Firstly -GH is not following the Sopranos – if anything the Soprano’s would be a spin off of Goodfellas – Sonny & Jason were around long beforehand. Secondly – for a daytime soap each- GH has always marched to their own tune -and always had a mob setting. as a newbie to the soap scene – you obviously are a fan of films – and Franco’s…Do not delude yourself into thinking by watching a few shows that you are qualified to critique’ GH or the loyal fans that tune in daily, like me who has been watching since 1978. Daytime is similar to night-time in one way – the actors work less hours and are not under the same pressures as a soap actor with the daily grind of memorizing lines. Matter of fact several GH actors have successfully crossed-over to film or weekly episode TV. Fans of GH (and other soaps) will sometimes follow certain actors they admire to other shows. The actors on soaps learn to hone their craft and if they are lacking in talent do not last long in the arena of daytime – nor do storylines that don’t click with critical fans. As for producers, directors and writers of these shows -they too know their craft and understand their audiences – to produce a daytime show and succeed it must be very well organized effort on the part of each and every one of them. As for Lisa – she is one talented lady – She’s on the mark every day-she’s beautiful and she made the character of Olivia her own – a classy, street smart lady from Brooklyn who is hiding a bombshell secret from Sonny. The fans of GH watch daily for a reason…They love the characters and the actors that portray them -It is our hour of drama – 5 days a week and we enjoy the ongoing escapades of their secret lives and watch to see who the next love to hate character will sneak in to cause trouble in their lives. I love edge of my seat great films just like the next gal – but they always end…hopefully the suspense, laughter and tears GH offers never will.
I don’t know why I am on this stupid message board thing. it’s so dumb you people are just bashing actors/actresses for no reason. None of them suck and you people have all been giving poor Lisa crap since she came to General Hospital and she isnt bad at all! And now im reading how people are saying Brandon is a bad actor? yeah okay, maybe you need to watch better! and this review is so dumb it’s just a review by someone who watched the show just for James Franco. Which by the way I am not a fan of. I’m not excited about him at all. To be honest I don’t know why i am even still watching General Hospital, it’s so blah. I’ve been pretty damn bitter about it since they killed off Claudia.
I agree with most of what is said that the mob crap sucks. That is why i DVR the show and push the FF button until i get to Dominic Zamprogna. He is the ONLY good actor on that show other then James Franco.
Get a life folks. It’s a soap opera—not real life. If you want shows all about good guys try re-runs of Little House on the Prairie or The Waltons.
Is this show about a hospital? well seeing as how the whole Quartermaine family and Cassidine for that matter have a stake in it for personal or financial reasons I would say yes. Is it the only part of the show? No. As for Olivia her character is a spinoff of Jax in my opinion. And as for everyone getting offended about “liars” and “wh*res” on a soap or any other form of media is a very simple person. It’s a soap opera. There are few good or bad people. Just a whole lot of grey. Olivia’s story line did annoy me as the Jason/Franco storyline is so entertaining to me. Infact ever since Sonny outted Claudia in the best performance I’ve seen in a while I have been glued. The writers have done good in my humble opinion and I hope the keep it up. In a final note I’m glad that GH has provide a different soap experience.
Oh and just to add a side note. I think that “New Lucky” and Dante are excellent cops oppossing Sonny. The old lucky I loved but in recent times was starting to annoy me. I think GH touches on plenty of very difficult sudjects to capture.
I so love reading the comments from people who defend the drivel this show has put on the last few years because of their obsession with actors who mumble through their lines.
I was thinking that maybe James Franco will turn out to be Jasons brother. Remember Jason is not monicas son, so maybe Jaasons real mother had another son with someone else. Hey just a thought.
Interesting reading your take on GH.
Unfortunately the hospital has taken a serious back seat to all things mob. Why there can’t be a balance is beyond me.
And you nailed the Olivia character as well. Her scenes are either mind-numbingly boring or cringe-worthy. It’s sad the number of characters that could be featured instead of having to endure her one-note acting day in and day out. Kate, Alexis, Diane, Tracy, just to name a few, all far more interesting characters played by far more talented actors.
Honestly……………….no one gives a crap about your opinion Ken Tucker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
