I think the show has a lot of potential, but little chance of making it. After the first 4 shows, will anybody care when the next episode doesnt air until after the olympics in February?
I agree, the son pining over the V, meh.
Can someone tell me- is V suposed to be a mini series like the original, or an actual ongoing series?
“V” lost me for good after two episodes. Even “FlashForward” took four before I jettisoned it.
Everybody is trying to be the next “Lost,” and really they’re just proving how freaking hard that kind of show is to pull off.
Um,”V” isn’t trying to be the next lost. They are trying to be the new “V”. It came way before Lost was even a gleam in a producers eye.
I kind of have to agree with Ken on this one. That’s the only subplot right now that I’m not interested in. At first, I thought it would be fine. It gave Tyler more reason to want to befriend the V’s. But last week’s episode, when he got into a fight with some kid, and Lisa was all upset over it, it was all just very lame. Like something out of a teenage soap opera. We don’t need that in V. This subplot could have worked if they executed it properly. But I don’t think they did. They either need to make the subplot more interesting, or get rid of it altogether and find something better for the characters. Plus, Tyler seems very one-dimensional. They need to make him more interesting if they want viewers to care about him at all. Because right now, I don’t.
I agree completely, while this show did not meet my expectations and is actually a little underwhelming, I plan to keep watching it for the time being, but this is easily the weakest part of the show.
wow 2 eps and your headline is “losing steam already” – really
again you cant stop reviewing jon and Kate but a really compelling new scripted show you are already leading viewers to condem. You are a tv critic, right?
It’s not the subplots, though that kid is probably the weakest actor on the show. It’s that this show (and to an extent, FlashForward) suffer from lack of an ability to build tension. On V, it was like, boom they’re here and oh, “We’re of peace, always.” and now we’ve got paranoid resistance fighters. Even the old series gave an hour before we really started to feel that the aliens were somehow sinister. The problem with V is that going in we know they’re bad. You can’t build suspense that way when you already know what the outcome is.
Right on Rush…the new V needs to deviate dramatically away from the old one for there to be any sense of suspense or mystery. Fundamentally so far, they are just re-telling a story that has already been told – and, probably fatally, not doing it as well, even with the benefit of much more modern special effects and a bigger budget.
I think what this series needs is better directing. Do the crazy camera angles bother anyone else? Shooting from people’s knees does not make what they are saying any more interesting.
Completely agree. Dump Tyler, Lisa, and his friend Brandon while you are at it.
Concentrate on some of the interesting but underused adults around: I suspect that Father Travis is a creepy visitor and BSG’s Tory in the FBI office is also a visitor. The kids are just a silly useless subplot. It is going to be a short lived series anyway, why bother with anyone who can’t make a difference?
I agree I want action not to be loved or not lame
I thought the original was better. The original writers had the Vs stringing the humans along for a while by their do-gooding acts. The writers actually committed to that development of the characters.
It was a slower emotional and psychological manipulation of the humans by the Vs, which brought a depth to the original that the new series doesn’t have (yet?). The story moves so fast that the writers are forgetting to tell the story. The original had the humans very slowly realizing that the most of the Vs were bad. I’m feeling kind of cheated.
Too obvious of a plot device. It either needs a surprise payoff or be eliminated
Lisa’s too hot to let go. Keep her in the show.
It’s hard to argue with this point! In the mess that is V, Lisa is far from the weakest link, and adds a bit of “eye candy” to the show.
I agree with the article. Tyler needs to be tomorrow’s dinner for the lizardly inclined.
Totally agree. So many problems with the show already. Agree there should have been a bigger build up to the Vs even arriving. Several WTF moments. If the Vs can’t leave their ‘area’ how are they flying to dark alleys in the middle of the night? No one is watching them? They can fly across the universe, but can’t put decent photography on their probes? The 911 call? If they were intercepting 911 calls around the area then they would have know where it was coming from automatically. Why did he trace it, or are they intercepting all 911 calls? With one operator. And no one at the real 911 dispatch is wondering why no one is callng. Kid out all night and, oh, I don’t know, maybe tell him to go to school instead of get some sleep. Holes, holes, holes.
