Kate Gosselin takes over: It's now just 'Kate Plus Eight': Bye, bye, Jon!

kate-solo-eight-2_l

Well, it’s finally happened. TLC has yanked Jon Gosselin from Jon & Kate Plus Eight — excuse me, “adapted to the changing Gosselin family,” as this morning’s press release says — and henceforth, we can watch the new, new, new Kate Plus Eight.

Relaunching in November, the series bows to what viewers have realized for months: That Jon just isn’t into filming his segments with his kids (boring fishing expeditions while he moans about missing his Manhattan apartment, etc.), while Kate is very much into keeping her brand — and brood — alive on TV screens.

TLC says in its statement that the new show will “recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family… and Kate as a newly single mother raising 5 year-old sextuplets and 8 year-old twins.” TLC, the fans and the tabloids were way ahead of you on that one.

TLC also says it is “in development on a Kate project for 2010.” This is presumably the talk show pilot that Kate was reported to be taping recently.

Will you watch Kate Plus Eight?

    • Meli

I really could care less. Never watched it, never will.

      • RK

        I couldn’t care less.

      • joe

i could care even lesser than you. i’ll never comment on a board about it! damn.

      • Kris

I like how so many people could care less but take the time to read the article about Jon and Kate and even comment on how they don’t care! There are even hipocrates on the comment section, lol. If you don’t care, don’t read!!!!

      • Maria

Same here, never watched it either and never will.

      • SLK

um, it’s “couldn’t care less”. If you COULD care less, you would. Please get it right people!!!

      • Erika

I couldn’t care less about all these comments saying they couldn’t care less…oh wait. Since I actually READ them and took the time to respond…apparently I COULD care less. Checkmate all you “I never watched the show cause I don’t care” commenters!

      • Jason

        hipocrates? really?

      • JG

        Hippocrates, as in hippocratic oath?

      • luv_it

        Omg haters stop being jelouse!!

    • Debbie

The show is just boring. You need to get rid of kate to.My family try to watch it but keep falling asleep. The show has become a joke since jon left.

      • queta

Please! The show is about the kids, how hard it is to deal with so many kids and not loose it. When the show started Jon wasn’t around much, he was working most of the time.I won’t miss him.

      • Jason

I really don’t get why people keep getting “lose” and “loose” confused? This seems to be a recent thing, but I see it all the time.

      • jb

Cuz they think a word with one o couldn’t make an oo sound: bamboo, kazoo, loose. It’s easier than thinking.

    • Ruth

I feel so sorry for the kids. Kate browbeat Jon. Now I can’t stand either one of them. I hope the kids grow up without major issues.

      • Miranda

Kate beat Jon down every chance she got; she’s a control freak and a clean freak and doesn’t want counseling. She must be in hog heaven with control of it all now and a talk show co-host gig a possibility. Jon’s like a college freshman running amuck away from home rules. That kind of behavior usually lasts until they flunk out and the parents regain control or they crash a car after a drunken party. Kate’s already in control so maybe being booted from the show is Jon’s car crash. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him file for spousal support. Then we’d get to see Kate run her mouth some more. They have both become very tiresome people.

    • anita

I think you are exploding the kids and someone should step in to represent the kids and stop it before it is too late. i feel for these kids & will keep them in my prayers.

      • queta

Put a sock,n dont bring god, those kids are fine nlook happy. You want to know what exploding or abuse is, become a social worker for Child services, they are needed.

      • doremifah solatido

        Hate it when kids explode.

      • SLK

Exploding kids WOULD make for good tv I guess. It’s “exploiting”. Thank you.

      • twitchytail

queta–I want to know what Child Services is doing for exploding kids.

      • Deb

are they exploding them one at a time or will it be done in one big boom?

    • carole

      if you had a stream of money being thrown at your feet – would you stop – the whole reason shows like this are on the air – $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $

      • Deb

Not for Jon anymore…the checks are no longer in the mail and his little chickies are going to disappear as fast as the money which is why he is trying to put off the divorce. He is an idiot and now I see him requesting alimony from Kate. The sad thing is; since she will have a source of income and he won’t he may get alimony.

    • Angela

While I truly don’t understand why anyone would want to watch the antics of this egotist who churned out an additional litter of kids, when she already had kids. The only thing that separates Kate from that Nadia freak is that Kate was lucky enough to be able to expoit the litter for her financial gain and stay off the public dole. So from that perspective, please keep watching, but I surely don’t understand why anyone would think an hour of whinning and screaming (and that’s from Kate) is entertainment.

      • Deb

Children are not “a litter” she may have had multiples but to call them litters make them seem like animals

    • hope

I know, you said it when will they get a clue?

    • terri

I will watch EVERY episode as long as they DUMP jon !!!!!!!!

    • BBStew

I have watched Jon and Kate from the beginning. I now know why Kate was so forceful. Jon couldn’t man up so she had to.Jon don’t you think its a little to late to act like a concerned father. You have stopped your childrens source of income so how much child support can you contribute to their care.Once again it will probably be up to Kate to man up and take care of the family. Get real!!

      • p

        My thoughts exactly

      • Karyn

Jon put Kate in the position of micro managing his life !!! Maybe if he acted more the part of a partner to her she would not have to play the role of the warrden! I hope she finds someone who is her equal.

  • JLC

Ick. What will Kate complain about now that Jon is not in the picture?

    • L

The P-People and those icky boys.

    • oc

she’ll complain about how hard it is to be a “single mom”

    • Jane

Who says she has to stop?

      • queta

I know for a fact that females just like to complain, to realease stress, we all do it, any one writing bad things here!!! you are doing it.

    • D

I agree!! What will she complain about..She put him down every show & when those kids watch they’ll know Mom isn’t the same person they see.One of those twins I think Mady is always crying & whining..Do you think they would have all that nice stuff if it wasn’t for the kids?? I would rather watch Jon cause he is keeping it real.He talks to the kids like a parent and says it like it is.Kate puts on a show.Glad Jon is having a much better life! She verbally abuses every chance she gets..She is so much DRAMA!!

      • maybe

Yeah, Jon has such a great life, no relationship with his kids, living in NY away from his kids, a different woman every week and lots of money, once Kate has to pay alimony…wait a minute, maybe he doesn’t have it so bad

      • Kaye

Oh u think playing with your kids and complaining about being there is being a good dad. He wanted to be back in NY. Even Cara was complaining about it. You must be a great parent. One of the little boys said the only time they have a good time is when Mommy’s there. I guess you need to talk to those kids and set them straight.

    • B

That’s just it.. maybe now it will be better for her,

  • KimR

I don’t watch now due to too much Kate so no, I will not be watching. She is so playing up to the viewers & cameras now. Never has she acted like this in all the seasons. I don’t think there should be any show at all, frankly. They are divorcing & the children do not need that to be happening on television. In it for her kids? Ha!

    • laini

You are so right about Kate just playing for the cameras. The show has become all about her & what a “great” mother she is (or at least thinks she is). She’s a drama queen.

    • Sara

Hit the nail on the head. Kate has completely changed and is no longer the relateable mom we once knew (organized, down-to-earth, and crazy sometimes like all of us). She does these stupid activities (forced) and waltzes around trying to be funny, but failing. Where’s the reality? Seriously this isn’t a sitcom, I don’t need your horrible acting. I actually DID enjoy her on the View, but couldn’t watch her host a show unless she steps away from the cameras she’s so addicted to.

      • Carol

You are right, Kate has changed. I find her to be more personable now. She is dealing with major changes in her life that she did not ask for (being a single parent sharing custody of her kids) and doing a great job I think. I will watch the show minus Jon for sure. Hated it when Jon was on there whining about Kate and how much he hated doing the show that paid for his Manhattan digs. What a loser he is.

      • Sara

I agree, Carol. Life has made her more introspective. Which it, hopefully, does for all of us.

      • CL

Totally agreed that Kate has changed big time…book signing, TV interviews, TV hosting, all while proclaiming she only wants to be a good mom to her kids. Go home to your multi-million dollar home Kate and stop playing victim. I did watch a few shows and she always treated Jon like cheap, stupid help.

      • Jami

Her acting is terrible! The phony activities are irritating. She’s acting like a weekend Dad–outdoor movies? I preferred the show when it was about the kids playing and goofing around, with Kate figuring out how to keep them all happy and healthy. When the cameras are off, she must spend time on the couch staring into the void, shouting to the kids to shut up. That’s real, but she’s too smart to show that. This contrived pretend idiocy is very irritating and may drive more viewers away than the divorce.

      • LESLIE

i wont watch the new kate plus 8= single mom poor mom . GIVE ME A BREAK– she has tons of money, babysitters, and when john comes she gets vacation time…. so what does she have in common with real single moms , nothing,,,,,,,

      • R-T

        Yes – Yes – Yes
Kate has changed. She is putting on a act as Caring Mother.
She is 100% a NAG. and controling person. Let us see Relatives and
other FAMILY in the her children’s REAL LIFE

    • valerie

You people complaining about Kate are obviously just like John.. Big crybabies.. John acted like a kid and someone had to be in control.. Kate has been a great mother! There is nothiing wrong with being organized and on schedule.

      • p

        Absolutely

      • Jillian Armit

        I totally agree!

    • rory

Perhaps she’s acting in a more positive way because the milestone around her neck (her childish, teeny-bopper (cheating?) husband is not longer an issue!

      • p

        Yes, definitely

  • Peggy

I actually watched this show once. I am not into reality T.V. I won’t be watching it no matter what, but I am glad Jon is gone.

  • Sharon

Yes, I’ll be watching. I’m so glad Jon will be gone!

    • mindy

I will be watching. It is good Jon is gone he has not been really a part of the family for some time.

  • Ben

How about “Bye, bye, child exploitation” and cancel this freaking show already!!??

    • rachel

Seriously! What happened to that inquiry that the state was going to do about child labor?! Kids shouldn’t be exposed to things like this!

      • erf

        Amen,sister!!!

      • p

You show me any child how is not videoed. The kids are not working. What’s with the molly codling of the kids? No wonder we are raising a generation of little wooses. They are just being videoed. Gee, what a trauma.

  • suzithecat

Yes, I like the kids, they are fun to watch and wish they were mine..lol

    • me

I wish they were yours too . . . even if you were actually a cat!!! You certainly couldn’t do any worse than these 2 rejects.

  • Mari

YEAH! Even with trying to overlook the tabloit stuff, it became hard to ignore Jon’s… shortcomings, character-wise.

  • Tati

Yes.. I will watch.. I stopped watching because of Jon..

  • jes

    I’m in.

  • AM

    Definitely. Jon’s douchebagginess was distracting.

  • Lesley

I have never watched one second of Jon & Kate, but boy do I know all about what’s going on. But why? Why do I have to hear all about them? Why are these losers getting so much press? Who the hell are they and what is their relevance to anything? And EW, you should be ashamed giving these tabloid trash idiots one ounce of print. I am disgusted with EW. It can only be because of the desire for more readers that you stoop to this level. Ugh. I’mma gonna be sick.

    • Pamela

Yet you just commented on an article about Jon & Kate. Maybe you should start reading articles you are interested in. So the rest of us don’t need to listen to your stupid rant.

      • dusen

I think her point was that try as one might, it is pretty much impossible to follow entertainment news without being exposed to the train-wreck that is Jon and Kate. I too have never seen an episode but nonetheless know wayyy too much about them. I feel all dirty inside.

      • Shel

I get what both dusen and Lesley are trying to say here, however the bottom line is that NO ONE forced you to come find this article, read it and comment on it. Sure, if you are watching an entertainment news show in real time, you are stuck hearing about this story. But reading? Seriously? You put yourself there, stop complaining about it.

      • dusen

Well if it’s any consolation I didn’t read the article, other than the headline. That’s all I can take.

    • Alan

It’s on EW’s job to choose what constitutes the “entertainment” part of EW. If it’s a TV show, then it’s entertainment and it’s EW’s job to report it. Maybe you should be reading the Wall Street Journal instead.

      • Alan

I mean, NOT EW’s job. typo.

    • I’msosuperior-Lesley

I don’t watch trash, I merely comment on it. I spend my days reading about trash TV, because I never watch it. I believe you should comment about things you know nothing about. Even in my ignorance, my comments are helpful to this conversation. Especially for morons who’ve watched the show from the beginning and actually have something ‘intelligent’ to say about it. Yes, I’m better than all of you. So much better that I’m taking this time to add my insight into your dim little lives.

      • Karen

Well, I honestly agreed with you on ‘Why is this even on TV? What a waste of time.’ But there is no reason to behave like a d-bag when people were poking fun of your answers. One thing about putting your comment out there is to expect all levels of criticism, and reply in a classy manner, and not so immaturely. You’re not better then anybody, and the fact that you say things like that as a grown person makes you look foolish.

  • lisa

Yes! The kids are as adorable and funny as ever and its heart warming watching Kate do activities with them and watch them growing up and changing. Thank goodness Jon is off the show! He was such a drag on it all along! I hope Kate lets the dogs come back home. Its fun to watch the dogs prancing around the kids when they are playing. She has a housekeeping crew…just let them take over the poop duty and tell Cara & Maddy that thier chore is to feed the dogs once a day and make sure the dogs have water. Kate wont have to do any dog care. They have 20+ acres for the dogs to run and play. The dogs do add to the family!! Yes, I’ll be watching the show in the future!

    • bill

I thought the shepards got returned to the breeder.

    • James

Um, ok. Sorry, but to me it sounds like Lisa needs to find a family of her own.

    • ABadViewofKate

The dogs were returned to the breeder over a month ago because Kate wouldn’t bother to take care of them [when Jon wasn't there] and they were crated all the time.

As nice as their 20 acres are they dogs rarely were able to enjoy it.

    • Chris

I don’t understand why Ken continues to promote this show. They get the puppies just for the purpose of an episode, then get rid of them when they don’t serve a purpose anymore and become inconvenient. What a great thing to teach the kids.

  • STUART

Man just cancel the show already…all this show is doing is exploiting the kids and I don’t think that any show with these people will be a big ratings draw.

  • Gina

I’m “in it for the kids” as well. I don’t care which parent is on as long as I get to see the hysterical antics of the kids. Jon can take Mady too for all I care, Cara’s a sweetheart.

    • Lynne

      PLEASE…Mady is a mini-Kate!
