There is no comparison between 30 Rock and Modern Family. Modern Family is ten times funnier than most episodes of 30 Rock.
First, I really enjoy 30 Rock and believe it is very funny. While it is “clever” funny and “showbiz industry satire” funny among other things, it is not very “relationship” funny. I know The Office is just a TV show, but why do I deeply care about what happens to the characters? I do not care much about the 30 Rock characters – they are funny – but I rarely think about them after the show is over for the night. (I care a little about Liz Lemon and enjoy the friendship between her and Jack, but that is about it.)
Ken – I believe it hit its ratings high last season – 30 Rock just does not have the right character appeal to go beyond its current audience. Again, I love the show and also believe a similar explanation could be written about Arrested Development.
(My apologies to LoliRyder above. He/she already said a lot of what I was thinking. I did not see your comment before making mine.)
Three words: JUMPED THE SHARK.
Hilarious. I love it when funny shows jump the shark these days. remember when Arrested Development did it. It only got funnier and funnier.
Frankly I think 30 Rock jumped the shark pretty early on, possibly in it’s first season (although if you think about any of Tracey’s scenes then they probably jumped it back in the first episode: “I am a Jedi, I am a Jedi!”)
My favorite show is funnier than yours, and my mom is a better cook, and my granny can sew better ,and my dad can kick your dad’s butt, and P.S., I just married your mom.
It’s losing viewers because it’s constantly bashing Republicans. I used to love the show but couldn’t take getting constantly insulted any more, so I stopped watching. A pity.
