Dave can dish it out, and he can take it…I bet he’ll be making jokes at his own expense to help diffuse the situation…I wouldn’t worry about him too much…He’s tough, he’s been around a long time, he’s got smart lawyers, and CBS wont give him an trouble…I look forward to seeing what Monday brings…
My biggest complaint is that none of the jokes have been funny. Then again, Maher, Leno and Fallon have never been funny before, so why should they start now?
First of all, Letterman’s jokes about his situation were funnier than anyone else’s “clever” jokes. Secondly, i admit i’m a big fan of Letterman, but he put himself in this position and he is fair game. however, once again Leno proved how unfunny he is. His joke didn’t even make sense. Finally, isn’t “sexual harrassment” unwanted advances and “office romance” consenual. remember, this is just as much about an ex-boyfriend trying to get revenge on his ex-girlfriend by stealing her diary, which didn’t say anything about harrassment, because if it did Letterman would be in some legal trouble, not just an embarrassing situation.
ts, when the office romance is between the guy in charge and his underlings, especially when he then elevates that underling to on-air stature, it becomes a very legitimate issue. Probably not a legal issue, but a moral one. A lot of people will say it still doesn’t matter, a lot of people will say it does matter, both are reasonable viewpoints.
Well-said mike. Sexual relationships with co-workers – ill-advised. Sexual relationships with persons under your supervision – recipe for disaster.
Ken Tucker, you didn’t mention Leno’s best line: He told the audience that he too, was once the victim of an extortion plot: ” How do think NBC got me to do a 10 o’clock show?”
Letterman is fine; he never was the “Family Values” type. Yes, he probably cheated on his girlfriend now wife. But at least he does go around claiming he is Mr. “Family Values” like some of our politicians (can you just see the grin on all “Fake News” reporters/commentators). This has been a tough summer, for Dave, for our economy but at least he did not end up on the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC).

Jl, don’t you read the news? These dudes have been all over the news for their “family values” speeches and sleezy personal lives.
First of all Dave doesn’t write every joke he says. But he probably has final say and the show has his name on it. And when someone screws up, you can bet the talk shows hit them in there monologue. It will be interesting if he brings it up again or if he tries to make it go away. My guess is that Dave will throw some zingers at himself over the next few weeks. This will determine if he is a hypocrite or not. I don’t think he has ever claimed to be on the far right, he’s admitted that he been living in “sin” with a woman for the last 10 years. I don’t think he ever said “I’m a saint”. All he has implied is that if you have an affair and get caught, jokes will be written about you. Now the question is whether he will write jokes about himself. I wish they would put cameras in the writing room for the late show on monday. I think that would be an interesting place to be. Dave admitted to everyone he had done something terrible, Bill O’Rielly did something terrible and pretends it didn’t happen. And still criticizes others, that’s hypocrisy.
THANK you. I don’t think people really understand the whole “hypocricy” concept. Hypocricy is pretending to have beliefs and values you don’t really have– and that’s not the case with Dave.
I don’t think Dave will talk about it too much right now because it is a pending criminal case and the prosecutor probably doesn’t want media attention screwing up the case. But Dave will probably talk about it sometime in the future.
Letterman got what he deserved.He is not a honest person with the public, coworkers and his family.

Leno is often perceived as the lightweight, but he was actually ahead of the comedy curve on things such as OJ Simpson, Clinton/Lewinsky, Bush/Weapons of Mass Destruction and the whole John Edwards thing. He does not shy away from sacred cows, or potential jokes.
Actually, when asked why he didn’t make jokes about OJ Simpson, Letterman replied “what’s funny about 2 people being murdered?”

wow. i only started watching letterman very infrequently in 2002 to the present, but you’re right i’ve never heard him tell an OJ joke. so he really makes it a point NOT to tell OJ jokes? i don’t watch letterman consistently so i obviously miss most of his jokes. i’m intrigued. comedians have been mining OJ material for more than 15 years now!
Leno is still making jokes about these things, so I don’t really think he’s “ahead of the comedy curve”. He just runs the topics into the ground. And he always laughs at his own jokes – annoying
Um, I think it’s a stretch to accuse Letterman of hypocracy. Unlike Jon Stewart and Ferguson, all Dave’s ever really done is poke FUN at the scandals. He’s never said he was better, or railed against hypocracy the way those other two continually do.
