser!

    • Anita

I’m so with you Ellen. Shakira does the equivalent of a pole dance and no one gives a peep! Adam kisses a guy and everyone’s ready to throw him to the wolves! Grow up and enter the 21st century people!

    • strickens_girl

Agreed. Madonna’s been kissing girls on national TV for ages. It’s okay if it’s two girls but not two guys? How lame.

      • Expo

Two girls kissing each other is also offensive. Unless they’re attractive. Then it’s just hot.

  • Jamie

    Hey Paul? STFU STFD.

I liked his performance. Sorry that you’re such an idiot you can’t find the off button.

    • Sam

      Paul sounds angry.

    • Dan

Hey Jamie? We get it, you wish it was your head bobbing in front of his crotch on stage. Doesn’t change the fact that the guy is a completely fake fame wh*re who doesn’t care who he offends.

      • Ilia

If he offends people like you, excellent, mission accomplished! Artistic prudes like you are becoming more and more irrelevant, you are now the minority and that’s what chafes your quads.
        ;0)

      • To Ilia

You sound like the tools I saw in college who would all dress up in exactly the same clothes, paint their hair the same shade of blue, listen to the same music and then spend their days congratulating themselves on how non-conformist they were.

      • To Ilia

You sound like those tools I saw in college who would all dye their hair the same shade of blue, wear the same outlandish clothes, listen to the same music and then spend their days complementing each other on how “original” and “non-conformist” they were.

  • Leigh

Well, How about when Janet let her boob pop out at a Nation wide Event with Children AT THE GAME!!! No one “disinvited” her because they thought she would flash in her interview!!! Kudos Adam! you’re a winner in my book!

    • freddy

uhh Janet did NOT let her boob pop out on purpose – you drone

      • Mike

freddy — you know that your point is debatable, right? People are divided over whether that was an accident or a deliberate stunt.

      • Marc

lol right cause most people wear a metal plate covering their nipple under their clothes…. I mean come on lol the music industry is about buzz and scandal that’s what sells… sorry but them’s the breaks kid..

      • A

of course she did – come on.
