Sarah Palin launched her media tour to promote this week’s release of her book Going Rogue: An American Life by telling Oprah Winfrey that when she first heard of her daughter Bristol’s pregnancy, “Were we giddy-happy to be grandparents? No.” She said she “rewrote” the McCain campaign’s press release about that subject, but that she was overruled. This “annoyed” her, as did the McCain staff’s “makeover” of her and her family right down to the clothes they wore and the food Palin was advised to eat.
On the spotlight placed on her family: “I was naive to think the media would leave my kids alone.” She said Barack Obama enjoyed a “double-standard” in that regard, implying his family was left alone.
Oprah showed home-movie-quality film of Palin going to a gym work-out at home in Alaska, and preparing for Halloween with her children. In a voiceover, Palin said, “It’s nice not to be handled, if you will” — boy, does that McCain campaign still rankle her.
Over the course of the hour, Palin was coy regarding the vetting she received by the McCain staff: “I thought the only skeleton in my closet was that I got a ‘D’ in a college course.”
She was frank: “The economy tanked under a Republican administration and unfortunately for our ticket, we represented the status quo [at a time] when people wanted change.”
And she was withering and self-righteous on the subject of Levi Johnston: “I hear he goes by the name ‘Ricky Hollywood,’” she said sarcastically, but turned serious in referring to his current “media tour” as “aspiring porn,” and that he hasn’t seen his son Tripp “in quite a while.” By contrast, Palin said her 19 year-old daughter Bristol “has Tripp 24/7.”
Regarding her famous Katie Couric interview in which a clip showed her unable or unwilling to name a single newspaper she read, Palin told Oprah, “By the time she [asked that], I was already so annoyed… There were hours of tape that were shot… and I felt that no matter what I say, it will be twisted.”
Palin also referred to Couric as “the perky one… with all due respect.” Huh?
Asked whether she has plans to run for President in 2012, Palin deflected the question by saying her son Trig would “be entering kindergarten” then.
Oprah than said, “Would you even tell me if you were?”
Palin fixed Oprah with a steely gaze and smile. “No, I wouldn’t,” she said.
The Palinpalooza continues tomorrow morning, with Barbara Walters grilling the author on Good Morning America.

She may not “want to sit down and shut up”, but the rest of us would appreciate that.
Agreed!
Nobody cares anymore. She’s irrelevant, hypocritical, and rather uneducated. Please, go away.
Say the people that took time to read the post and then commented on it…That’ll show her!
Palin’s a joke, if she’s thinking Pres at any time. Anyone who thinks she’s qualified in any way needs to have their head examined
And you guys think obamas policies and Harvard education are working for us? You need to have your head examined! You wait…The disaster this administration is making is COMING! And he won’t e able to blame it on anyone but himself….No one will buy his inherited crap then.
It was nice to see someone who can talk articulately with out a TelePrompter and not misuse words like “inhalator” but I in fairness realize having been the Governor of Alaska gives her an unfair advantage in know how many states there are.
Lets face it.. Obama may be prettier than Bush, but off the Teleprompter he is not any more articulate.
In response to a previous response…I love Sarah Palin and find her to be a breath of fresh air. I would love to see her run for president. I guess according to “some” I need to have my head examined…well examine away!!!!!!!
Uh, we have a community organizer for Pres. Yeah I’d say she will be more than qualified by then and still better qualified than he is.
looks/sounds more like a cartoon than previously
I’ve been watching Oprah since her show started. She slipped several times and showed how much tougher she can be when someone is not an Obama Drone! How sad, Oprah had a chance to give journalists a boost since so many folks find them so distasteful!
I see people driving around my town with “Sarah!” and “Palin 2012″ bumper stickers all the time. I can’t wait to move.
If people (including EW) would leave Palin, Gosslin, and Prejean alone (that is, not report anything about them), they would quickly fade into obscurity. And that would be awesome.
I couldn’t agree with this MORE!! Please…who really wants to read about these media whores???
Apparently YOU DO. cause you defintely choose to click the little sidebar on this SARAH PALIN story….Sarah Palin did indeed face a complete double standard during her run as VP. Her family was the bud of everyone’s jokes even David Letterman, her PERSONAL EMAILS were hijacked, her appearance was compared to a pornstar (really?!), and even after the campaign she was continually attacked and having lawsuit upon lawsuit filed that even when she wasn’t in the wrong still had to pay for a lawyer to continually represent her. Sarah Palin did a great job as a running mate. especially with all of the ridulous opposition she faced.
Sarah Palin needs to go away! She has had virtually everything coming to her. Come on now. She is fake and full of it. Keep it real. Something Palin supporters have a problem doing! Lord knows we can go and on about her.
BTW Natalie–it’s “she was the butt of everyone’s jokes”, not the bud. That cactus is far from a bud…
Natalie, her emails weren’t “hijacked”. She was using a general email program for State emails (which is very much against the rules) in an attempt to shield them from the open records act. She has to retain a lawyer in regards to the “lawsuit upon lawsuit” because she WAS in the wrong (i.e., repayment to the State for travel expenses). Those citizens had every right to expect more from their governor. Now Palin is on a media tour to rewrite history. Already their are dozens of documented inaccuracies in her book (www.factcheck.com) and it is becoming more than apparent she had no regard for the truth- and THAT is very scary for one you would consider to be President.
Yes, because the former vice presidential nominee is on the same level as a couple with 8 kids and a reality show and a ex-beauty queen.
pretty much
Umm, actually, that particular VP nominee IS on the same level as “reality” show nimrods. And she is an ex beauty queen.
lol, sadly, yes.
I’d say yeah, that’s about right
Yes, all three are pretty much the same – sad but true.
Palin has no understanding about domestic or international concerns. She preaches about family values and abstinence. However, look at her daughter. Don’t attack her children?! She is living in denial!
I’m annoyed with Sarah Palin. Make her go away.
nope
You’re all a bunch of liberals. Go Sarah!
I’m not pro-liberal. I’m just anti-stupidity and pro-grammar.
Hows Obama world treating you? Sometimes it takes an “average person” to understand common sense issues. I think Obama would have made a better actor than president. At least Sarah Palin is real.
Sarah Palin is as fake and dishonest as they come. Even all that hunting she does turned out to be completely a lie. There is nothing real about her.
rachel- maybe you should have watched the interview. that was addressed.
watching this interview gave me many answers i’ve been looking for and redeemed my opinion of Palin quite a bit. i liked that she was willing to admit that she was not perfect, and i LOVED that Oprah gave her the chance to explain everything. this also redeemed Oprah quite a bit in my book. all around, great show.
Yeah, it is shocking how well she can do when she has had the most part of a year to come up with her responses to all of these questions. Which were all so obvious she would have to be a complete fool to not have prepared for.
Palin showed that she could not think quickly when the questions aren’t pre-planned and the answers are not vetted by a team of PR people and professional writers.
Obama’s world…I think you mean the Bush’s post-apocalyptic remnants of a world, that Obama and his administration has to try and repair. Obama is not the reason we are in the state that we are…that would be the previous administrations 8 destructive years and war.
There is nothing “real” about her. She lied – and clearly lied – her whole way through that interview. Does anyone believe that she is inviting Levi to Thanksgiving dinner? It’s Katie Couric’s fault she doesn’t read? The only Palin kid I heard about is the one who got knocked up – which was news because of Palin’s stance on such things, so to compare Bristol to the Obama kids is ridiculous.
Hey Adam, Obama’s world is treating me just fine. The economy is slowing improving (because did you really think it would take just a couple of months to fix–no one promised that), the world is happy to deal with us again because we are articulate and respectful and look at your stocks 1 year from Obama’s inauguration–bet they’re much better than they were January 09, before the darkness ended. Reagan put this country into a tailspin an GW did it again & yet so many of you think those were “good times”. Delusional!
And a President saying that a policeman “acted stupidly” without having the facts is good grammar to you?
I’ve been watching Oprah since her show started. She slipped several times and showed how much tougher she can be when someone is not an Obama Drone! How sad, Oprah had a chance to give journalists a boost since so many folks find them so dishonest.
Please tell us how ‘Obama’s World’ has had any negative effect on you?
Yeah, Sarah Palin is real… stupid. Does Sarah appeal to you because her IQ is on the same level as yours? Can’t handle an intelligent president? Need a bimbo instead? MMk then.
proper grammar is for tools!
“You’re all a bunch of liberals” Is that all you can come up with? That’s the equivalent of “It’s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve”. The standard dumb response of the feeble minded.
My conservative friends are completely embarrassed by Palin and don’t support her.
Of course they don’t, because the woman is clearly an idiot and supporting her merely because she is a fellow Republican is just as idiotic.
I come from a family of conservatives. My non-scientific poll shows the anti-Palin sentiment running about 10 to 1 in a decisively red state.
Thank you! I appreciate the compliment.
I understand the need to promote her book which which maybe at best a commercial success, but it is not filled with much substance. However, for someone who claims to not want media attention, she seem to gravitate toward it at every opportunity. She seems to never have anything of substance to say except for the updates regarding her family. When asked during her interview with Oprah about the state of her marriage, she spoke about daily activities that need doing and nothing about how she and the “first dude” love each other. But I guess in politics, “what’s love got to do with it.”
Thanks AJ for stating everything I was thinking. I also wanted to tell John that I am one of those people that wish she would go away but do continue to read the posts about her. Not sure what that means.
AJ, how much of the book have you read? How do you know that “it is not filled with much substance.”?
AP posted a partial list of the lies in the book, things that could be easily checked and proven wrong – quite amusing.
“The Palinpalooza continues tomorrow morning, with Barbara Walters grilling the author on Good Morning America.”
A grilling on GMA -plueeeeeeze. She hasn’t had to answer a good question since the election season. It will just be a puff piece for a marshmellow person.
she’s so stupid….she’s scary
Ken Tucker is a retard.
Seriously? That’s your comment, TiredOfIgnorance?
That’s what he wrote, isn’t it?
I was anti-Palin during the election season and through when she resigned from her governorship. Honestly, the interview opened Palin up and she was allowed to speak candidly and truthfully about herself. I feel like if the McCain team and the media had allowed her to be herself initially, most haters wouldn’t exist. The interview definitely changed my opinion of her, and she is an interesting woman.
ok but then why would she let the McCain team violate her values and judgements?
And you’re a tight ass, Republican with no aspirations than moving from your couch to your refrigerator to keep fattening yourself up!
Wow, Jane, you swallow whatever’s put in front of you, don’t you? You must be very popular with the boys.
Palin is right – Katie Couric is perpetually ‘perky.’ The campaign managers mismanaged Palin horribly. She could have energized real Americans – by that I mean Americans who live in ‘fly-over’ country, had to work their way through college and take more than four years, and didn’t go to, gasp!, Ivy League schools. Sarah Palin became something politically without the help of an old-boy network or currying favor with the liberal left media. And that drove mainstream media crazy.
Are you implying that the people in the coastal states aren’t real Americans?
I always crack up when people don’t call Americans who live on the coasts real Americans. Most Americans live near the west/east coast.
I live in Iowa and most people here recognize her as the phony she is. Having said that, I think that attacking her kids was wrong, but I also think that however wrong it might be, that is something to be expected. How could she have not known? Even if she did, how could she explain that her actions since the election loss have been helpful? I am not in Govt politics, but I work in a school with politics and you have to watch what you do and everything you say. Anybody with common sense could have handled this situation better.
Or that everyone who supports the president went to Ivy League schools? Cause wow, if you think that, you are reallllly deluding yourself.
Palin didn’t work her way through college. And it took her 6 years to graduate because she kept randomly transferring. And also because she’s not that bright. But hey, if that’s what you choose to look up to, go for it. Kinda sad that you can’t set your goals a little higher than that though.
I live int he midwest, in a rural area, and am horribly offended that this woman is associated with people like me. She is stupid and a liar. A hypocrite of the first order for certain and would love it if everyone would stop comparing her to everyday Americans. I do not know a single person as horrible as she is.
She is not stupid; rather she came across intelligent and honest. Go Sarah, you did a fine job! You just cannot please everyone!
Unfortunately, most of what she says is untrue (but please feel free to believe what you want if it makes you feel better).
What’s scary for me is that the Palin on the campaign trail was her on a leash…I do not want to see or meet the real Palin.
Well at least we know she can please 28% of people.
Three seconds in and I stopped the clip. The fact that she couldn’t remember the names of newspapers in Alaska should prove that this broad should have nothing to do with journalism!
If you had actually listened to the interview, you would’ve seen why she didn’t name-drop media outlets.
Either way, it would have been nice to hear that when the original comment was made, not when she’s trying to make herself look good so the public will buy her book.
Oh, shut up! She is stupid! Therefore, you must be stupid to believe in her in any form!
Yeah, but it was a stupid reason.
The interview changed my opinion of her. Maybe she can make a greater contribution elsewhere…
I wouldn’t want her to be my president but her skills and ambitions are admirable.
well said!
Give the lady a break! She was right in some regards.. a lot of media sources conveniently don’t acknowledge that her family was put under the microscope while Obama’s was not. You don’t have to listen/watch.. geez get lives people!
Not sure what would there be to put under the Obama microscope that hadn’t already been–Reverend Wright, parental influences, and college connections. It wasn’t Obama’s kids that were spotlighted. Why would they be?
afterall they were cute young kids~
I’m sorry. Excuse me. Did you just say that Barack Obama’s family was not put under the microscope? I think half the work hours in America at one point were dedicated to examining details of his birth, childhood, parents, grandparents, siblings, marriage, in-laws… the fact that they didn’t turn up as much dirt as you’d like doesn’t mean they didn’t examine him. It just means they didn’t find as much dirt as you’d like.
I’m thinking what Anna means is that Obama’s children were not put under microscope as much as Palin’s were. For the record, I believe that’s true – but it’s apples and oranges, as Obama’s children are much younger and could scarcely be involved in scandal if they tried, while Palin had a pregnant teenage daughter. A more interesting comparison would be the amount of media scrutiny thrust upon Joe Biden’s children, compared to that of Sarah Palin’s, as their parents were the ones running for vice president. Regardless of your political affiliation, I don’t think you can deny that Sarah Palin’s children, Bristol in particular, suffered more negative media scrutiny than any of the other candidates. However, this scrutiny is most likely circumstantial.
And ps: Interesting comments Gene, I agree!
She’s unqualified. Inarticulate. Blameshifts constantly. And constantly quits. That she remains on the national radar depresses me. We’re far too tolerant of intentional idiocy.
Well said. I totally agree with you Larr.
Sarah Palin has done nothing ,in my estimation, to further ready herself for another political run. She is only rehashing the mockery she made of herself, the office of VP and Alaska’s voting public. Perhaps she should hook up with Kate Gosselin, Octo Mom, or whomever else insists on making their lives work fodder for gossip mongers. She has nothing to offer this country or it’s people.
It used to be Policitians and movie stars would right books years after the events. Now, Poof, the book is out in 3-6 months.
Maybe if you actually spelled “write” right, people might take you seriously. As it is, maybe you should go back to school to learn how to spell before casting aspersions on other people obviously more intelligent then you.
Hey, Nobody? On the subject of spelling, it is ‘than’ not ‘then’.
Maybe, had you corrected her by saying “Maybe, if you had spelled ‘write’ CORRECTLY… etc…”, you would have sounded like an educated person who realizes the need for proper language. Please stop before you replace idiotic language with simple-minded language.
Ones spelling is not a proper or accurate indicator or intelligence.
In other words, your an idiot for harping on spelling and assuming that means Sarah Palin is more intelligent. The woman is about as smart as my 2 year old
Uh, Nobody—Maybe if you had actually used “than” and not “then” people might take you seriously. As it is, maybe you should go back to school and learn grammar before casting aspersions on other people obviously just as intelligent as you.
A “double-standard” about leaving her kids alone versus Obama’s kids? If Obama’s daughters were old enough and went through something Palin’s daughter went through, I’m sure there would be just as much attention given. What salacious details does she expect the media to focus on with Obama’s family?
Agreed. If a “Bristol Obama” existed, the press would be all over it as well. And, Fox News suddenly wouldn’t have been so understanding. Michelle Obama was called a “baby mama” by them — what they would call the daughter?
of palin’s five children, only one, bristol, was very scrutinized. and she was seventeen, pregnant, and engaged. her others, including the ones near the obama children’s ages, were left pretty much alone. it all has to do with the age of the children. sixteen and under usually are left alone, any older is fair game. just ask bridget mccain, who was rarely mentioned in 2000 but whose adoption, race, weight, and intelligence were questioned in 08.
LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The reason liberals do not like her is that they have a lower set of moral standards than conservatives.
Conservatives have high morals- for other people-that they don’t follow for themselves!
I So agree!
Indeed! Focus on your own damn Family, thank you very much.
You’re suggesting the Palins are unusually moral????????????
Which morals of Palin’s are higher than libeal morals? Promoting abstinance only sex-ed for kids while your teen daughter gets pregnant? Using public money to fly your family around the country? I guess I’m confused about her high moral standards…
Are you kidding?????? You must be….nobody is this unenlightened….really????
What planet are you living on, Tad?
Hahaha! That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all week, Tad. You must be joking because there couldn’t actually be a person alive who’s never heard of Mark Sanford, Mark Foley, John Ensign, or Larry Craig to name a few!
If there wasn’t a double standard as her kids were concerned in the media nothing would have been ever said about her son tripp possibly not being hers.
tripp isn’t her son. trigg is her son.
If there wasn’t the double standard, Letterman would have never made the comment about her daughter and A-Rod.
Mrs. Palin is interesting woman. I think she said it best when she said that her life has been an extraordinary collection of ordinary events (I paraphrased). I dont necessarily agree with everything she stands for, but I love how much she ruffles the libtard feathers. Pretty hilarious actually. Its like she’s a glaring example of everything they hate, notably self sufficiency. For that, I may just buy her book.
Well, buying the book won’t set you back much…..it’s selling for $4.97 on newsmax.com
Go for it, Helen. Right up the rethugs’ alley. If lies flip your switch, you’ll be in heaven.
she’s a complete idiot. please make her go away.
HEY SARA…I can see the moon from my house!!!!
Stay away…McCain should have picked Condi Rice..he would have won.
Or Tom Ridge, like he wanted to. The bible-whackers wouldn’t let him, because Ridge – GASP! – thinks what a woman does with her body is her own business. If he and his campaign had had the BALLS to do that, this life-long democrat would have voted for him.
I can’t believe she has a book out! If she wants to be out of the spotlight, then don’t write a book. duh. Well, she’s ok with me, but she needs to stop realing people in when she doesn’t want drama in her life. All the media is going to do is beat her down, they hate her.
The reason her daughter and family was targeted was that Palin promoted abstinence instead of sex education, and poof, her daughter is pregnant. There isn’t one way to teach kids about sex and pregnancy prevention, but she won’t admit it.
She didn’t just “promote” it – she made it the only option for countless Alaskan teenagers. Guess she didn’t realize her backward, “marry ‘em off young and keep ‘em barefoot and pregnant” draconian version of anti-feminism was going to snag her own daughter.
I definitely think she’s an interesting woman. There are a lot of things that she believes that I agree with; there are some things that I do not. I think I like her a bit better as a person than as a politician, however. Interesting interview, and given that I am not an Oprah fan *in the slighest*… I’ll give Oprah her due in conducting a good interview.
I’m sure Oprah really needs your endorsement.
A true “double standard” is being a vocal advocate, as a policy-shaping governor, of abstinence only “education,” while parading yourself and your family as some sort of paragon of American Family Values when your teenaged daughter gets knocked up. Didn’t/doesn’t she realize that when those conservative stones go a’flyin’ and those glass panes start shattering, people are gonna flock to see what the hubbub is all about?
I know, she’s such a hypocrite! Nothing says “hypocrisy” like telling your daughter not to have pre-marital sex, and then your daughter goes and of her own volition has it anyway! I mean, hypocrisy doesn’t mean “pretending to have moral values superficially and when you really don’t”, it means by our stupid-as-hell liberal definition meaning “a parent who tries to instill certain values into her child and the child ignores them”.
Too bad she didn’t live up to our liberal reproductive values, Jake, of abort-anything-that-moves-and-then-some. Because only then would she have been classy!
Wow, in your world that’s really all there is? Uninformed hormonal teenagers getting knocked up or “abort anything that moves and then some?” There’s a lovely little thing right smack dab in the middle there called BIRTH CONTROL, “Dumbass,” and in modern societies where young adults are given educated, responsible access to it, IT WORKS. It doesn’t even bug me so much that millions of parents are blind adherents to this puritanical folly (or even that they arrogantly expect everyone to be so) – what bugs me is that so many people are so stupid and bullheaded that it’s that black and white. Oh, and I’m not even going to get into the whole “what about sexually transmitted diseases” conversation, because with someone like you, I have a feeling it would be completely useless.
I vote to abort Jake!
Annnnnd…there ya have it. The name-calling bible-thumpers have taken this conversation from zero to stupid in what I think has got to be record time. “Oh crap, they’re pointing out again how uninformed, unintelligent, and borderline delusional the woman is again…with all those big words, and that LOGIC and stuff! QUICK! ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION! [snicker] that’ll learn ‘em!” We’ve spent enough time in life together Tad/Dumbass/Wakeforce. We’re done now.
I’ve definately noticed the way both liberals and conservatives respond to criticisms, and it’s quite interesting. A liberal mocks the conservatives hillbilly lack of education, where-as a conservative gets angry and shouts whatever they heard on fox news, which usually means adding the word “left” to whatever you say. Either way, neither side makes a constructive argument.
The point was she promotes an abstinence-only policy that DOES NOT WORK to curb teen pregnancies, as clearly evidenced by the actions of her own flesh-and-blood. I’m not saying she’s a hypocrite in that regard. I’m saying she’s either severely insulated from reality atop her conservative high horse or she’s not very bright. Or maybe both.
Thanks for making me giddy with the giggles! Great post.
To Jake that was.
