Your guide to November's best new TV episodes: 'Fringe,' 'CSI,' 'Supernatural,' 'Glee,' 'Criminal Minds,' and more!

glee-csi-v_l

Happy November 1st. It’s that time when the networks roll out new episodes, guest stars, and stunts in hopes of driving up their ratings for advertisers.

But you don’t care about that business stuff; you want to know what you should not miss. Here’s my guide to the best stuff. Set your DVRs!

CSI: Can’t get enough Laurence Fishburne? Starting Nov. 9, he’ll be the linchpin in a three-show crossover, searching for clues on CSI, CSI: Miami, and CSI: New York. No word on whether his search is for William Petersen.

V: The hotsy, health-care-providing aliens invade us on Tuesday, Nov. 3. It’s great to see Scott Wolf and Elizabeth Mitchell in such a juicy new show — V immediately transcends its old-show-remake status. By the Nov. 24 episode, Wolf and Mitchell’s characters will have uncovered a biological threat posed by the deceptively-serene aliens.

Supernatural: Look for Sam and Dean to show up in parodies of CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, a Japanese game show, and a sitcom, in a Nov. 5 episode entitled “Changing Channels.” One thing about the show this season: the more out-there stuff it attempts, the more fun Supernatural becomes.

Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show: With one major advertiser already having pulled out of this Nov. 8 special, you know that Seth MacFarlane probably has some amazingly tasteless stuff planned; can’t wait.

Glee: On Nov. 11, the episode called “Wheels” centers around, finally, Kevin McHale’s Artie. The musical students perform in wheelchairs — the phrase “Big wheels keep on turnin’” never sounded so apt — and we learn more about Artie’s background.

Criminal Minds: The top-rated serial-killer series works in former-Bush Gavin Rossdale as a rocker with a vampire stage persona on Nov. 11. And the series hits its 100th episode on Nov. 25 with nothing less than a Nietzsche-themed episode. The philosopher who said, “God is dead” may be the ultimate unsub.

Fringe: The Observer is back… or rather multiple Observers are all around, on the Nov. 19 episode of TV’s currently coolest unexplained-phenomena-plus-acid TV series.

Modern Family: On Nov. 18, Elizabeth Banks guest stars as an old pal of Mitchell and Cameron’s. And you thought Phil just acted all goofy around Gloria…

What shows are you most looking forward to this month?

I am looking forward to seeing “V.” I liked the original, so hope this lives up to it.

    • amj

I agree this is what I am looking forward to for sure! Watching the original on a SYFY marathaton now. Loved the original and hope the new version lives up to it.

  • Ally

    Castle. Castle. Castle.

    Or should I say..

Nathan Fillion. Nathan Fillion. Nathan Fillion.

    • Seann

Castle is grossly underrated. The chemistry between Castle and Beckett is better than Bones or any other show of its kind. I love that show!

      • Jenna

Ur an idiot. Castle is a rip off of bones, that’s no one cares about it. Why watch that when u can watch the original. While Nathan Dillion may be funny the chemestry between he and Beckett will never eben come close to that of booth and bones.

      • km

Why don’t you try watching it before you pass judgement. They both have their quirks. Why does it have to be one or the other? I admit I was anti-castle, but after watching it you realize it’s different.

      • Myndrunner

Castle doesn’t try to be a show its not. It is a modern day Murder She Wrote with great chemistry between great characters. It’s lighthearted and campy, just as it should be.

Oh, and if you are going to call Castle a Bones rip-off, at least spell check before you post.

      • Tarc

        Castle is great!

      • fred

        i care. i like it!

      • Jen

Why does watching Castle over Bones or Bones over Castle be mutually exclusive? I LOVE them both! Each has their own quirks and good points. I adore Em and David and I can’t get enough of my man Nathan. Thank God they’re not on the same night/time. that would be killer. especially b/c i already watch CSI Miami same time Mondays. thank God for two tvs w/ DVR!

      • Jack

Castle is AWESOME!! The characters are well written, the plots are excellent, and the actors are fantastic. “Castle is a Bones rip-off”? Really? So…Bones is about a novelist that teams up with a cop to help solve murders? Huh…must be watching a different Bones.

And besides….anything Nathan Fillion touches turns to gold. See Firefly (yes, cancelled…but that’s Fox’s fault for not supporting it and putting it in a crappy timeslot). I am a proud Fillionaire!

  • E.

Cheyenne Jackson joins 30 Rock on Nov. 12! He’s gorgeous and funny… can’t wait.

    • Robin

That’s great news. I am a huge fan. Looking forward to it!

    • dave

Is he going to be a regular? Do you know if he will be the new TGS castmember?

  • manish

omg banks on modern family? goooolden!!!

  • lindsey

I can’t wait to watch V. I hope it lives up to the hype.

    • K

The firt eight minutes did. For me, anyway.

  • Nic.

I’m looking forward to V. And I’m super psyched that the SyFy channel is having an old-school, original V miniseries marathon today at 12:30 p.m EST. (It will be more exciting than watching the Lions getting beat again!)

    • Geri

I DVRd the original V on SyFy today too. Funny but I had fonder memories of this show than I did when I watched it again after so many years. The first part was pretty bad, I thought., but I did make it through The Final Battle parts 1 & 2. They gave me quite a few laughs. Maybe ABC can do for V what SyFy did for Battlestar Galactica?

  • tvfan

Castle! Best show on tv right now!

  • Chris Shifty

Ken how could you forget or ignore The Prisoner mini-series on AMC?! November 15-17.

    • Laura

Yes! ’70’s British cult TV aficianadoes unite!

  • maz89

Can’t wait for Glee! And Modern Family! And 30 Rock!

  • a person

GLEE=show i cant wait for! plus on Nov 11 they are preforming Defying Gravity!!!!

    • Caroline

      Glee+Defying Gravity+Kurt and Rachel= :)

    • Renee

WHOA?! OMG that’s SO Exciting!! Yay! (Despite what the print may look like, I’m not being sarcastic.) In all seriousness, that makes me really happy. This show definitely needs to do more songs from musicals. And Lea Michele already looks and sounds like Idina Menzel, so it makes perfect sense.

  • Yvonne

Well, I’m going to watch the original ’80’s ‘V’ today on the SyFy Channel (still prefer SciFi). But I’m looking forward to Fringe, Bones, Supernatural and Glee.

    • Kimmer

thanks for the tip on the original “V” today on SyFy. I plan on watching this one and the new version.

  • Doug

Can we stop talking about Family Guy? I think most people have finally realized that it’s garbage.

    • trish

      family guy is awesome

    • Family Guy rocks. Screw you.

    • ernie

South Park > Family Guy. Family guy isn’t funny at all.

      • Dave

“South Park > Family Guy. Family guy isn’t funny at all.”

        Quoted for truth!

      • PinkSwan

Do we need to compare them or pick one over the other just because they are both animated? They are both funny!

      • Dave

Yes, we have to pick the one that is actually funny – South Park!

      • Caitlin

I hate South Park with a passion. I’ve watched it quite a few times, and I think it’s the most overrated show on TV. I don’t think it’s that funny.

  • ALS

Laurence Fishbourne is doing somethine that William Petersen would never do; appear on the god awful CSI spin offs. Petersen said, in an interview once, that he was against the spin off because he believed they would take away opportunities from his show; and he also said that there were storylines that they wanted to on CSI but couldn’t because NY and Miami got to them first. Well said Petersen, the clones don’t hold a candle to the original but if Fishbourne want to try and unify the franchises good luck to him.

    • Jackie

I thought that there had already been a crossover with CSI:NY? Or was that between NY and Miami?

    • motherlarisa

      William Peterson was on a CSI:NY crossover…

      • ALS

No, WP never appeared on any of the spin offs the only CSI:LV characters to appear were Catherine and Warrick. When they were introducing CSI:Miami. WP contribution was from afar; he never interacted with Caruso or any other CSI:Miami character.

      • Tim

I think that WP was on a crossover ep with “Without a trace” a couple of seasons ago

  • Teresa Cash

Supernatural!!! I really hope they do a 6th season.

  • Courtney

I can’t wait for Bones this November, especially with the spoilers for next episode. Also, I’m prepared for the haters to come flocking, but I’m completely psyched for the new House episodes. There, I said it. Haters, flame away.

  • parker

The Waters of Mars will be far better than those episodes. David Tennant is the man.

  • Olive

I’m really looking forward to those new episodes of Dollhouse….oh, what’s that? Oh yeah-they’re not playing them until December…

  • Sarah El

I am very excited for Wheels on Glee! Kevin McHale has the best voice on that show and Artie is amongst my favourite characters. I’m also really excited to see V; it looks so very, very good to my (quality) sci-fi lovin’ eyes. Finally, I’m excited about the finale of Mad Men. Although the season started off a little slow for my tastes, the last couple episodes have done so well to remind me why I love that show and I’m hoping the final two keep up with that.

  • ConnieS

I wish V would be on friday night instead of on Tuesday. I watch NCIS and do not want to miss it but on friday I do not even turn on my TV because I can’t find anything to watch. I hate it when they schedule 2 shows I want to watch at the same time so I have to make a choice of which one to watch.

    • Jen

that’s what DVR is for, honey. or you can watch V on abc.com b/c i guarantee they’ll be having full eps every week online for viewing.

  • jan

I’m excited about V and House and Fringe. Castle is so dependent on whether you like Fillion or not; for me it’s on-again/off-again.
    Glee is always awesome.
CSI is better this season, thanks to Jorja Fox. Laurence Fishburne is not my reason for watching, but the Trilogy looks pretty good. Now, where is William Petersen? The search continues. LOL

    • Jackie

So sometimes you like Nathan and sometimes you don’t?!

  • Shamrock

What constitutes a season nowadays? It used to be from Sept-Jun. It seems like I see a new show and then a few weeks later it’s the “shocking” season finale. I heard Probst say Survivor in it’s 19th season, yet it’s only been on since 2000.
Anyway, looking forward to V. Elizabeth Mitchell is drawing me in.

    • Jackie

It’s about time the tv ’season’ changed. How can a show that has 22 episodes be broadcast from September to June? It’s ridiculous and archaic. The sooner the networks change with the times, the better.

      • michelekamay

I fully agree with both of you!
It’s time for all those TV showrunners to reduce their seasons from 22-24 to 13 episodes like cable networks do. The first reason is that it’s obviously difficult for the showrunners to remain genuine and surprising because of spoilers and juming-the-shark threats. Therefore the second reason is that only few shows can still entertaining after 6 seasons/6 years. The third reason is that as a viewer, I’m sick of watching once hit shows – Ugly Betty, Gossip Girl, Heroes – going “further than down, down town!”(Ross Geller)after few years. A season of 13 episodes and 2 seasons or cycles per year, I think it’s the key! I’d rather have 5 seasons of Glee + a movie in 3 years than 2 years of great entertainement + 4 following years of advertisements cashing.

  • jan

I forgot to mention Modern Family. Best new show, period. It’s my midweek pick-me-up.

  • Chris

Glee is great. My newest obsession: “White Collar” with Matthew Bomer.

  • katie

SUPERNATURAL!!! and Criminal Minds LOVE that show!! can’t wait to see whats gonna happen with Hotch and the Reaper on Criminal Minds

    • dollie

have to agree love both shows cant wait to watch. lol

  • holly

Gawd I hate the spinoff CSIs so I guess I will eatch the thursday original and hope for it to make sense as a stand alone. I could never sit thru and entire hour of Miami

    • Jackie

I don’t mind the NY one – although it is still nowhere near as good as the original. I don’t think you could pay me to watch CSI:Miami unless Caruso wasn’t in it anymore.

      • dollie

omg i thought i was the only one that felt that way. lmao

      • Jen

I loved Miami, until Adam Rodriguez left and Emily (Calleigh) was left all alone. :( I can’t stand Horatio Caine. I’m sorry but Caruso makes the character come of as conceited and annoying and smug. Every time I see him I just want to trip and see him fall. Dumb ass.

  • John O.

I’m looking forward to FlashForward which is my favorite show of the season.

  • Jenny R

Supernatural’s “Changing Channels” this Thursday is going to be EPIC. I wish it was Thursday!

  • johnny

HEATHER LOCKLEAR ON MELROSE PLACE!!! Nov 17 i cant wait!!!! the bitch is back

  • Snarf

Supernatural gets underrated for the most part, except here, Popwatch and Ausiello. Thanks Ken!

  • Alaina

Thanks so much for mentioning Supernatural. I think it’s the funniest, most original show on TV, and it’s always overlooked. What other show would make fun of its huge competitors in its time slot?

    • trish

omg i so agree with you supernatural is one of the best shows

    • kate

I could not agree more. Supernatural is one of the most intelligent shows on TV now and I’m glad it’s getting some love in this article :)
