Tonight will be the first Sunday in quite a while without a new episode of Mad Men. Are you going through Draper-withdrawal yet? Are you expecting to feel joyless without Joan this evening?
AMC is programming its new miniseries remake of The Prisoner in the Mad Men time slot. You can read my review of The Prisoner here.
Somehow, I don’t think a drama about a guy who’s transported to a grassy anti-paradise called The Village is going to replace the glorious concrete of 1960s Madison Avenue in the hearts of a lot of viewers. Then again, The Prisoner may attract an entirely different audience to its channel. (Though this I also doubt.)
Anyway, how do you feel about Mad Men-less Sundays? And will you be giving The Prisoner a shot?

Sure, I’ll give it a shot. What I would like to know, however, is when the next edition of Realite is going to be posted!!
In reality, I am glad the Mad Men season is over. It was disappointing. Now that I read your review of January Jones on SNL I wonder if she is overrated on MM.
This was the actually the best season of Mad Men! The writing and acting was superb. I will watch the new show and give it a chance.
I expect to have a bad case of Draper withdrawal, so it will soon be time to break out the DVDs. And I’ve got the current season saved on my DVR. I thought this was a fabulous season, so dense and leading up to that incredible finale. As for “The Prisoner”, I’m still undecided. I’ve got it programmed to record, mainly because of Ian McKellan, though the Colts-Patriots game tonight should be very good.
This morning I woke up and thought “oh, mad men’s on today!”. I’m not sure about “prisioner”: it’s got a good cast but remakes are usually pretty bad.
Truly, not at all. I find it a frustrating, exasperating show. Of course I keep watching, I mean when they nail a scene, it’s a thing of beauty (don & joan at the hospital) but overall I find the show airless and precious. And the inconsistencies drive me nuts. Every little detail is oh-so-achingly attended to unless its not, like gene the mysteriously absent infant.
Bri – You mean the baby that cried during a very important fight between Don and Betty and that Betty took with her on the plane? How is he mysteriously absent? What do you want him to do? It’s not “Gene, the Talking Infant Show”. He’s in it just enough.
The last three episodes were so beautifully executed, it was a very satisfying conclusion to this season. I’m just worried that Bobby and Sally are going to be parentless on Christmas! I might watch the Prisoner, but most of the pre-show buzz has been pretty bad.
Mad Men is amazing, and will definitely be missed. Don’t think I’m going to watch the Prisoner. I would definitely like to see the original version though. Probably will get it soon from netflix.
Have watched the season finale twice now – yep, I’m missing it.
Don’t care about The Prisoner. (I love Ian McKellen but I don’t like Jim Caviezel even one little bit.) I am attempting to satisfy my Mad Men jones by watching DVDs of the previous seasons.
I get up really early, and stayed up to watch Mad Men, so me? I’ll be going to bed!
It’s interesting that people consider Mad Men controversial; I wonder really how many “conservatives” oppose it. Regarding the white males on the show, I suspect the vast majority of viewwers, of whatever political stripe, would love to be like them. As far as a replacement show, I don’t see it. I may have to crack out my DVD player and watch some show I’ve neglected because, frankly, they’re not available online, ie the Mentalist.
it’s 8:16 and I am wondering what to do with my 11pm slot I had allocated to MM right before Breaking Bad, ugh!
I am already feeling adrift. It used to justify my evening to watch MM after having to sit through Desperate Housewives which my husband refuses to give up – blech. I have already moved to another message board to make comments on but it is not as satisfying as analyzing the details of a well written and acted show.
Love MM, but I usually watch the encore presentation at 11pm ’cause I’m too busy watching Brothers & Sisters. Now what to watch at 11 is my dilemma. Kind of wish Drop Dead Diva was on….
