Well, Kim Bauer finally did something right: She gave Jack Bauer a grandchild, which is clearly the most important element in the new trailer for 24’s eighth season:
With 24 being casually referred to by Keith Olbermann earlier this week as “torture porn,” and George W. Bush recently reported to have asked Carlos Bernard when Tony Almeida was going to get back into action, you know this combination TV-thriller and political-football is still capable of being… either terrible or white-knuckle fantastic next season.
From this glimpse, doesn’t it look as though Benito Martinez (Aceveda on The Shield) will probably be one of those characters who tells CTU there’s a Big Terrorist Plot About To Explode and then gets sniper-shot within the first three hours? An assassination attempt (here, on a U.N. representative) is probably a throwback to the original premise that got 24 rolling, and may suggest a welcome return to the show’s semi-realistic roots, rather than the baroque huggermugger 24 has engaged in recently.
Chloe looks just a little glammed up, President Taylor (Emmy-winner Cherry Jones) looks suitably pained by yet another of Jack’s imperatives (“You need to pay attention to this!”), and Jack — well, that growly voice makes for one cuddly grandfather, doesn’t it?
It all starts January 17. Fox isn’t going to let you forget it as you watch the World Series, either.

I agree, Lil’ One, he doesn’t look like a grandpa, and I’d appreciate if we all just quit talking about that because it makes my crush on him feel a smidge icky.
Kiefer is my age and I’m certainly not ready to be a grandma! Chloe looks good.
Well, in real life Kiefer is a grandpa. His stepdaughter from his first marriage has a kid and Kiefer has referred to himself as a grandparent in interviews.
Grandpa Jack . . . brings to mind images of him and the little girl going out on interrogations together. “No dear, you have to aim higher, at the knee cap, that way the bad man can never walk again!”

Wow! Can’t wait! Every season “24″ seems to add strong, interesting players to the cast, the guys from “Slumdog” and “The Shield” being good examples.
Jack is Back.Grandpa?If they use that for motivation such as granddaughter gets kidnapped etc then sure.KS/JB is probably approx 45/50 so,kid at 20/25 = 20/25 year old daughter = child = grandpa.Not really a stretch.Danger:They go too far with a mellow JB but also opportunity to add risks for JB.Doubt they’d feature the child if that wasn’t part of the plan ,a kidnapping etc.Just hope they don’t blow it and this is the last season.Also would love to see certain key characters developed so that once 24 is over these characters can go on in some other way,such as Chloe,Tony Almeida and Renee.

that part in the promo made me smile so cute and my heart warmed at seeing Jack looking more free, and happy and relaxed then I ever saw him. It was like that in Day 1 before the Miserable life he’s been living started. GO 24!!!!!
i can not wait until the next season starts to. i am glad that they are making jack be a granpa for that there is more to live for and more now than ever to protect eveyone.
I too agree with that cute as a bug kid. He sure doesn’t look like a grandpa, cause I don’t have naughty thoughts about the other older gents who pass my way as grandpas. LOL Bring it on, I just got excited for 24 now.
