A few weeks ago, I saw an episode of Inside the Actor’s Studio with Conan O’Brien. Conan reminded us that when he first took over The Late Show (when Dave left NBC for CBS), his ratings were dismal. Dave contacted Conan and offered to come on the show as a guest. It was a turning point for Conan and his show. Conan was extending Dave personal courtesy, not professional courtesy, IMO, by not commenting. Conan made a decision that was right for him. Good for him.

Today the news came out that the guy who asked for the 2M was the boyfriend of one of the women Letterman slept with. Sour grapes on his part. Also, stupidity on his part for agreeing to meet with Letterman three times in the presence of his lawyer, who is an officer of the court. Dumb.

Letterman has stepped up and apologized and he took the story in his own hands and admitted it on his show. He has apologized to his staff and his wife and admitted he had a ways to go to make it better. It wasn’t right, but he’s working on it. I applaud that.

CBS has already said that he has broken no rules and there have been no complaints about him. And if CBS chose to let Late Night go, he would just find another network. Letterman was smart to keep ownership of his own company…rare in this day.

people…grow up! What Letterman did was wrong because he was in a relationship already, but that’s a personal matter, and not a show biz one. If you don’t like what he did, than just stop watching him.

Letterman used his authority to get dates. How pathetic is that? If the president of your company asked you on a date, for sex how do you react? You have to say yes or your’e out on your a@@. He should have never put any woman in that position. He used poor judgement and now has to pay the piper. Yes, he’s the victim of a crime but he brought it on to himself with unethical behavior which led to possible blackmail.

For all of you who say it was consensual, think about it. If your craggly old nasty company president targeted you as a sex partner, how comfortable would you feel? It should never happen. Dave is a hypocrite and in the worse way.

Last night his guest was the gorgeous Eliza Dushku and he didn’t flirt with her or even compliment her beauty, which was very out of character for David.

Why is this such a big deal?! The desperate extortion plan is the news – the guy was a respected TV producer. How could he think this would work? I’ve always liked Letterman – kind of a high-low mix of intelligence and juvenile humor – but he’s got the right stuff. Good for him to expose a sleezy extortion plot. So what if he had a couple of flings with consenting, unmarried adults? His biggest problem is repairing whatever upheaval this may have caused between him and his “now wife” who was his “then girlfriend”. Good luck Dave!

Meh. He was the one who went public, which was actually pretty gutsy. He had to know it was coming. I’m disappointed in his behavior but not surprised (there had been so many rumors for so many years). And it’s really not my business, other than being glad an alleged blackmailer is being charged for the crime.
