It was a great night to be a beer-drinker or the kind of person who always loved watching the bloopers at the end of Smokey Read the full post.

'Saturday Night Live': Hosted by Gerard Butler and beer. Actually, mostly just by the beer.

The problem is the principles of sketch writing are ignored. A sketch needs a beginning, middle, and an end. Just because you were in an improv group that five of your friends came to every Friday night in Boston, doesn’t make you capable of writing for a network show. Here’s an idea: how about a contest where people submit their sketches each week.
I thought Beauty and the Beast was the funniest bit they’ve done all season (not that that is a big achievement). I enjoyed Hader as the alien sportscaster and Seth having to translate from Scottish to English.
The Barack Obama openers need to end. They aren’t particularly funny and Armisen gets worse by the week.
Maybe it’s time to give up on SNL. kristen Wiig is funny in bits. I loved her in Knocked Up, but here the phrase “beating a dead horse” comes to mind!
I agree…Wiig’s characters (i.e. Gilly) get old and aren’t that funny, but when she does newer ones they’re usually hilarious (like one of the sisters on the sisters on the Lawrence Welk Show) . Beauty and the Beast and Weekend Update were the funniest this week. PGAD and “Thank you for coming!”? Haha!
where was Andy
The Beauty and the Beast sketch was the best one.
I found it odd that they’d do a BET spoof when they only have one black cast member. The sketch could have been funnier if it were a little more realistic. I think it just ended up reminding people how un-diverse the cast is.
And I really missed Andy Samberg. Where was he?
I thought it was brilliant that they did the BET skit with one blk guy. THAT WAS THE JOKE!! Keenan Thompson is getting better and I’d like to see more from him. Give KW a break. Currently she’s SNL’s most dependable cast member. Where’s McGruber?!?!?!?!
I miss Michaela Watkins. “Bitch Pleeease.”
It was the best show so far. I expected more out of Drew Barrymore’s appearence and as much as I love Gerard Butler I kept my expectations low so I wouldn’t be too disappointed. I wasn’t with Gerard. I, however, think that some of the other female cast members need to make a signature character. Wiig is taking too much time with her same tired characters. Target lady is the best. SNL needs to step up now that Pohler is gone. I don’t find any of the other female cast memebers funny.
I like Target lady and the sisters singing group with her little doll hands.
Target lady was funny the first time ONLY, all of her other skits are lame, I hope they never do another Gilly skit again. As for other female members – Michaela Watkins was great last year with her Bitch Pleeze act.And lets be honest Amy Pohler was a bit overrated herself
Was I the only one who laughed when GB confused goats with dragons?
That was cute. he is a good actor, but was poorly used.
I thought the “Daveheart” sketch was really good. “Years from now, when we’re old, won’t we regret that we ran away?” “NO! You’ll be glad that you’re old and STILL ALIVE!” (or something to that effect) The goat/dragon was the topper. I thought the whole skit was well written and nicely done.
Seriously, this show is still on the air? Why?
It was probably the funniest of the season so far but again that was nt saying much. I thought CG opening, the Beauty and the Beast and him talking to his family in Scotland while Seth Meyers translated were the funniest parts. I watched him on Jimmy Fallon the other night and I had tears in my eyes listening to some of his stories – the guy has a great sense of humor if he is given good material. I felt bad for him during that sketch with Wigg in the ad agency – it really bombed… Please replace Seth Meyers as head writer, he’s not very funny, just a little bit smug…
I haven’t made it through one episode of SNL this season. They need a total redo.
the hardest thing thing i laughed at was kristin singing the first line of beauty and the beast. after that i stared blankly at the tv. its been like this for so long, when are they going to do something
SNL stopped being funny after Tina Fey and Amy Poehler left. It needs new writers, and less Wiig.
“Daveheart” made me laugh out loud. But that was all. Kristen Wiig is pretty much an automatic cringe, every time she is onscreen. More screen time for the new women, and I might keep watching. Maybe.
I really only watch SNL now for Update. I like Seth Meyers.
