I’m telling you now: Come home from the bar early, or put the kids to bed early, or start drinking coffee early, or all of the above. You are not going to want to miss tonight’s Sons of Anarchy (FX, 10 p.m.). Also, adjust your DVR to accommodate its expanded length (in a special 90-minute time-slot, it runs 56 minutes plus commercials).
Last week, we saw Jax “go nomad” — i.e., free himself from the motorcycle club’s charter. Well, tonight we not only see the result of that, but also get a new development in the character of Gemma (and has Katey Sagal been great this season, or what?), and… well, I’d better shut up before I give anything away.
Will you be watching?

FX has always been a Network that takes chances on shows and has a good track record. I think it gives HBO or Showtime a run for its money. WIth shows like The Shield, Sons, Rescue Me, Nip/ Tuck, Damages. Even the few that didnt make it were good. Thief, The Riches, Over There, Starved. I think FX will push TV harder and farther in the future.
This show has been fantastic all season especially Katey Sagal’s Gemma. Her transformation from almost a one note bada** to a wounded and vulnerable woman has been the high point of the season.
ahhh I can’t wait! This isn’t the season finale is it?
No, just a “very special SOA”. I believe it runs 13 episodes, and I think this is #9. Correct me if my count is off.
Machunny
this is episode #10. Three more after this
I’ll be there, can’t wait!
Many, many thanks again Ken for giving this worthy show the coverage and exposure it deserves. It is top-notch in terms of writing, acting, and directing, and does it all on a tight budget. Please continue to give coverage when you can.
Am I mistaken in thinking that “Nomad” is the name of another SOA charter in California? When Jax told Happy to “Call Quinn; I’m going Nomad”, that’s what I got from it. Happy is on loan from another charter nearby, and I took Jax’s comment to mean he’s going to transfer to Happy’s club now. Also, didn’t Hamlet ‘go nomad’ for a time in the play? This really does follow Shakespeare very closely, only the Bard didn’t have the benefit of Katy Sagal’s considerable talents.
I think “nomad” is transferring from your home charter and just being unattached for a while. The nomads can sit in any charter meeting, help out, etc., but do not have voting power because they are not part of a specific charter. It’s like being freelance
Would he have to cut his patches off for that? The preview was showing Jax using his dad’s knife to cut the SAMCRO off his ‘cut’. Just curious. Now that he’s wandering, will others have to take him in?
he’s not cutting off his patch
he’s cutting off the “bottom rocker” which indicates a chapter in Jax’s case “California”
Been waiting anxiously all week!! I’m there!!
SOA is a nail-biter this season…
I’ll be watching…
I am loving this season, whoever I can’t wait for Henry Rollins storyline to wrap. I love the guy – but this role he’s in is just FREAKING me out. He is doing too good a job of being a baddie. It may have just soured me on him forever.
SOA is a brilliant show. It sounded interesting when I first heard of it, became more interested with the casting, and it was very impressive right from the first episode. It is one of the best shows on television right now.
I want one of those black “SAMCRO” t-shirts!
This show is best on cable. Katey deserves an Emmy!
I wouldn’t miss it. This show has been so good this year. Can’t wait!!
I wouldn’t miss it, been there since day one …. but 56 minutes of show across 90 min??? DVR is a must.
DVR is set, I can’t wait.
Damn I can’t wait.. Awesome show!!
Great Show. FX should pick-up Brotherhood that got cancelled by Showtime and The Black Donnellys was awesome as well.
I look forward to each episode and never go away dissapointed. I hope this show has a really long run.
Ken, I have a request. Even if you’re not going to do a recap for an episode, could you at least create a place for us to comment on the show? Thanks!
Nice touch with the page 449(Bill W. people know what I mean) , no way to describe this show. If it wasn’t for so many commercials i’d swear this was on HBO. Has so much truth about humanity , just like The Wire did. Must see TV !
just tell me the name of the song at the end.. the song with roses…
Meredith, the song was Mary by Patty Griffin.
Ken- Thank you for paying attention the this show. i’m not even the demo, but i have not missed 1 episode since the first season. I LOVE THIS SHOW and season 2 has gone beyond my expectations!!!

by far the best show on television.i am a big fan of the sopranos but i have to say for me sons of anarchy is far and away the better show.a show this good with a cast this talented doesn’t come around that often.i hope its on tv for many more seasons to come.
While I thought this was a good episode, I do not agree with the longer aspect of it. They added maybe 10 extra minutes of show time, while adding another 20 min in commercials. Above they list that it lasted 56 minutes, which means 34 minutes of commercials. That is complete utter crap. No wonder people are using their dvr to skip commercials or streaming online illegally. Anyone notice how ridiculous this was?
