Family Guy Presents Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show was a pleasantly odd little half-hour sandwiched between episodes of Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy. Read the full post.

Husband and I both fans of Seth’s animation domination. That’s where he and Alex need to stay. The “Almost Live” show was cringe-inducing. Not funny. Pathetic, grasping…did I mention cringe-inducing?
Usually I really enjoy Seth’s work as a cartoonist, and both he and Alex get the voices just right for the animated characters. Very gifted, very entertaining.
But for some reason – not sure what exactly – for me the show didn’t work, and the Marlee Matlin shtick was really unpleasant to watch, even with Marlee playing along. Not likely to watch the show again, it just didn’t do it for me. Others have mentioned the Cleveland Show in a similar vein – it’s like the train jumped the tracks and it hasn’t quite got back on again. I wish them luck – if they don’t get it exactly right, there’s going to be a train-wreck…
It was hit and miss. I really liked the parts where Seth sang and incorporated his Family Guy characters, especially the live versions of some popular FG songs at the end (“The Bird’s the Word”…LOL). I also liked the joke about the orchestra towards the beginning…that was cute. The TV theme song with Patrick Warburton was odd, but I had a little chuckle at it. The main problem with the show was Alex Borstein. She’s better suited for voicework. Her impressions are sub-par, and every time I looked at her, I kept picturing Miss Swan from “Mad TV.” Good for Marlee Matlin for having a sense of humor, but the lead-in to that joke (Alex singing Lady Ga Ga in Matlin’s “deaf voice”) was grating.
Like your reviewer, felt the Matlin gag went on too long, and overall that the Bornstein bits were uneven at best. MacFarlane himself is as terrific as his material allows.
I was hoping to see the whole cast from Family Guy (circa the “Live” album they put out a few years back) and feature the cast singing songs from the show, special material expressly for the album or new. That would have definitely been worth watching.
It was good…it had great moments…LOVED Matlin. If it were a weekly show, it could find its roots…certainly funnier than Wanda
Who, for the record, rocks and I hope her show picks up. Guest Seth MacFarlane?
Oh my gosh I was rolling!!! I thought it was hilarious and have told at least a dozen friends about it thinking it was a new show. I hope they make it a weekly show at the same time and day
MacFarlane does have a very nice singing voice, but watching him slip between the different character voices is unsettling to me. I guess I’m just used to hearing them from the cartoon characters, so watching them come from a grown man’s mouth is like watching him pull rabbits out of his hat: nifty but unnatural.
Seth Macfarlane is a genius; he ought to have hosted the show on his own.
Of course Seth can sing, he even sang the opening song on the Futrama: Into The Wild Green Yonder special. (I’m pretty sure he did anyway)
He’s very versatile.
I absolutely loved the show. I laughed so hard I woke the baby up and can’t wait to see it again, hopefully buy the dvd
Bring back the variety show! I loved it…the best piece of edgy comedy since the great shows of the 70′s and on a network! This show has to come back but can they do it again????
wanda is hilarious, witty, a great stand-up…..her show, other than her, sucks!
This was the most horrendous show ever. They placed it in between Fam guy shows so people would be forced to watch this, this, let’s face it folks, seth and alex have way too much time on their hands.
i love this comedy showeven though i am only 6 and i love family guy.
good shows bye. =] =] =] =] :] :] :] :] godies
uhm Alex Borstain was perfectly fine what yours problem
Marlee Matlin was only one of many celebrities spoofed on the show, most of whom were personally involved in the bits that included them… even when they were the “Strait-man, with pie on the face” It’s more like a celebrity roast in a single half-hour episode… sometimes even in just a single bit, the first one coming to mind being Alyssa Milano. The only bits I’ve noticed that didn’t actually have a direct hands-on (voice-on) part in the bit were of celebrities who were often controversial, either at the time or easily recallable past who’s input really wasn’t needed to be funny, again, the first one popping into my (otherwise empty) head being O.J. Simpson Seth Macfarlane said himself that a lot of the comedy / humor is born out of holding a mirror up to America, socially and saying “You’re often times ugly and we don’t like you very much” If you can’t take a glancing look at yourselves collectively and socially and take a %@#&ing joke, then just shut the %@#& up and blindly follow the rest of the sheep to the big tent and drink the %@#&ing Kool-Aid !!!!!!!!
