Great. It’s really sad to watch the re-runs and see what a loving couple they used to be. What are we gonna watch now, Kate and Eight on a Date?
I also used to think that they should just cancel this show altogether and focus on helping their kids through this divorce, but you know, I suspect being on the show is better than not.
The show seems to just tape planned activities with the kids, not have the cameras turned on 24/7 to catch everything, like Real World.
If Kate actually had to go back to working as a nurse (with those 12-hour shifts), the kids would suffer not only a drop in their standard of living but also lose their mother. Between work and sheer exhaustion, it’s not like Kate could pay them much attention.
Jon, meanwhile, doesn’t have a degree or a job (he was fired from his last one), so it’s not like he’d be able to help much in terms of financial support.
While I normally don’t like the idea of kids being on reality tv, as long as they keep the filming to planned activities, I can live with it. I’d much rather see that than see them go on public assistance (and while I know they’ve made some good money so far, raising 8 kids is expensive, so I doubt they’re financially set yet).
You doubt that they are financially set yet? They have made millions from the exploitation of those children. For Kate to say that she needs to continue the show just to support them is ridiculous, and just selfish. I would hope that whatever share the kids already made has been set aside for their futures. Even if she did walk away from the show and the speaking engagements, I highly doubt they’s be on public assistance.
Have you ever taken the time to figure out how much it costs to take care of eight children. Let alone 8 kids who are used to getting everything they want. To take those kids through a divorce and such a dramatic change in life style would be to much for them to understand.
Amy you’re right in that they SHOULD be financially set with what the show has given them.. but the way the parents are spending on themselves with no regard to their future (or children) is HORRIBLE. New cars, trips back and forth, apartments in NY, designer clothes, you name it, they want to flaunt it. Gross.
Kendra, I have 6 children and we do quite nicely on a $50,000 salary in the most expensive area of Canada — Vancouver, BC. Children are not as expensive as people pretend they are. The Gosselins have made millions. All 10 of them could live a normal life off the interest for the rest of their lives.
They may have made millions, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that by the time they bought their house, Jon got his Manhattan bachelor pad, they pay for things like tuition and sock something away for the kids’ college fund, there isn’t that much left over.
And Deb, in BC you guys have two key things that we’re a lot less likely to have here in the US: decent public schools and free healthcare. In August I spent nearly $200 (in co-pays) getting my 3 kids’ physicals for school (shots and things). It adds up, let me tell you.
Financially, they SHOULD be set. Their tuition has already been covered and they money they have made, plus residuals should cover future expenses. And if they hadn’t moved, their mortgage would have been paid. But with the new house, Jon’s Manhattan pad, trips, crocked houses, secruity etc. I doubt they can afford to stop the show. But for the sake of the children, they should!
You think you would choose a 9-5 job over what she is doing in order to raise 8 kids with a deadbeat father who cares more about partying and women than his own kids? She has an opportunity to provide for these kids and be there for them at the same time. Anyone who says they wouldn’t do the same thing is full of it!
Are you kidding? Jon, Kate and their brood are set for life. From their sprawling homestead TLC paid for to Kate’s book deals, appearances, etc., I don’t think they’ll be surviving on Raemen noodles anytime soon. Oh, and don’t forget about the ridiculous product placements and freebies. Anytime they mention a company or product on the show, you know it’s free. Kate’s an attention whore whose only claim to fame is that she’s a breeder. I wish they’d all just go away.

It’s fake. Her PR people have been reading the online criticisms. I would also be very surprised if she’s not on medication now.
Jon, as dense as he is, was a decent father and FAR better husband than many people seem to realize. He could have been a wonderful man, husband, and father with a supportive, encouraging, kind wife.
Something calmed her down. Her persistent OCD behavior is gone. She is behaving in a more normal manner. By the way, this family ‘pays’ for very little. If they lived a life of financial sacrifice like most people, I could respect them more.
Oh, please. She has eight children and she has to support and encourage him as well? What about him providing support and encouragement to the mother of his children. Jerk.
kate’s income??? lets divide that by 10 there are 10 people WORKING on that show! jon, kate, alexis, collin, leah, mady, cara, hannah, joel and aaden. jon and kate are going to burn in hell for offending and exploiting and abusing their little children. kate is a liar, thief and a crying shame. i wish someone would walk up to her and ask her why she exploits her children for money. as the beatle song says: she’s got a ticket to ride, she’s got a ticket to ride, she’s got a ticket to ride and she don’t care!
I’d be interested to know how she manages to abuse her children with all the cameras around. Are they locked in cupboards or hit with things as so many other poor little children are? Honestly.

Looking forward to the new show. Jon makes me uncomfortable. So I hear he’s put the brakes on the divorce for 60 more days? Is that so he can be sure to get “his” share of Kate’s income?

I will reserve my comments, since Jon as always stated that he wanted off the show. I will wait to see if he issues a response to this. If he wishes them well, ok, I think he is finally going to get what he wanted all along. But if he is a punk about it (complains about himself and not the sake of the children), than that is the last time I will defend him.
I watch the show a few times, when I saw it he still worked a job, Kate was a little mean to him. So when I heard about the divorce, I kind of figured “about time” it wasn’t a shock to me. Honestly I think that if they had never did the show, they would still be happily married, I believe that the only reason he decided to man up is because other men show the show and ran their mouths about how their wives would never talk to them like that. He lost his pride.
Why people are surprised that he moved on? I rather he moved on, than stayed in a marriage and cheat on his wife, honestly I think Kate is getting a little “something, something” on the side too. No single woman with 2 children, let alone 8 care so much about how they look. Once she improved her look, I knew then. It’s one thing to get a new clothes, another to change your hair, but liposuction, you already got the man, who cares what your stomach looks like, go to the gym!

Are you serious? Man up? If he was a man, he would have pulled his weight and given more thought to his wife’s feelings instead of his own. Man up? Does it make him a man to walk out on his family because it got too hard? Does it make him a man to try to deprive his abandoned family of their source of income? Had it not been for the show, he’d have been gone a hell of a lot sooner – he just stuck around for the show and the money.
I hope Jon doesn’t continue to make money off the show or Kate, and I hope part of the deal was not to give Jon his own show. Please, no. Jon should starve on a sidewalk somewhere.

Given that Jon doesn’t seem to have any discernible talent outside of schtupping his way across mainland U.S.A. (Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and Guam soon to follow) I believe he’ll be making money off of Kate, the children and the show for a long time to come in the form of spousal support. He’s just a poor excuse for a man in every possible way.
I am so thrilled about this…I also stopped watching because I was sick of seeing Jon’s smug face! Good for Kate! She is doing what she has to do to provide for her children and I admire her for it!

This will be Kate Plus 8…except, you know, when she’s busy riding her 15 minutes of fame in the public eye.
No mom “has to” have a reality show to support but get real, how many moms would jump at the chance to earn a great income and provide a wonderful lifestyle for their kids all the while being with them? I would, I hate, hate, hate leaving my kids for 45-50 hours a week just to make enough to survive not much left over for trips to Disney, beach house, etc.
You know – if she was a man, noone would be criticizing her for trying to pursue a television career as a “working” father.
I find it very disturbing that so much sexist criticism seems to be coming from women. It is no wonder men take advantage – so many women seem to see themselves as second class citizens.

I think this is just another step away from his responsibilities. I suspect that not too far into the future, Kate will have full custody of the kids and he will be running off into the sunset. Good riddance. I feel sorry for the kids, but he just doesn’t seem to care about them.
Finally,someone have stepped forward and do the right thing also I hope they cut off any monies he his getting to party with all of those women.Jon is exploiting those kids. Having sex with the baby sitter while his kids was sleeping in the next room nothing can excuse such behavior.
