Jon Stewart maps out the path to Glenn Beck's appendix via the health-care bill

You could say it’s shooting fish in a barrel, Jon Stewart tracking the growing size and monster reputation of the health-care bill, tying it, so to speak, to Glenn Beck’s recent appendicitis attack, as contrasted with the fulminating Beck has done about big, bad government health-care reform:

Still, it’s a very good joke. By the way: Don’t you think blackboard and chalk manufacturers must be really happy these days? A spike in the economy, I’ll bet…

That criticism makes no sense. Glenn Beck has private health care. Ken Tucker and Stewart are both blind retards.

    • mark in nyc

it makes perfect sense, it is showing you how glen beck is nothing more then a media whore. He only says things to get ratings, and has no morals or moral compass. Anyone who believes anything he says is a moron.

    • Willco

I posted a reply critical of TiredOfIgnorance, and they took it down! This idiot can say “blind retards” and his post stays up, but I’m deleted for being critical of him without using a single disparaging word. WTF!?

      • Willco

Okay, it’s back up all of a sudden. So disregard 2nd comment. As Emily Letella used to say “Nevermind!”

  • Greg

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love it! Way to call Beck out, Stewart!

  • John

Ken Tucker, the only difference between Glenn Beck and your “construction-worker dad” is that Beck made it. Beck started out probably making less money than your dad. He struggled for years, but remained persistent and hardworking, and now is one of the highest paid in radio. So I guess according to you, it is his fault that he had goals and aspirations and made something of himself? It’s people like you, who take a dump on the American dream. YOU would rather everyone just mope about their business, not striving to better themselves, and then we can have daddy government take care of us.

    • crispy

The difference is Ken Tucker’s construction worker dad has integrity.

    • LazyShiftlessLiberal

My Goodness, how do you people get so stupid?

    • the better John

you give Johns everywhere a bad name…so stop

    • BlackIrish4094

Glenn Beck is a horrible example of the American dream. You too can make it big by encouraging people to hate and fear each other!!! Yeah!! Beck and his ilk are the type of people who keep a society from advancing. There was a Glenn Beck there when Rome burned too. These people make their blood money from hate and discord.

    • shep

glen beck is an opportunist.. and there is enough discord to make anyone like him rich.. however most on the left realize their is more to the world than just themselves…

glenn beck is a proven liar, he lied when he said that going on the website for “cash for clunkers” that there would be a pop-up window that you would have to click yes to, that would basically give ownership of everything your computer to the government.. well, i went on there after he said that, and nothing,, like i said, glenn beck is a liar and only idiots and fools believer him.

  • Jack

More of the same from a liberal media

    • jmo

As opposed to the right wing propganda of Fox “news”. Your comment is boring and old. zzzzzzzzz

    • Derek

Jack, what is it like being you? Are you afraid every time you turn on the TV that the big bad liberal media is out to get you? Do you shun all TV channels except for Fox? Do you think you are are one man fighting system? Maybe you think yourself as a modern day Luke Skywalker and somehow liberals are the Empire? Guess what Jack, you are right! Every single television channel, except for Fox, secretly has a political agenda because we HATE your Freedom and your America Dream! Ha ha ha!

      • P

HAHAHAHAHAHA… Luke Skywalker… HAHAHAHAHA… I really hope Jack is ashamed of his boringness after your comment!

    • John

you are so right…except jon stewart is not the “liberal media,” he’s a comedian…idiot

      • Lib

        Television is media. Idiot.

    • jodipo

LOL!!! Liberal media? He is a comedian idiot!

      • Lib

Television is media, and Stewart has been declared America’s most trusted newscaster many times.

      • Boyo

Why is it that Glenn Back is a dangerous nutjob who must be stopped but Stewart is “just a comedian”?

      • crispy

Because idiot teabaggers listen to Glenn Beck and carry guns to protests. John Stewart fans just smile and giggle.

  • Scott

At first, John’s ignorant comments made me mad. But then I realized that anybody who says that a radio host is a harder worker than an construction worker just because he makes more money clearly has no idea what they are talking about. So have fun dipping your tea bags, making your Obama Nazi signs, and crying over the death of the Constitution. I’ll be fighting to save lives by not letting people die because of not having health insurance.

  • RA

Dude if you think Glenn Beck cares about the “American Dream” or the “working class” you need to really step back. People like Beck make their money by manipulating your emotions. Surely you can think for yourself – start now.

  • RA

Sorry – was trying to reply to John

  • crispy

Far be it for me to criticize, because this segment is poignant and funny, but, uhh, didn’t this air like 3 months ago?

  • Rev. O.J. Flow

Ken, great post. I had absolutely no idea that teabaggers frequented EW.com. Who knew?

  • Vicki

Oh please. Can you actually stick to the point without degrading to personal attacks?

Do any of you have any personal experience with the aftermath of having someone critically ill and having to deal with the financial costs of healthcare? I’m not talking you had a cough here, people. I’m talking brain surgeries, heart attacks, cancer? Serious, serious, serious stuff and seriously expensive. No one should have to file for bankruptcy in order to get medical care (which happens, by the way. Do NOT try to tell me I am being dramatic.) The fact is something has to change. The public option will NOT take private health care away–speaking as someone who has lived in two countries that HAVE public health care (UK and Canada). It’s ridiculous that this is even an argument.

Jon Stewart makes a very good point–namely that Glenn Beck is a hypocrite and only interested in whipping up an ignorant frenzy–Jon Stewart isn’t making himself look like an ass. Glenn Beck is–the proof is in his own words.

    • Lib

“Can you actually stick to the point without degrading to personal attacks?”

It’s not the Glenn Beck fans saying “You teabaggers can’t think for your yourselves.”

      • Ama

But the teabagger can’t think for themselves. They just regurgitate the same crap I hear on fox, often times word for word.

      • Lib

And the rest of you regurgitate “You teabaggers can’t think for your yourselves,” and no one gets any smarter and the world doesn’t get any better.

  • Vicki

Oh yeah–”you” is referring to John as well. You all responded while I was still typing.

  • Newswatcher

I wish Fox News would’ve left Glenn Beck on CNN. Lots of passion, not enough smarts. Then again, with their ratings, the people at CNN probably wish he was back, too!

  • Anne

Have any of you actually watched Fox News ? Or are your heads so far up your nether areas that you don’t even know what’s happening. With government healthcare , you’ll die before you get that brain surgery . Have you asked yourselves WHY everyone comes HERE for medical care and not stay in their own Country with socialised medicine? Shame on you all for turning a blind eye to the disintergration of America’s moral compass.

    • Willco

See, this is exactly what all these people are talking about Anne. Fox dispenses lies and misinformation like “with government health care, you’ll die before you get that brain surgery”. And people like you blindly accept such nonsense as fact, soley because Hannity or Beck say it. So who is it really that has their heads up their nether areas?

      • NoDummy

There’s so much wrong with Anne’s comment I don’t know where to begin to dissect it.

      • crispy

Anne’s comment is so stupid, I think dying of a brain aneurysm should be the least of her worries.

      • Lib

Yet you are unable to refute it. “I don’t know where to begin to dissect it” — I bet you don’t.

      • NoDummy

Oh, don’t you worry, Lib. Happy CAN putt.

        1) Yes, I actually have watched Fox News and I think at this point it’s safe to say nobody tunes in to Fox News for unbiased reporting. It’s more like doom mongering and using scare tactics like “death panels” and “socialism” to “inform” people.

2)Health care isn’t going to be “government run”, it’s going to be “government run” health INSURANCE. Health insurance that’s being supported by the AARP and the AMA so any claims of seniors dying at hands of “government health care” are baseless at best.

        3) Last time I checked, we have people in this country trying to hop the Canadian border for medical care because of the insurance companies’ costly premiums and rampant denial of care.

        4) How is wanting a public option for uninsured Americans and reform of the greedy insurance companies “contributing to the disintegration of America’s moral compass?” Sounds like you’re rooting for the insurance companies to stay corrupt. That’s akin to rooting for the Galactic Empire to blow up Alderan (it’s a pop culture website, I’m allowed to show my dorkiness). I would worry about your own moral compass, Anne, if you have no problem with people being denied medical care because they have pre-existing conditions or they’re too poor to afford it.

Dissection finished, Lib. Go find someone who can’t back up their arguments to troll.

      • Lib

Not at all. Kudos, actually. It’s nice to see someone posting facts instead of insults.

      • Lib

Though I notice you couldn’t resist throwing in a few. I yearn for the day when real public discourse returns. Trolling for truth, that’s me.

      • CC

Lib, last I checked using a smug tone, like the one I’ve picked up in every post on this board under your moniker, is one of the last things to do if you want a return to ‘real public discourse.’

    • Ama

I feel sorry for you. It’s stupid people like you that fox news is after. The problem with American health care is not the quality of treatment we can provide. I worked at the NIH and I know how much we invest in the medical research. The problem is that our medical system is not accessible to everyone. No matter how good the treatments we have, 30 million americans are not able to get it. Are you so dense that you believe everyone comes here for treatment? It is those who can afford it. There tons of hardworking Americans who cannot get decent care. People with preexisting conditions are denied treatments in this country because their insurance company drops them and you are tell me about moral compass.

      • Ama

        *telling me about moral compass.

    • shep

lol.. i have known people to go to mexico and other third world countries, ie. coretta scott king, to seek medical treatment, because of the laughable health care system we have, the one that is meant to make rich people richer by denying and not making drugs that work more effectivly, thus making people rely on so-so drugs for the rest of their lives.. life should not have a pricetag.. now turn off your television and go out and talk to people, you will learn the real truth.

  • Collin

Great segment. Most people are not afraid. No matter how hard FAUX NEWS tries.

  • cndn610

I couldn’t wait to see the comments on EW when I saw this last night. I was doubled over in laughter. John Stewart puts the other media outlets to shame! This was a perfect criticism of the nightmare of Glen Beck and Fox. Where are the actual journalists who can’t hold a candle to Stewarts “reporting”?

  • David J

I love Stewart, but I have to admit this segment was stretched out waaay too long.
BTW if you want the best and most clear-headed argument for a public option yet, Roger Ebert (yes, him) wrote a GREAT one on his site.

  • Marcus Johnson

Does anybody remember ‘Network,’ the 1976 film about a morally bankrupt news station who gave an erratic, mentally disturbed man a show in order to please and shock the masses with wild, directionless ravings about “the system”, which would in turn give them ratings? How is it that no one is watching Glenn Beck on Fox News and not seeing a connection?

  • RJ

I’m actually glad Glenn Beck exists. He’s like a litmus test for crazies: as soon as I hear someone say they like him, I instantly know they’re not playing with a full deck.

  • Person

As a conservative I am ashamed that people group me with idiots like Glenn Beck. he gives a bad name to us.
