Taylor Swift's opening song on 'Saturday Night Live': Sings to Kanye West and Taylor Lautner

Taylor-Swift_l

In her opening “Monologue Song (La, La, La),” SNL host Taylor Swift sang, “You might think I might say/something bad about Kanye/and how he ran up on the stage and ruined my VMA monologue/but there’s nothing more to say/because everything’s okay/I’ve got security lining the stage.”

She also took a jab at “Joe” (that is, Joe Jonas) and sang that we might expect her to say something about “dating the werewolf from Twilight” — but instead, she silently mouthed “Hi, Taylor” and blew Lautner a kiss and winked at the camera.

Having finished the song, she announced, “We have a great show. Kanye West is not here.”

So far, so good…

And she also mentioned her ex, Joe Jonas. She can’t seem to get over that can she? I really wish she would just learn to keep her personal matters to herself and grow up. She needs to get over him and whatever happened between them.

    • dwayne

yeah relax on Taylor, the fact that she can mention things and make light of the somewhat negative media attention is by mentioning it. its HER life why can the MEDIA mention it and not HER?

    • ashley

i know, i thought that was soo wrong,.. she honestly made a fool out of her self, sooo sad :( plus she cant sing a tune

      • simon

thank you, her songs SOUND decent but the lyrics are STUPID and laughable. She pathetically tries to insinuate she is a “regular” girl not a cheer captain, yet she dresses up all the time and clearly is fairly good looking. Do music companies think people are so stupid to buy this “regular girl” act? It’s just like in Disney movies where the main actress trips and falls a lot to show us she is just like us!

      • LK

alright go find yourself a regular girl and take her to a music company and see if she can sell records. the music industry is biased and full of themselves. if you aren’t beautiful, even with a half decent voice, you’ll never have a record contract.

        get real, simon.

      • sarah

        lolz i agree

    • S

Um, I don’t think she wrote that monologue. She delivered it. And that Joe comment was pretty funny.

      • Jonas

I thought the Joe comment was WAY funny – and I am glad she “went there”.

    • Kristi

The people complaining about what was said in her monologue have obviously never seen SNL before. That’s what they do. They make fun of pop culture. It’s a joke… and they wouldn’t have been doing their jobs if they wouldn’t have poked fun at the headlines their host has made. Everything on SNL is a JOKE. It’s a show for people who have a sense of humor. And I doubt she wrote that monologue herself. SNL has a team of writers who take care of those things.

      • Tom

Wow, the jonas brothers fan club came out in full force for these comments

    • JayJay

Really? Why are you hating on her when In fact it is a comedy show and the produces had a say in what she should talk about. Seeing as that was one of the most media frenzy moments in her life and the fact that jow jonas is an idiot made the whole things more funny. Hence the show.

    • Matthew

Are you kidding? It’s a comedy show. She’s not seriously making an issue of it, she’s alluding to the general public’s shared mental reservoir of her personal life. Kind of what she has to do, a big part of comedy.

    • sarah

      aman

  • Sara

I thought it was funny. You’re just biased because you must worship the Jonas brothers.

    • ohmyjonasmeg

Yes, I do love the Jonas Brothers but even if I was neutral on both of them it’s still a little pathetic. It happened a year ago. No one’s talking about it anymore but her. Not the media, not Joe, just her

      • brandi

Agreed. Also if she is secretly dating Taylor, I wonder what he thinks about her still being bitter about Joe.. Hopefully he can see she’s STILL no over him!!

      • Kristi

It’s COMEDY. It’s what SNL is about. NOTHING ON THAT SHOW IS MEANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. If you’re taking anything said in the monologue (or any other part of the show) as anything other than a joke, you need a reality check.

    • Steph

yeah, seriously! SNl is a comedy sketch show, people here need to relax. I thought the monologue was hilarious…so she took some jabs at people? It was funny! Well delivered- and probably not written by her. It was a very good intro. And she was a very good host.
So stick that in your juicebox and suck it JoBro-Tweens!
P.S. That ^ is a joke- try to laugh.

  • Kyle

The song was funny and tonight so far the epsiode has been pretty good, They Still need to work on the opening of the show!!!

  • Alex

It was cute and funny. I was ambivalent about Taylor but she sure charmed me!

    • Mike

You captured my response perfectly. I thought it was an excellent opening monologue. The song was hilarious and she hit the comedy just right. I frankly could care less about Taylor herself, or all the gossip that surrounds her, but apparently I had picked up enough by osmosis to get all the jokes.

  • Kyle

Ok let me tell you but that one sketch on Weekend Update about the dogs, I believe that someone is not happy about that!!!

  • Alyssa

haha, i am an over the top jonas brothers fan and even i found that it was hilarious, i love the song in general :P

  • SAM

It hasn’t came on here yet so i really shouldn’t be reading this but i couldn’t help it but i can’t wait 2 hours!!!!!!!

    I ♥ Taylor Swift

  • Mackie

Her monologue was sooo Taylor! Team Swift all the way!

    • Sam Mayday Malone

I’m sorry but what is with people saying Team”insert name” – it sounds really dumb and a little sad honestly.

      • x

Does’nt it though, and not to mention reallllllly corny and a little pathetic.

  • invaliduser

i tried but taylor swift is horrible

  • Kelly Rodriguez

First that Foxx girl from Transformers now some hillbilly singer? SNL has its highs and lows, but this season is just awful. It’s on par with the sophomoric attempts like MAD TV. Just bad comedy….

  • Ryan

Wow…she has been just awful. Each of her skits have been incredibly awkward. This has to be one of the worst SNL episodes I’ve ever seen. I really hope she sticks to singing because she is talentless when it comes to acting. I really don’t have any idea what SNL is thinking when the recruit a host like her. Are they just trying to save money because she can host and be the musical artist? Because it seemed pretty clear even before seeing the show she wasn’t going to be a good fit for SNL. SNL would have lost a viewer tonight if I didn’t love Mad Men’s January Jones. Heres hoping next week’s episode will be better, although I find it highly unlikely it could be any worse.

  • Ryan

Please, please, for the love of God, bring back Justin Timberlake or just cancel this show already.

    • James T

I agree – they show Kirsten Wiig WAY too much, please kick her off the show and bring back Michaela Watkins

      • Scott

Are you kidding, Kristen Wiig is the only funny thing about this crappy show.

  • Tari

    Frankly, it was hilarious.
    I LAUGHED SO MUCH!
And now it needs to go on itunes so that we can buy it.

    • Ryan

No offense, but did we watch the same show? Or is this Taylor Lautner?

  • fancypants

she seems like a nice girl and is quite pretty, but let’s be honest Taylor CANNOT sing. her singing sounds like talking. miley cyrus sounds like old school whitney compared to taylor.

    • Alex

      Now, now, Miley is GOD-awful.

      • fancypants

true. but she can carry a tune better than swift (which isn’t saying much).

    • James T

Renee Olstead is the best talent of this generation, not these cookie cuter “talents” that these corporations shove down everyone’s throats. Have you seen the ridculous Rock Band commercials with Taylor Swift – she is so awful but they are funny

    • riley

Well, She wasn’t REALLY singing the song with her real voice! She was talk-singing it!

  • Jackie

The whole point of SNL monologues is to basically poke fun at everything the media says about you. The media brings up Joe Jonas all the time. Same with Taylor Lautner and Kanye West.

And to this Simon person: being “fairly good looking” and caring about fashion isn’t exactly an anomaly among teenage girls, regardless of whether or not they are cheer captain. Dressing nice? It’s called being an average girl. Most of us do.

    • Sam Mayday Malone

In her songs she tries to paint herself as an outcast yet her face seems to be everywhere these days, seems phony to me. Honestly I think the whole Kanye thing was a planned stunt to draw more attention to her. She has what two decent songs to her name – she will be forgotten soon enough

      • Jenna

She kinda has an entire hit album. And wow with the conspiracy theories. She makes a lot of people (especially teen girls) feel like they have someone to relate to. Don’t be such a hater.

  • Phil

So this is what people that sit at home on Saturday nights talk about…very interesting…

  • Michelle

Hilarious show! Great performances, she did wonderful! There are a always going to be people who don’t like her because she dated the Jonas brother, or because she’s so successful, or pretty… quit being jealous. Don’t watch the show if you don’t like her, you watched it because you do.

  • Ryan

Wow, the guys that are trashing her right now are some real tools. It’s a comedy show!!! Calm The F$*k Down!!!

    • Shamrock

I agree, people are taking it too way seriously. I think they are missing the point. I know most people think they have a sense of humor, but really most don’t.

  • Lillian

Why are you all haten Taylor Swift is the bomb. She is pretty, and she can sing. You are all just jealous.

    • toodles

she can’t sing. yes, she’s pretty and seems like a nice person, but she absolutely cannot sing. if you think she can sing, you might be tone-deaf honestly. these are facts. ask any musician or professional in the music business, and they will tell you that taylor cannot sing. she was missing notes and hitting flat and sharp all over.

  • Shamrock

By tomorrow we’ll get 1000 posts saying the same thing. The show hasn’t been funny since (insert year here). Cancel the show. Justin Timberlake needs to host every show…blah…blah…blah

  • Shamrock

I wasn’t familiar with Taylor Swift or her music, but she wasn’t bad at all. Lot funnier then some comedians who try to host.

  • austin

whoever “shamrock” is…get out from underneath your rock and look any direction and youll see something about taylor swift. how did you not know who she was? thats ridiculous…

    • Shamrock

Sorry, don’t listen to her type of music. They only thing I ever heard about her was the Kayne thing.

      • iheartpoco

I didn’t know who she was either, and I don’t live under a rock. Sometimes teenage girls can’t imagine that there’s a world that exists where their every whim and obsession is not shared. Anyway, I thought Taylor did a great job. I only knew her from the Kanye thing, was expecting some spoiled-Miley pop-tart. Wasn’t looking forward to the show, ended up pleasantly surprised.

  • Darla

    New Moon!!!!!OMG yay!!!!!!!

  • analee

So far I’ve only like Gerard Butler as host. They really need to cancel this show. Kristen Wiig, you are not funny!

  • Amy

Taylor Swift nailed it. I thought the monologue was one of the funniest I’ve ever seen. And I wasn’t even a big fan of her to begin with. It’s great that she doesn’t take herself too seriously (like those gay Jonas Brothers). She was a great host and all the reports have been positive on her so far. It’s only losers on the internet hating on her…probably a bunch of 14-year-old girls who happen to be fans of those gay bros. Tsk tsk.

    • x

SERIOUSLY AMY????WE’RE THE LOSERS BECAUSE ‘WE’RE HATING ON TAYLOR SWIFT’, YET YOU’RE IGNORANTLY CALLING THE JONAS BROTHERS GAY????? WHAT A NITWIT YOU ARE!!

  • trotter

Wow! What a triple threat mega-talent! Arguably the most authentic young female songwriter ever, she delivered buzz-worthy performances on SNL, and her comedic potential looks formidable was well. I’m wondering if she wrote that brilliant opening monologue herself, much as she did with the rap for her duet withT-Pain.

  • kelly

    TAYLOR SWIFT WAS AMAZING.
THE BEST PART THE MONOLOGUE SONG

  • Anon

Oh please…it’s SNL for crying out loud! She said she’d do anything they gave her, and she did…so what?! You guys need to get over JJ…she’s relaxed enough to make fun of the whole thing. I think she’s fantastic, and she will be around far after the Jonas brothers have ventured off into NSYNC land. Bye Bye Byeeee

  • Emm

Loved it, I watch Snl regularly, and this one has been one of the best this season. Only real dud was the Jail/cops one, but overall very hilarious. Yes and the monologue was funny as well. They are JOKES. I personally think it was smart of her to include those ppl in her monologues, that way she doesn’t have to address those issues in the skits. All the power to her for commenting on Joe, it was funny, it was a joke! The media always brings it up anyways.

  • Scott

I never watch this show, but I taped it last night just in case Kanye made a surprise appearance. Taylor’s opening song made me laugh, but man, this show really sucks. It’s painfully unfunny. I don’t get it at all.
