As EW reported last night, Southland has been canceled by NBC. A combination of so-so ratings and, more significantly, the lack of the 10 p.m. Read the full post.

I only watched the pilot and found it terrible. I’d heard there was improvement, but to the tune of $3million an episode? I doubt it.
I agree – I wanted to give these new shows a chance at the end of last season and the beginning of this season, and I think this was one of the only shows in recent memory that got deleted from the DVR within the first 20 minutes of the show – it was TERRIBLE!
As for all the people complaining about the cancellation, maybe if more people watched the show it would have survived!
And what does Jay Leno have to do with it?!?! If this show wouldn’t have been picked up for the fall, then maybe that could be an excuse, but it was picked up, and obviously the suits at NBC didn’t like what they were seeing, and put the show out of it’s misery before it aired more terrible TV!
Sorgipet – It’s the fact that it’s a 10PM show. It’s an “adult” show. That’s what Leno has to do with it. If you didn’t like it, that’s fine. But Southland had more viewers in it’s 7 episode season than Trauma and Mercy are getting now. Get your facts straight.
NBC, what weree you thinking?? ABC please pick this show up!
are you kidding ABC? they are even worse then Nbc at canceling quality shows! ie” Pushing Daisies, Life On Mars, Eli Stone..oh the list goes on and on!
It wouldn’t fit at ABC. TNT or FX would make the best fit. USA is too light-hearted, but it’s not edgy enough for HBO or Showtime.
Are you kidding me?!!? This show was phenomonal and I do NOT get into Cop dramas at all!!
They didn’t even give it a shot!!!
Total bummer! I really liked this show and love the amazing Regina King! I’m really sick of Jay Leno and his stranglehold on NBC! I hope this show finds a home somewhere. It’s really a shame to give up on it so soon. I’m really bummed and irritated!
I hate that, NBC Cancelled this show, it was a pretty good show. I did not watch it all the time but, I saw it enough to say it is a good police drama, some other network should pick it up.
The Jay Leno Show can’t last. That time slot is too valuable for great dramas. Jay will be down to once or twice a week by mid-November.
God I hope so.
Southland is one of my favorite shows. Smart, sophisticated, dramatic. I can’t believe once again quality succumbs to fluff. Four nights of Jay would be more than enough. Can’t NBC give the adults just one night of good TV?
First NBS makes the STUPID move to have Jay Leno on at the prime spot EVERY night (once a week is plenty) and now the take one of the few promising shows out there and cancel it. Well, there are quite a few turkeys on every channel that will be axed by Thanksgiving, so Southland should take one of those soon to be empty slots.
Bummer! Another stupid move from NBC.
What a joke. Leno isn’t doing squat as it is. Southland is a VERY good show. Fingers crossed it gwets picked up. Tremendous cast and stories. What a shame.
Barb, check your American Heritage dictionary. “Canceled” is the preferred spelling, but “cancelled” is acceptable as an alternate.
On topic, why doesn’t NBC limit Leno to just one night of the week so four other production companies aren’t put out of work on the other four nights and shows like Southland won’t have to be dumped?
TNT or FX. The Shield is off the air and Saving Grace is ending this year – both need a new cop show. If it is somehow saved by cable, there’s a chance it could actually improve the show since it could be grittier and really take the time to develop the characters. Fingers crossed!
Maybe A&E could pick it up since (sadly) The Beast won’t be back for another season. It was on that network right?
I don’t understand NBC! I knew there was going to be some problems w/Southland @ 9pm on Thursday up against Greys, Fringe & CSI. I still don’t know what they were thinking w/having Jay on @ 10 every night, someone must have been smoking too much when that was decided. Maybe Directv can save it like it did another little NBC show called Friday Night Lights which is phenominal TV.
Wow, first they almost axe Chuck, now they DO axe Southland. With no “Life” to fill the void, I am seriously going to be hard pressed to watch anything on NBC.
Oh but, hey, LENO!! ….cause thats what we needed. Late Night talk cicuit to filled up? Oh just move him to an earlier slot, and not leave room for any of our core competency shows! Win! (/sarcasm).
Its like a trainwreck, you just cant look away.
